  1. Florida Keys? Hawaii? Bahamas? Flights to Houston are super cheap right now. Maybe you can find a deal out of there. And flights to Key West seem to be good right now but that would be a TO flight. Look at YYC to Houston, Houston to Key West. Might cost a bit more but you might save on a hotel in TO. I was thinking of hitting Kauai again but on my own. The bones are big and don't swim in schools but if you know what you are doing you might do okay and there are a couple local guides around. Also they have trout and bass on the island. It would be more of a hang and chill trip with some fishing added in. Flights are not overly bad and using AirBnB you can find some decent lodging. Also car rentals are cheap if you use www.discounthawaiicarrentals.com Good luck
  2. RIP Ron. Ron worked hard on this site and was an all around good guy. He will be missed. Thoughts are with his family. Chris
  3. He had a trip up for bid on a local Cochrane facebook page. One lady out bid me for a full day guided walk n wade. She got it for $150.00 Shoreline then contacted me asking if I wanted the trip since I was the second highest bidder. I thought maybe the winner back out so I said sure I'll take it, but then I thought I should ask why I was offered and he said it was because she never contacted him or paid. So out of curiosity I sent her a message and she replied saying she had met with him on Tuesday (two days earlier) and paid him. So if I go by his social media presence I would say the dude looks like he loves to fish and fishes his faceoff. But if I go by his business practices I would say something is not 100% right. I hope I'm wrong and your Son has an awesome day.
  4. I would like to see some wraps that pop. A nice royal blue or a burnt orange. Maybe a little more bling on the reel seat.
  5. In the Fall/winter I rock the Simms Exstream jacket and a Simms Guide jacket overtop. Also a good base layer like Patagonia can go a long way to keeping you warm. In the summer its just a light weight Northface rain jacket.
  6. Courtney Ogilvie is a FFC forum member and I think he was/is??? a sponsor. Maybe he can chime in at some point.
  7. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.pinchercreekvoice.com/2015/09/backhoe-in-oldman-river-causes-concern.html
  8. There must be some bylaw or Alberta Traffic act reg against this kind of activity.
  9. Awesome I can help point you in the right direction for the Taupo area. I was there in May and did quite well and explored a few great rivers and streams. I'll send you a PM tomorrow with some details. What time of year are you going?
  10. Sorry can't help ya with the Google but what Island are you planning on hitting?
  11. Yes Sir. The last time I broke that rod it cost me $55.00 I used Fishtales both times to send it in.
  12. What was the total cost to have it repaired with shipping? I have two Winstons and might replace my Sage 7wt after my $104.00 repair bill.
  13. All four of you are welcome here. All joking aside I hope all is well with Doc. Maybe he just pulled the plug due to low traffic and the cost of running a board.
  14. Maybe I needed to add a few more smile faces.
  15. Close everything until Sept. Then compensate all the registered Guides.
  16. Word is they love the term "Shade Balls" so this might be rolled out to assist with the water temps. http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/08/11/431670483/la-rolls-out-water-saving-shade-balls
  17. They should have closed all the Southern rivers. The pressure the remaining opened rivers will get will be crazy and do more harm then good. And think of all the lost trips the guides are going to have. Can they apply for assistance? Might be a good time to look into forming an association.
