Thanks for taking the time guys. Ill definitely get a good PFD, the flippers, an anchor and the oar locks. For the PFD I was thinking on a CO2 inflatable. Never used one, and not sure if they are reliable. Anyone use one? Here is the one I'm looking at: Inflatable jacket

Hey guys, Just picked up a PAC 900 FS today (still in the box) and was wondering if any of you guys have any recommendations or advice on setting it up, and/or modifications or add-ons you would recommend. It's the marketing genius of the NHL. I for one would like to see some of the management of the NHL get beat with a pillowcase full of wrenches.

I certainly save money on the flies I use that I tie however I tie so many, and so many variations that I have 1000 times more flies than I need so I wouldn't say I'm saving money overall

And now for the downside. Was at a lake in the spring catching many 2-5 pound rainbows on Chonies I tied the day before. A lady fly fisher showed up amongst the bait fishermen (who were not catching) and started casting from shore about 100 feet from where I was floating. She started to make comments about leaving some fish for everyone else to catch (jokingly). I had a chuckle and said try Chronies, black, around size 16 and offered her a couple. She said "thanks but I should have something like that in my box". After around 30 more minutes of slamming fish she still had not caught one and spoke up again saying "Ill take one of those flies now!". I moved to shore and gave her 3 and said I'm getting them at 18 feet 6 inches from the bottom and its 15 feet deep where your casting (I had measured) and suggested getting down to the bottom. As soon as she rigged up and the fly sank boom fish on. I was like right on there ya go and felt good until she got it to shore. Bonk! I was like oh crap. She started catching fish every couple of minutes and bonked the first 5 that I saw. I have no problem with people keeping a fish once in a while but I felt directly responsible for these 5.

Did this same float early summer. Took us 12 hours but we stopped at lots of runs. My favorite drift thus far.

Well said Rick. To be honest I have stepped over a few bums on my lunch time walks. I usually look for movement and signs of an accident or foul play (blood and such) but usually find an empty vodka bottle.

I completely agree with SundanceFisher. I think it's a joke that there is nothing in place whatsoever to ensure those licensed to fish understand anything about species, rules and regs, catch a release tactics. Just one more embarrassing flaw in Alberta's fisheries management.

I personally witnessed a teenage kid catch a 32" brown (taped) below Mckinnon flats about 4 years ago on a spinner. Unfortunately it floated down the river belly up since they held in in a net for 10 minutes while one of them hiked to a truck on private property to get a camera. they tried to revive it for about another 10 minutes but I'm guessing it didn't survive.
