  1. Well, I just went down to Fishtales and test drove a few rods. I tried a Sage Z-axis, a Scott S3 and a G Loomis Streamdance GLX (4wt 8'6) and liked the G Loomis the best. Now to do a little research on the net and see what other people think. Any thoughts? I looked at a Ross CLA 1.5 reel as well.
  2. I was doing some research on the many suggestions and found this review on the Sage 2500 series reels. This guy's a genius!! Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 sage reel, October 30, 2007 By cowboybryan from central california "i never tried the reel so cant speek much about it other than i thought it looked like it was built cheap!! i sent it back without trying it." Glad Cabela's printed it
  3. It's nice to get replies from friends (Russ) and acquaintances (BBB). I knew I could count on you. I was looking at that rod, but, I wasn't sure about the reel. Any comments on the Winston Boron? FYI Russ....Still haven't fished the Bow...I here there are fish there!
  4. I have been putting money away since September and in the spring I want to buy a higher end rod and reel for around $1000. I do most of my fishing on the Upper Oldman, Gap area as well as the Crow and Upper Elk. I do mostly dry fly but I am venturing in to some nymphing as well. I need something that can throw out a fly in the wind as it can get a "bit" breezy in these areas. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance BBB... I'm counting on you!
  5. When you get in to a single malt scotch they all have their own personal flavours. Crotchs..sorry Scotchs vary soo much. Perhaps I can organize a scotch tasting at the R&C for a weekday out for the gang?
  6. My fishing buddy's girlfriend has asked me for advice on a fishing vest which she wants to buy him for his upcoming birthday. I personally have a Columbia Henrys Fork which has been great. Can anyone give me some other suggestions. What do you use? He currently doesn't have a lot of gear but we all know how fast that can accrue! Thanks
  7. PS...in cold weather the lens might condensate on the outside if you have had it underwater...getting the drops of water off the pictures is another issue...I bring along a clean lens cloth at all times Next time you are in Mountain Equipment Co-op go to the sunglass rack and grab a couple of lens cloth eyeglass bags. Your camera will fit in it and they are free!! Buy something else so you don't look so obvious!!
  8. What timing..I put a post on the Habs website last week re: Nicknames. There was a clip last week on TSN re the Canada Jr teams nicknames which stated that most of the players in hockey's nicknames were half of their name and add a"Y". So I asked what is former Hab and now Blue Jacket Ron Hainsey's nickname? Hainser? I found out that it was Hollywood and they closed the thread. Those moderators are A**#oles!
  9. Must be a different Al...That's when I get started!!
  10. I remember seeing the "Women in Waders" calendar in a mag and decided that it would be a good gift for a friend so I went to the website and checked it out. As I went through the site I saw "XL Black Women in Waders" and I clicked on it for a while until I discovered it was the order form for T-shirts!
  11. All the fly fishing babes fish Frenchman's Creek. You will see them all there!! That's where they took the pics for the "Babes in Waders" calendar.
  12. I bought a Streamlight Large Arbor Reel from them and it ended up in the garbage (on purpose) http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/se...;feat=1111-sub2 I'm sure most of their stuff is good. The reel was my only bad purchase from them.
  13. In the last few years I have travelled to Mexico and stayed in all inclusives in Cabo san Lucas and Puerta Vallarta. I have also travelled to Punta Cana DR. I was never concerned for my well being in any of those places. I am sure if I had of gotten off the beaten track, things may have been a bit more threatening but I didn't. I also travelled to Costa Rica and I was a bit more concerned as the area I was staying (Puerto Viejo on the SE coast) was known for crack and crime. Our "Eco-Inn' was just out of town and the 1K walk on the unlit road was a bit nerve wracking as I had heard a few horror stories of muggers jumping out of the roadside bushes. Punta Cana is an 18 mile long beach covered with resorts. The security there is unbelievable. No unauthorized people (hawkers as well) were allowed. The closest town is Bavaro and there is nothing really there to please any tourists so you usually (always) stay at the resort which in our case, had ample bars and restaurants and access to two other resorts bars and restaurants as well.(RIU resorts) A great destination for soaking up sun and Pina Colada's. Not much for other activities. I am heading to MX next month...not sure where..I'll let you all know how it goes.
  14. I was more concerned "travelling" in Costa Rica than "vacationing" in PV, Cabo etc. I live in the Beltline and I am more concerned here!
  15. Are you "travelling" or "vacationing"? Are you travelling around the country or staying at an all inclusive in a resort town?
  16. It's probably safer than Calgary. (My neighbourhood anyway). Just use your head.
  17. Is it the same Font size as your message?
  18. A friend of mine showed me his latest tattoo.....A cutthroat trout that covers his whole inner upper arm. Pretty cool. Anybody have any fly fishing related tattoos?
  19. I am going somewhere in January. Probably west coast MX only because of the shorter flights. I've been to Cabo and it is just like San Diego just with fewer Mexicans . I have been to PV twice but 25 years apart. Quite a difference. Nuevo Vallarta was jungle the first time I was there. My boss lives in Huatulco in the winters and loves it. I am waiting til the last minute. I hope it works out!
  20. I'm missing fishin' and campin". I think i"ll go to Mexico!...Hang on.... I am going to Mexico!
  21. That's a sweet ring! Was it made in Calgary by Intergold?
  22. The Flames had a team before 2004! I know...I checked!
