  1. Met up with Hawgstoppah ( who by the way is an awesome guide and teacher) to try a southern river. Try and try as we might neither of us were having any luck. Fish were definitely not their normal selves. Did learn an awesome new "bow river hookset" but to not infringe on Hawgs proprietary name I have decided to call it "lippiercing extraordinaire hook set". Anyway, with fishing a bit slow Hawg recommended a nearby lake, so away we went. As soon as we walked up you could see tons of fish searching for food.......we looked at eachother and it was go time. Threw in a stimmie, bang, gone! First one on. Put up a nice little fight and decided to wrap himself around a log. Tried dries for a little longer, and nailed one more on purple cutty killer. Switched to a boatmen. This was awesome I would throw it out and could still see it if I tossed it away from the sun. Stripped it in and could actually watch the fish follow and take the fly. Landed a couple this way. But then they were onto me in that spot so I decided to move over to where Brian was having some luck with damselflies. We stayed there for a bit catching a few each. Now these fish weren't huge by any standards, but man did the little guys put a fight on. It was a ton of fun with the fight they put up. We were both getting a bit hungry so decided to walk back, but Brian suggested we try for another 20 minutes (so glad we did this). We were still sight fishing, calling out fish that were approaching our damselflies. Brian had seen the Hog earlier on in the morning, but here he was a again trolling around looking for something tasty to eat. I tossed my fly to a spot where I could see it and where I could see the rainbow approach. Transcript: Me: I think he is going for it Brian: Nice Me: come on, take it, take it , take it, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He took it! Both: wooohoooo He put on a great fight, Brian did a great job netting him and then we posed for a few pictures. Anyway here is his picture, beautiful golden colored 21 inch rainbow. Definitely a chunky monkey. Thanks again Brian for the day. Any of you out there looking for a great day on the water with an incredibly knowledgeable and fun individual, then I would highly recommend Hawgstoppah.
  2. The ones we caught were on black from the shore.
  3. Floated FC to Mac yesterday. Fish were ON! Big black stones or golden stones were the key. When it slowed down we went to streamer fishing and picked up a few. Then the big wind storm hit and fishing turned off mainly because the boat was moving sooooo fast you couldn't get the right drift. But here is the hog of the day. My biggest brown to date. Measured him and he was 24.5 inches. Nice fight. Not the best picture I know, but we will get better as we go taking pictures.
  4. I hummed and hawwwed about this purchase for about six months. Would I really use it, is it worth it etc. bought mine less than a week ago and I am loving the purchase. Have used it only on the lakes so far, but as soon as the bow goes down a bit I will hit the river with it. Do you research is all I can recommend. I ended up going with the Outcast 9IR, 5 year warranty, solid build, stable in the water. Hope you get one, well worth it in my opinion. J
  5. Cant you just blow on it like the old NES games? I used to use highlighter on the affected area back when I played my xbox. Might work for what you have as well.
  6. My favourite quote of the day was: Bloom: "dude you need to get a bigger net"
  7. My first bullshead bow One of the first caught on the new toon First time fishing a lake with fly gear. All in all a pretty good trip.
  8. the next photo of the biggest of the day I think.
  9. Here are 3 of the pictures from the bullshead trip that we took this weekend for the streamwatch auction. Rick, Bloom, Palemorningdunce and myself. I only managed a couple of quick pictures, and took forever to resize them. But here they are. Sorry Rick, didn't get any of you and your fish.
  10. Need to buy rope for the anchor, how much should I be looking at? 50 feet?
  11. Where did you put the transceiver/transducer?
  12. Swivel was $8 at wholesale, Hardware to install it was $5 at Rona. You will need shorter wingnuts and some lock nuts and 4 short bolts. Took me 5 minutes to change it to the swivel. Terry Thanks for the idea, I think eventually I will grab a cheap sonar, if just for the water depth and temperature. I know the cheaper ones arent great but depth and temp would be helpful. Also thinking about a trolling motor for lakes. I have seen them for under $100, then all I need is a battery.
  13. Well I turn 30 on Friday and my wonderful lady friend bought me a pontoon boat. Wow what a woman. Maybe it had something to do with my constant badgering :-) Picked up the Outcast Fishcat 9-IR. Put it together and I am happy with the purchase. Also picked up an anchor, life vest and grabbed a swivel to upgrade the seat. I already owned flats wading boots which I will use with some flippers in the future. I think this will be better than the ones that go over your boots. Plan on giving her the first run this weekend at Bullshead on the TUC trip I won in the auction. Going to have to come up with a name in the next couple of adventures. Anyhow does anyone have any suggestions on future upgrades that I should do? (better rod holder etc) And if anyone is willing (when the water goes down to take a trip to show me the river pontoon ropes that would be awesome.
  14. Awesome fish That net looks like it was pushed to its fullest capability to land that sucka!
  15. I think I need some clarification here: Ladystrange is saying that people having been pulling down the fence to gain access to a closed nesting area. Some people are saying I don't pull down the fence but rather I walk around it to gain access. Point of clarification This restricted area, does it mean closed to angling? Is that why the fence is there? If so then wouldn't wading around the fence be the same as crossing the fence?
  16. National automotive glass in the the northeast. Ex military guy who believes in great work At a cheap price. Windshield came in 85 dollars cheaper than everyone else I called. No problems year in a half in.
  17. I hate water bottles when riding, much prefer a camel bak. Easier to use, right there when you need it and don't have to take your hands off the handle bars to take a sip. I have 1 camel bak hydration system that goes between my day hike, snowboarding and bike riding packs. Really easy to switch out and great value. I would also look at upgrading your seat. Gel seats are pretty sweet in combination with biking shorts. Makes for a much more comfortable day on long rides.
  18. Very nice Jeremie, bet those were fun to pull in.
  19. Went out to K country and area this past weekend. We caught a couple of these guys all about the same size. The picture with my blackberry is a little deceiving, they look much darker, in real life they were really lightly colored with a lot less intense spotting. I initially thought it was a bull trout but was later corrected by FNG and Birchy that they were Lake Trout. Pretty cool to catch from shore and they put a pretty good fight for such cold water. Cheers
  20. I would bring some benzodiazepine and t-bone steak, 5 minutes that puppy will be asleep....
  21. Smitty does this mean you would rather Matt date your daughter than give up your spring creeks....hmmmmm interesting
  22. I caught my first fish last year when I was 29.... Heck I was super excited. I can't imagine what I would have been like to do it at the age. Awesome weekend for him!
