Looks like the Government. may be backing off on Bans but I hope they will now focus on habitat destruction. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/alberta-trout-fishing-recovery-plan-1.4546810 -
A few new Caddis designs in #14. Foam Body for a bit more flotation and no Hackle. Call em Doc's Yellow Caddis, Doc's Tan Caddis & Doc's Sparkle Caddis. Should be interesting to try these patterns out this year and see if the Trout like em. .

Moose Body hair is really nice because its tough and seems to stand up for me through a few trout. Short deer hair is also a good option, but I usually look for short hair from the neck which dosn't flair as much. I was also contemplating using flex or rubber legs.

I carry both Parachute and Traditional. They will both work at different times and conditions.

You flies look great jgig0e. I was lucky to have quite a number of mentors over the years including parents that tied and quite a few commercial guys that I have been blessed to know. Every time I sit down at the vice I learn or remember something. I'm far from perfect. Some of the most fantastic tiers I've known didn't strive for perfection but enjoyment. When I run lessons I push proportions and the less as more rule.

I often go back to swinging Wet Flies in the old timy manner when the condition are right. It can be a great way to imitate stages of a hatch of Mayflies, Caddis or small baitfish . Originally tied by a Yellowstone National Park guide Frank Beals, who supposedly would shake with anticipation on the morning of a fishing trip. Used to imitate the Isonychia (Slate Drake) or October Caddis.

Pm me and I'll get them posted. I'm using imgur.as a host for my photos.

Eastern Slopes ES1 Regulation Survey..

Another thing that burns me up is in the last couple of years I've been seeing Hero's fishing for Bulls with gear (spoons and plugs) in small streams. Word is getting around there are large Bulls out there but a face full of trebles can't be great for any Trout. Perhaps its time for Fly Fishing only areas. -

With all respect my rambling ranting point is (I am no scientist but just an old guy with eyes) there are more than one reason for lower Cuttroat numbers. Habitat destruction, deforesting, evasive species introduction to name a few. No one has mentioned predation. I often sit and watch pools and have watched large bulls pick off smaller Cutties easily with lower levels. With our low water levels in the last few years it concentrates the Trout. I would think it logical from what I've seen that there is less water volume to protect smaller Trout from their larger predators. I certainly have other thoughts but I'm just a crazy old bugger not an expert. -
