  1. That's the name, I thought Richard was his first name for some reason
  2. I don't remember the fellow's full name but it's Richard something or other and it was set #5 that was the winner
  3. The ones I had pop off ere the large ones but a Finnish fellow I met on the river I was fishing told me he uses some epoxy on his monster cones and hasn't had one pop off since , so perhaps super glue might work too, worth a try I'd say.
  4. Mark, were the monster cones all the same size or mixed sizes; I have only had one pop off to date. Looking at the Tubeology kit I just got , it appears to have a fair number of gimmick components like spinners, spinner stops; it is giving me an impression that it is more a tube fly/lure kit system. I enquired about pricing at the show and I can see that being a deterent in catching on in popularity.
  5. Being that there are several tube fly systems now available to us here in North America, I'm wondering what types of opinions are out there on the various systems that are available to us. I have used HMH, Eumer, Protube and various "found" tubes like hobby shop metal, plastic and that sort of thing. I will be trying the new Tubeology system over the next few days as I received a sample kit from the manufacturer today in the mail.
  6. First off I would like to thank the volunteers that help me man the booth and tie a few flies for the fly box. The volunteers were Steve Murphy, Bhurt, Silver Doctor, Murray, San Juan Worm, FlytyerKyle. I would also thank Ladystrange even though she did not tie with us she did contribute a few flies to the collection. This year we did something different with the flies we tied at the show, in the past we did a draw on the last day of the show. This year we donated the fly box to Project Healing Waters Canada on behalf of the Fly Fish Calgary forum.Another big thank you goes to Pete Kauhausen of Amundson, who donated a large fly box in which to store the flies we tied. Pete and I both presented the box of flies to Project Healing Waters president Kerry Pitt. I must also thank Chris Bird for supporting our decision to donate the box of flies to this fine organization. From a personal point of view the show was a success, I'm proud to have been part of the donation made. It was great to see some of you again even though it may have been a year ago or longer, also to meet some of the newer members. One lady really stood out to me from the weekend as she wanted to start to learn to tie flies and was asking us about what would be the best vice for her to get but I think she had her mind already made up after seeing Norm Norlander's tying demo. I know she was not a member when we were speaking to her but if she did join up here I would like her to contact me as I'm kind of curious if my hunch was right. Another moment I enjoyed was discussing features of the Norvise and some possible improvements that could be made. As some of you may or may not know I am a huge fan of flies for Atlantic Salmon and with tubes catching on in North America, checked out 2 systems of tubes that are new to me, Tubeology and Protube. Both have some very interesting and unique features and concepts which I'll start a thread on in the fly tying section. On a final note I finally got to meet several individuals that we both wanted to meet face to face for quite some time. You know who you are and I'll say I was glad to finally meet you and it was about time.
  7. Dave, you should go to a Hook and Hackle meeting and ask if you can try a few different vises out......they all have a different feel to them, much like picking out a vehicle, test drive first. Or check at the show this weekend to try some from those who are there I personally favour Norvise and Law vises
  8. I now have enough volunteers and I would like to thank all of that have volunteered or showed interest.
  9. I could use another person in the 4:30 to 7:00 slot on the Saturday, if anyone could help out it would be much appreciated.
  10. Murray you are set in the schedule already with allowances made for the workshop. I'll be sending out more info to all who are helping out by hopefully sometime on Tuesday, I still have some details to work out and finalize.
  11. Sat morning?
  12. What size did you tie that there Dave? Looks good , I'll take a dozen
  13. Fri 2:00 to 5:00 Sat 2:00 till end of the day
  14. I could use some help on Fri and Sat if anyone is available
  15. That's what I have you down for , my post was directed at flyfishy as he gave no clue as to date and time. I'm still looking for a couple more people if anyone is interested.
  16. A specific time frame would greatly be appreciated as this all needs to be scheduled so we don't have everyone at the same time
  17. I'm looking for some volunteers to sit and the booth for the weekend show. We'll be tying some flies and talking with the public. Ideally it would be great to have 2 or 3 people at the booth at all times. Anyone interested can send me a PM with dates and times they would be available so that a schedule can be made up. Thanks in advance
