Does anyone remember the fishing store on 9th Avenue S.E. that had a huge fire and the place burnt down? I seem to remember that as being the original Wholesale Sports or am i mistaking it for another store? I know I am dating myself, but i think that was in the 80's? Anyone remember?

New Fishing unit for the Bow!

While i was there, i was talking to a guy that wanted to move the blocks and open er up! I suggested that was not a good idea and that i would suggest waiting until the gates are opened up by the proper authorities. Crazy hey!

Thought i would stop by and see what MacKinnons looked like, but was surprised to see tha tthe gate is still closed. Couple of trucks parked at the gate, but no access unless you walk down. Just a heads up! Sign says open April 15th, but not yet!

Thats a nasty drop off those concrete blocks Paul. Also if the water is high, it is difficult to load or unload your boat. For me, I would back down and then do a 90 degree turn towards the dam and unload there. Wasn't the best way but it was less hard on the side of the boat. See you on the water! Ralph

So this year I am planning on using my boat on different lakes / rivers in BC, and Alberta. I want to do things right, and do not wish to be the carrier of any invasive species. Is the correct way to clean your boat is to run it through the local car wash and spray clean inside and out with soap and rinse? As well as that, what is the best way to clean your gear? Not wishing to ask a stupid question, but if it is, sorry, and please help to answer. I have always used my boat in the Bow specifically, but this year want to explore. but at the same time, do it right. Thanks,

Been reading a lot of the Bow river reports and there seems to be a huge discussion on redds (not stepping on them), and browns (big ones). As i have not the education or the comprehensive knowledge in this regard, i think it would be helpful to those new fisher people as to what they should be looking for, why, where, when, and how. I don't think simply dont step on them gives new people a very good understanding on why this is so important. If this has been explained in the past, please disregard, but i haven't seen anything that gives a full explanantion or full understanding on redds? Thanks folks,

Interesting Paul. Thanks for posting. Seems to me that the didymo has been around longer than i have. I am more worried about the water fluculations with the Bow. It is becoming more like a bathtub than a river. One day it is so low you can`t launch and the next it is high and dirty. I am concerned that the river is changing so much in flow patterns that the aquatic life must be affected. Sorry to get off topic, just my 2 cents worth. Cheers Ralph

I hardly ever go above MacKinnon's with my Jon/Jet. Too many people, boats and angry people mad at the jet fishermen. But to be honest, when I put in at Johnsons, I seldom see any other fisher people unless they are running a jet themselves. In early and out before the floaters come down. Works for me. Having said that, I am always looking out for other people when boating, I try to follow the rules, try not to piss anyone off if I have to go by them, but also to be there if anyone is in need (such as a medical emergency, boater problems, etc. I am sure most jet boater guys would do the same. I always carry a first aid kit, water, aspirin, sunscreen,cell phone, and emergency tool kit, just in case someone were to need it. Let's look out for each other, be respectful of other persons on the water and try to enjoy this thing called fishing, (which most of use our jets to do) without all the BS about jets versus drift. My 2 cents worth. Have a great day!

Sorry to hear of your early retirement Rickr, in the same boat myself. But hey! Congratulations!!!! Not sure if I will go back to work in the future, but right now, I am soooo looking forward to having so much time on my hands to do what I want! Looking forward to fishing the river upside down and sideways thus year! A few well planned trips down south are in the cards, as is a trip out to Whitetail and Parsons area for some early season action. Trouble for me is waiting to leave! I have to wait until May 31 to get let out and i am itching at the bit to get going! For me, I am going to thank the oil and gas industry for many years of employment, and get on with my life as a retired old fart! Last year i ended up very sick and was in the hospital in critical condition for a couple weeks. I have since recovered fully, but now realize that life is short, and we need to be thankful for our blessings. Going , i am committed to living life to the fullest, Hopefully, the fishing will be good, but hey if not, its better than working right! Cheers Rickr and congrats! Ralph
