I know Bull Trout are protected in Alberta however I see in BC you are allowed to keep 1 on some streams/lakes. Why are they so protected in Alberta and not in BC? Are they native to BC as well?
I find it's hit and miss as well. I've fished a ton up in the Varsity area (Bowmount Park I think) and I've had days where I'll get like 20 whitefish in 30 minutes and then the next day nothing and then the day after really nice bows and browns and then nothing. It's very unpredictable. I've abandoned the spot for greener pastures.
I was just up there last weekend, TONS of water and the boat launches were in the water. No prob launching now. Should still be the same now. We'll let you know for sure when we get back. Hopefully we'll have some fish pictures to share as well.
I found this cool piece of software and downloaded it. It allows people to submit their patterns and share with everyone else. It's a great idea however there seems to be no one else using it. Anyone else stumble across this?
I've used both and I don't see a significant difference. I'd be pretty sure that others have minimal differences. I do know though that some are sharper than others. I sharpen my hooks anyway so this isn't really a concern for me.
40 - 50 ft? There were only 5 ft. from shore the last time I was there. Pheasant tail, griffith's gnat, and the old san juan worm worked golden. Got 13 in about an hour or so. Try it again and don't be shy to try close to shore.
If you're responsible great. I've seen people who aren't and they don't impress me. I think most people are familiar with the irresponsible users. ie. long weekends in K country. I've used them myself in the past and of course have been responsible, that's the key. Sounds like you're golden, hopefully others will take your example.
I was thinking we could probably fit more fishermen in the big truck than that little thing in front of it and how the heck did that little Kal Tire truck get that big truck's tire in the box?
Mine looked very similar except the halos were down the exact center of the sides and they were very similar in size. Looks like it was a rainbow after all.
Agreed. However there are a few streams I hear a ton about that highly recommended. Can't remember the names as I'm usually somewhere close to home taking advantage of our local streams. We sometimes take for granted what we have in our backyards. People from around the world come here to fish and we're trying to do the same. Perhaps fishing is about more than catching fish.
Ah yes Athabasca. At least I wasn't dreaming. It does seem that BC fish are more colourful indeed. I love it!
I agree with you fishpro there are many different appearances, I was just so amazed at these halos. I've never seen that on a rainbow and everything I read makes the remarks "absence of halos" in regard to rainbows. And then I saw the sign. I don't think it was an Athabasca rainbow out in BC but you never know. What are the chances it was a juvenile steelhead?
I caught a rainbow trout last year in BC in Kikoman Creek, or at least I thought it was a rainbow. The only thing that confused me was the eveidence of halos along the side along with the pink stripe. Is there a name for this type of rainbow or is it a hybrid or something? I saw a sign at Forgetmenot Ridge in K country that said something about it, I think Assiniboine or Athabasca Rainbow? Anyone know what I'm talking about? I'll post a pic later to illustrate what I mean. Unless someone knows what I'm talking about.
Yeah getting hit in the head hurts. Unfortunately I know this from experience. However I learnt very quickly the importance of balancing an outfit. I know have way too many rods and reels. Wait is that even possible?
