so woke up this morning to find my blazer has disappeared. beginning to love calgary. right before my reading week and had a trip planned that involved myself driving so guess that will be a no go..... birchy, how long did it take to find yours? oh word to the wise...take out your bike, fishing gear and everything else....~$3k of *hit left in my vehicle...

ive used one a bunch of times out on a lake at bc. wasnt bad minus having to put your rod down to paddle to get back into the spot you want to be. suppose you could rig up a anchor, but i didn't. casting in that position with your knees up in your chest area wasn't all that pleasant, and i had troubles casting, mind you i was still learning on how to cast so maybe that had something to do with it...opted to stand on the back of a sea-doo with my waders and no life jacket casting rocking back and forth...looking back...not the smartest of ideas in 40ft of water and no one around....
-
keep me posted on that..

Birchy..will definitely take you up on that offer. Ive been looking for a job but haven't found anything yet. Do you know if they are hiring at the moment? Will start being a grown up in Septemberish..

nice, is it a rotary vice? whered you get it from. im in the market for a vise but havent decided to fork over the money yet.

theres a few places that produce. IMO it fishes unlike the lower bow...more like the crow i'd say. I tend to catch more whites than anywhere else. hard to fish on a hot day as the rafters are in plenty. nice to get out if you have only limited time (if you live in the NW), but if i have the time i always head south... don't want to give out exact spots..

THanks guys. I will go back and trim them flat like you said Don.

that sage is garbage and orvis is the only way to go -
was going to try that on this fly...but decided not to. seems like a lot of work for a fly i will lose in the amount of time it takes for the epoxy to set....may give it a try just to see and go from there. thanks for the tip!

"Refined by Barr in 1996, this fly emerged in 2001 as the number-one seller in the Umpqua catalog, the successor to the Hare's Ear and Prince as the first nymph anglers pull out of the box." - flyfisherman.com This was the 1st fly that I tied just over a year ago. Being so it was the 1st fly tied by myself to catch a fish. During the summer months you would be hard pressed to not find one of these on my rigs in a wide array of colors. It is my go to fly and always produces for me. The fly of the year for myself was a size 16 red copper john. Hook: Mustad 12-18 Thread: Black 8/0 Tails: Brown Biots Body: Copper Wire Wing Case: Black stretch flex + flashabou Thorax: Peacock Ice Dub Wings: Partridge

After several versions finally got one that i'm happy with and would fish with rather than just fit in my box....
-
nice tie...thought you said that you throw dumbells or some sort of eyes on anything big...either way looks sweet...that fly wooven with too ribs would be killer. but i cant do any of that S*#%.
-
maybe the reason why he's still around...invested so much time and energy into developing him they don't want to trade him. they won't get much for him if they do i'd imagine....but you gotta cut ur losses somewhere...
-
hmmmm mcelhinney goes in and plays awesome....
-
true, but from the get go keenen didn't approach it right i think, and should have given him some play time. it is a little late for curtis to step in now, but he could have earlier in the season. will be interesting to see what they end up doing. 3 guality goalies at quad cities....someones gotta go.
-
ridiculous move if you ask me, they've got 4 good young goalies in their system already. good move for player development...... never even gave McElhinney a shot. one game????? you gotta be kidding me. cant expect a guy to be able to step in and play well if you don't even let him play. they shot themselves in the foot from the beginning for not letting the backup develop and get some experience, kipper has played like garbage.

tried to find the time the gates open at fish creek....left my fly box by the river and want to be there 1st thing in the morning. Does anyone know when it opens? thanks EDIT: nevermind...little slow at the moment http://tprc.alberta.ca/parks/fishcreek/servfac.asp

I know the only knot I ever use is the improved clinch and sometimes the palomer knot... Stumbled across this and thought he has some valid points on how nymphs will drift when dead drifting with an indicator...not sure how it would work if you tie double/triple rigs from hook shank to eyelet...would prolly have to got eyelet to eyelet... http://flyfishing.hook.tv/Clip.aspx?key=E6EE1687DBB9F2D0 What type of knots do all of you use? And is it worthwhile to consider other knots??

here's my golden version...need to pick up a brown marker to color it yet...
-
thanks everyone. kudos to SJW for the pattern. http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?showtopic=2506 (Just used black nymph skin vs. the color he used in the tutorial...)

didn't have any barbell eyes, so i just ended up making some out of 20lb mono...but I think it turned out okay, not as good as SJW tho thats for sure...
