  1. I've had two Olympus tough cameras, they are great. Waterproof and small childproof.
  2. How is this launch? It is safe to use? I'm considering doing a float from Fish Creek to Policeman's with my family this weekend. It seems as though the water level has gone down significantly since the beginning of June. Thanks for the help.
  3. Sparkplug I don't think anyone is under the impression we can produce cheaper oil than the ME. Isn't the point to sell more crude? The profit margins are what they are but may as well increase the volume to increase the revenue.
  4. Thanks for the pointers. Hopefully this next trip is more successful than the last!
  5. My wife and I just found out the hard way what it's like to camp with a 6 month old! Next time we're going to rent a camper trailer to make it easier. Do you have any suggestions on provincial (or national) campgrounds within 3 hours of Calgary? My wife really wants to go somewhere that would allow for swimming. I wouldn't mind taking cast or two if time permits. We are looking at Dinosaur Provincial Park, I was also looking at Dutch Creek. Any other places we should look at? Thanks!
  6. http://www.mcmaster.com/#hdpe/=12hxxzg I order from these guys a lot. Generally very fast delivery.
  7. This project is nearly complete, just pending a final city inspection. After inspection the roof will be insulated and dry walled and railings for the roof top deck will go up. I went with a general contractor because I'm not experienced in home building (I'm a manufacturing guy). The garage is also submerged on a sloped lot, so concrete walls as high as 8 ft were required, way beyond what I am comfortable taking responsibility for. For the roof, we did wood trusses with the roof spaced slightly off them (2x4's going the opposite direction on top of the trusses and plywood on top of that). I put in several vents to ensure that any moisture can evaporate easily.
  8. I have General Grabbers A/T2's (stud-able) on my Canyon that I leave on year round and they are great in the snow and decent on ice. I got them 25% off at CT. Our Subaru has Blizzaks in the winter and they are great.
  9. tl - Is the idea that you totally seal off the roof/trusses from moisture with closed cell spray foam? I'm pretty sure the first guy I spoke to about this suggested the same. What about steel trusses?
  10. Tungsten - A more lengthy scan of the bylaws shows that they are but you need to apply for a Development Permit, see the first paragraph. Also, most of my current neighbors have a deck on their garage. http://www.calgary.ca/PDA/pd/Documents/brochures/detached_residential_garage.pdf 126 - I'll need retaining walls close to 8ft tall for this project.
  11. Hmm maybe, I'll need a structural engineer apparently for the wall/foundation and roof. The city permitting might be an issue which makes me want to go with a general contractor, is that a mistake? I expect this project will cost around $40k.
  12. Hi guys. Does anyone have suggestions or recommendations on who to contact to build a garage with a flat roof / deck? A retaining wall will need to be built as the property has a slope. Thanks sraak
  13. Maybe a big bicycle U-Lock through the trailer wheel? I've seen it before and it would act like a boot. I'd keep the oars inside if you can.
  14. Don - I have a stainless frame on my Bucks Pontoon, after three seasons it looks good. It is a two person pontoon though so the frame has quite a few cross members. I wonder if it's a fatigue issue in addition to corrosion, my understanding is that stainless generally has a better fatigue characteristics than carbon steel.
  15. Have you had issues with stainless steel?
  16. I have the orvis guide sling pack too, it is great.
  17. I have had two foresters ('04 XT and a '12). If you don't necessarily need a brand new car I would recommend buying a year old model if possible from a person (vs. a dealership). I bought used and saved thousands plus the car came with a three year transferable warranty. My wife drives it now and loves it.
  18. I generally prefer Jenson USA over chain reaction, shipping times are typically 1-2 days to Calgary. They will price match Chain Reaction too. I completely agree with Roast. Also, rear suspension design and bike geometry in general has come a long, long way since 2008. I find that used bikes in the Calgary can (but not always) be wildly overpriced, the less the seller knows about bikes the more overpriced the bike. If you find something you like, take a look at what they are selling for in other regions in Canada and the US. One thing to consider is the intended use, if it's generally tame trails you should consider a hardtail (HT, front suspension only). They are less expensive, easier to maintain and easier to set up. I bought a HT with 29" wheels for my wife and she loves it, new it cost $700 or $800 and have since upgraded the fork and brakes once she got more into the sport. I ride a HT for everything around here as well except for full-on DH trails where I'll use my full suspension DH bike.
  19. All the info just says spring 2014. Isn't there supposed a park in Calgary as well? I'm pretty sure I donated a few dollars to it at the MMBTS general meeting last year. Combining mountain biking and fly fishing is amazing, I did the ride from Sunwapta falls to Fortress Lake (BC) and it was great.
  20. Gotcha, that seems like sound advice. At least then I'll have a base line for comparison. Is starting with Scandi vs. Skagit really that much harder? Should I consider just going straight to a Scandi or a shorter scandi line? I think I have a pretty good grasp of the basic concept of spey style casting, as in I understand the mechanics of it. nk
  21. Thanks for the replies, hopefully I can go to fish tales this weekend.
  22. Hey I received a 5/6 wt 12'6" spey rod for Christmas from my wonderful fiance which I plan on using on the Bow with big flies (mainly wet) but I still need to get line(s) and a reel. I've read many articles, posts and watched plenty of videos but I'm still a little confused/overwhelmed. Can someone recommend me a store to go to that stocks what I need with staff that can educate me/sell me stuff? I've seen Fish Tales mentioned a few times while searching this site, are they my best bet? Bonus Question: I've been told to go with a Skagit line. Good idea? Bad idea? Rio? Airflo? Thanks!
  23. That's fair. You are probably right about the babysitting being less. I must say that unless I'm cooking hot (400+) I am putting on new coals less frequently than once an hour. I am however adding more soaked wood onto the coals once an hour and I suspect you'll have to do the same with a keg. My decision was also to stick with a weber was also influenced by price. I haven't used a keg style BBQ but all my friends that have them love them. I think you'll be very happy regardless of which one you choose.
  24. I have a 21" diameter charcoal grill and can't imagine having smaller diameter. I'd definitely go with the 24". Is there a reason why you're not considering a Weber Charcoal BBQ? I BBQ and smoke with mine year round. Turkeys, ribs, pulled pork, whole chickens, fish, lamb... They are also not nearly 200lbs which is nice IMO.
