    Cdc Question

Sorry, the snapping occurs at the stem. I tie it in at the tip and get halfway to the eye and she snaps. I will take a look at that tool, thanks for the input everyone.
  4. I have a bunch of CDC that I've tried using for tying the EHC. When i try to palmer it the stems keep breaking on me. Is there a way to easily soften them or is there another effective way to add the CDC without palmering it? Thanks.
  5. seems to make sense...better than the creator of the universe theory, lmao
  6. This is prolly a dumb question.....but here goes... Why is it that when salmon head up rivers to spawn they die, whereas steelhead don't (maybe they do, I really have no idea)? Been contemplating this while trying to learn accting...shows how productive that is going. please shed some light for me so i can study!!!
  7. thanks guys, ill give em a go and see how i make out.
  8. Looking for a free slideshow software program. Anyone have a recommendation? I want to make a video of all my pics from this summer... thanks
  9. 70% of the time I am roll casting. My sections do come apart, but do check them frequently. But that quite possibly be it as well. I have taped them up the odd time, but thats a pain in the @ss, and wasn't sure if it would hamper the rod performance. guess if it will save my rod its worth it. Casting tripple nypmh rigs or streamers. Using SA GPX 6wt line.
  10. Thanks for the input guys. I have broken the top ferrel twice and the middle one once. two have occurred while casting. So I think you may be right that I am over stressing my rod. Guess I should slow down my casts and let my rod do more of the work instead of trying to power right through it all the time. With getting them replaced a couple times, I have come about to have two rods, except they both are broken, so I did have a back-up 6wt. Maybe its for the best anyways...can't fish...leaves me nothing to do but school work that I have been putting off....
  11. So I've broken three rods this year. And these rods aren't cheap. Using a Orvis 9' 6wt, 4 piece, TLS Power Matrix. I don't think that I am overly rough on my rods. The warranty is great with orvis, minus having to wait 6 weeks to get them back, but each time they have sent me a whole new rod. Should I up the weight of the rod, to say a 7wt? Will this help with me breaking them? I am cautious doing this as I don't want to loose the ability to present dry flies without scaring every fish I target. The have been breaking at the ferrels. Any insight or suggestions would be great. Thanks.
  12. The ones I use and have tied which you are referring to only have the one trailing hook, and no front hook. most fish i think attack the fish from behind anyways eliminating the need for a front hook..(could be wrong).
  13. Thanks everyone! Tied these up, with your help. What do you guys think? First time using bunny strips as well, so i just went for it. Guess you can tell what I"m headed after this weekend...
  14. Perfect. Thanks. Wasn't sure if there was a special knot or anything. guess not. mitch
  15. Great thanks! I have the loop thing understood for the trailer hook. Next though, how do you tie the loose end of the fireline onto another hook? thanks again.
  16. I have bought all the materials, and have searched around the internet for resources on how to go about doing it but have come up empty handed... If anyone can point in the right direction or post how to do it that would be greatly appreciated. Two Questions of concern: 1) I have some large hooks with large eye holes to be able to put fireline through and will just cut the hook to leave the hook shank. What knot is suitable for that part? 2) how do I properly attach the fireline to the trailing hook? I am pretty clueless, so anything will help!! Thanks! Mitch
  17. no figured in case i didnt like it and want to sell it. choose the option for free backing. just arrived at my bros place in the states, and no backing (but he had no idea what backing was). Have you decided what your getting birchy? may have my old orvis for sale if your interested.
  18. the gold or black one? i ordered the gold one...hopefully its as pretty as you say!
  19. Your 4x will be just fine. I wouldn't bother spending the extra money IMO.
  20. Just bought a orvis large arbour battenkill off their website. they have a sale on right now. got it for 130 w/ free backing.
  21. Hell of a lot better than I did my first year...i was sure good at not catching fish...zero was my total for the year. but that was enough to get me back...
  22. Thanks Don & Flytyer. Its a great vice. Ive tried a friends rotary but couldnt tie on it for the life of me.
