Traditional winged wet, old fav. to me it's not vintage, just a fly I've tied and fished since I was a kid. @ BBT, SD When you're using the Royal Coachman are you using a Royal Wulff, or the traditional pattern? Cool either way, I think I will fish one of those next year somewhere. It is kind of like taking a vintage car out for a spin.....on the level of a Jaguer E-Type or 289 Mustang Fast Back.

I've heard a lot of good things about both the rods you mentioned. Will definitely love to try them out, the show is always a high point of the year. This area of the sport is ever changing and it's wonderful to see as it evolves with various companies and new cutting edge products. There was a time when only a few of us used a double handler for trout (shocking). Now there are groups all over in very non typical venues chasing species not normally associated with the style. Not that I don't use single handlers because I do along with bamboo. But back to MykIsss's question If I was you I've do the show and try before you buy, a great place to compare.

With all due respect and humbly, but wasn't it R.B. Meiser that originated the "Switch Rod" concept 30 years ago? Or am I wrong, just curious about the history.

Wow the hammock looks really cool along with the packs. We've sure com a long was from a wool blanket and a plastic drop cloth.

Hard to answer that one as it will vary from fly to fly depending on silhouette and what you are trying to imitate. They are both valid methods and I carry both styles, whereas one will work in certain situations and the other will not. A good way to see it for yourself is put them both in a clear glass of water and look at them from a trout perspective. you will notice that the standard hackle pushes more of the fly onto to the surface film and the parachute lets the body sit deeper and flatter on the water or sometimes under the film. The Klinkhammer style pushes the entire body of the fly under the film (thus tied with no tail). If you study at what your flies on the film of water at home it can be easier to "match the hatch" when you see an insect profile on the water. hope this helps...

The one one I use is: 1 part melted lard then mix in 1 part chunky or smooth peanut butter 6 parts cornmeal Then, pour your warm suet 'soup' into the mold, I use the bottom of an old milk container. Lots of different ways of making it, you can add sunflower seeds nuts etc. You can also just buy the cakes. I put mine in the feeder adn alos smear it on some large pinecones.

Stocked up my small bird feeder table on Saturday to give the little guys a hand. It was appreciated by the many Chickadees visiting. had a small group of Bohemian Waxwings on Sunday passing through that had fun with the sunflower seeds, peanut butter and suet that I put out. The small feeder with roof was a good idea because of the number of Magpies I seem to have gained around my neighborhood. If you have a mind to the little guys could use a hand during the really cold weather.
