  1. A) I think it is only fair but also E with the caveat that if they want to go back there they should ask you first and tell you who you are going with.
  2. Hahahaha awesome pic FNG. I think I will wait until the end of the month to post as I grow facial hair like a 14 year old and all it looks like now is a greasy frenchman. Nothing against being greasy or french....of course ;-)
  3. We should have a flyfish calgary competition, at the end of the month we post a picture, and then vote on the best Mo.
  4. E) An unintentional release of methane gas, if it is a female an entirely different accidental release of air. Cannot remember the name for that off hand. :$*%&: If not that then I would assume B as well.
  5. Check your PM, I am heading out Saturday if you would like to join.
  6. Thanks so much Taco, now I am educated on the topic. Funny I was just reading about the Lahontan Cuttthroat, and the article answered many questions I have.
  7. If you don't know ask.... Why such a hate on for Brook Trout?
  8. Totally awesome, It amazes me the length that trout will go to procreate. How do they get over those two huge rocks near the outflow. Just amazing. Excellent work gentlemen.
  9. Those are some impressive beasts you have there. WOW
  10. Sundance Not sure if you meant the Cutty or Bull, But that was the first bull I saw, and I thought he was pretty neat with the white leading edges on his fins. Super sleak looking fish. But the Cutty's were nice too with their pink/purple bellies. Hawg All of the ones I caught were really healthy (no scars or damage, big bellies ready for winter) I thought that was nice to see. The only thing I disliked was the ATV crossing not 20ft from the hole were the Bull was.
  11. Well I drove up the Forestry trunk road hitting a few spots along the way. Day was really okay, 6 degrees but absolutely no wind, which is really weird for the mountains. I was able to hit up Racehorse, The Gap and then spent most of the afternoon on the Livingstone. I was able to pull in 5 Cutts ranging from 12-15ish, and 1 whitefish. My aunt was about the same, except that in one pool she hooked onto a massive bull, I saw it, awesome fish. However her 5wt rod with 4x tippet wasnt enough to get him to hand (too bad it would have been nice to measure him). He rolled and broke off just like that. I was able to get a quick picture of my first cutty of the day before my camera died. Note to self charge your camera or at least check it before you leave. They were hitting prince nymph a bit but we flipped a few rocks and found some green colored small what I believe were caddis nymphs. I found a green shiny nymph in my box (not sure of the name) and they were in love with it. All of the fish were in deep pools, none were found in tail outs, riffles or seams.
  12. Well put! I am thankful that my girlfriend bought me the beginner fly course as my birthday present. If it wasn't for her I would have never been introduced to this wonderful sport, people, scenery and of course the fish. I think I will show my thanks by heading out today as well.
  13. Ah Dang, I forgot about Chris Mason, I didn't even think he had a job this year, I would pick Vokoun over Chris, better chance at some shutouts. Both teams in my opinion will be equally bad.
  14. Brian Campbell played 68 games and got 38 points, even if he misses 3 weeks, he will only miss 9 games, barring any other injury he should surpass McCabes 43 points in 82 games. It was a 5 point differential, I am sure Campbell would come close to or surpass McCabe. Also I don't think florida is going to score many goals this year, Chicago even with their loses will outscore them as a team. I believe Steve Mason will have a comeback year, like his rookie year, however Vokoun is pretty consistent with at least 5-8 shut outs a year. But the team in front of him will be pretty weak this year.
  15. Junior Fair enough I am not a quadder but my father is and knowing him I know that he is quite responsible with the use of his quad and camping. He sticks to trails or designated off road areas and never crosses waterways unless there is a bridge. He loves quadding and I would hate to see him severly punished because of the disrespect of others. He enjoys the outdoors and equally he wants his use to be sustainable for himself and other outdoor users. "According to you, if poachers are responsible for the collapse of fish stocks in a given river, you should still be allowed to fish there, because it wasn't your fault." My intention with the comment about poachers was more aimed towards the point of, I wouldn't want strict restrictions passed on the bow river in response to conservation officials who have found other stocks in other rivers in the province reduced by poachers. I don't want a general rule for fishermen or quadders that makes generalizations from one area which are then applied to ALL areas. I am a fisherman and love the outdoors, but I know alot of other groups love the outdoors as well and I want them to be able to enjoy it in their own way that is sustainable and takes into account other users. Maybe I am just the devils advocate. I do agree that our rivers, mountains, foothills, forests etc are being misused currently, something we are sadly now starting to realize. If we want to change this for the future we need to discontinue the blame game and work together harmonisouly to change the rules for the betterment of the environment for all users. (wether it be sticter rules or better enforcement etc) Creating enemies in a fight for the same thing is irresponsible. Yes some quadders do a lot more damage than the rest of us, but there are also some quadders who do alot of good as well.
  16. Very well written letter! However unfortunately the counter point I forsee will be the explanation from ATVers that not all ATV owner/operators disrespect the land. In so far that it is a select few who are ruining it for everybody (OHV, campers, fishermen etc) I think this would be a prudent argument, how many fishermen break the rules with little to no enforcement also. To lump all ATV owners into 1 group is an eggrerious mistake and unfair. I would not want to be lumped into the category of poacher just because I fly fish like some people who break limit rules. There obviously needs to be a discourse between government, ATV owners and outdoorsmen about the sustainability of our rivers for the future. I believe this is starting to happen, but to peg all of the problems to one group. This will only serve to infuriate them and make them push back harder and possibly become even more degenerate in terms of our environment. It would be far easier to work with OHV operators to come up with a plan that best balances the needs of the environment, and the communities that enjoy them.
  17. Just awesome.....beautiful rivers.....beautiful pictures.......beaautiful fish
  18. Does look really good. Used copies of the book are on sale on Amazon for 1 cent (plus $6.49 shipping) so $6.50. Would be nice to see it here, or at the Banff Mountain Film Festival
  19. With the obvious crap weather we have been having I have some weather/fly fishing related questions. How much does weather play in the possibility of catching fish (I know that this possibity also relies heavily on the experience of the fisherman). What I would like to know is it better for a guy to wait for sunny/mediocre days or does it matter that much. How much does precipitation sun barometric pressure temperature wind etc.... matter when deciding whether one should go out. I was wondering about this as I froze my butt off in the rain and cold yesterday with only a single bite to show for my efforts. ( I thought shorts under my waders would be enough, wrong helly hansen gear is coming out for base layering in the future) Secondary to this question which is related is about river dynamics. The Elbow was relatively high (waist deep where I cross as compared to mid calf deep) as compared to a week ago (probably due to the moisture in the mountains) If you notice a river you usually fish is murkier and deeper (blown out I have heard it called) is it best just to wait for another day. Thanks for your input... J
  20. Awesome Rick, thanks for the update. I am going to do Edworthy to Crowchild with a couple of friends, hopefully the weather doesnt scare them off. I am also looking into if I can take my 60 grade 9 students down to the river for our Environmental Chemistry unit as a service project. Great way to explain some biology as well. Im hoping this can happen, great way for them to give back to their community. Cheers.
  21. I would be in for a clean up. Better be quick before the snow covers the garbage and then leaches into the river in the fall.
  22. Amen I try to pick up at least a couple of pieces every time I leave the River. I am of the mindset leave it better than you found it.
  23. Well I went out today in search of waders and boots. Tried on a bunch of pairs and just could not find the right fit combined with the features I was looking for. Ended up finally finally finding a pair of streamside duraweave waders. They seem to be extremely rugged and they fit the best. Paid a bit more than I wanted at $239 but I think in the long run they should last me a couple of years. Thank you for all of your advice it really helped. J
  24. I am of the same mindset, I like to go in my shorts during the summer, but now that it is getting colder I would like something I can use during fall, winter and spring.
