I have been to two of the BC Forest campsites, they are one step above (or below depending on who you are talking to) the random camping in Alberta. The park rangers come by more often to collect fees, when I went they had a big pile of firewood (don't know if that's the case anymore). There were also outhouses and a one had a water pump the other didn't. The more remote one was a bit of a gongshow, some of the campers had guns and they were shooting them at stuff. we only stayed the one night. The other one was quieter but we got a bit of a hard time because of our Alberta plates, so we stayed two nights. A lot of the ones around Cranbrook and Fernie are situated on classified water so you will need to have paid your daily fee, unless you are only going to fish the lakes. Good luck.

The gist of oil is cars, we drive, the Chinese are starting to drive, the Americans drive. As for when will people cut back? In Europe gas is already 4 Euros a liter, and I saw plenty of Audi A6's blowing down the autobahn at Mach 10. Peak oil is like fishing, possible reserves = someone told you there's a river, probable reseves = you see the river, proven reserves = you see fish in the river, producing reserves = you have caught and landed a fish. People keep finding new rivers and new ways to catch fish.

Alright Les Habitants got by Ovechkin, it would be way cool to have them playing the Canucks in the Cup. Don't thing it'll happen, but a guy has got to dream. -
That's a pretty cool video, though not a blow-out, they're taking a "kick" which basically is like plunging a toilet, only in reverse. The formation fluid gets vacuumed into the wellbore, which temporarily causes the formation pressure to overcome the hydrostatic pressure. So the well burps up. I saw a derrickhand get burned doing a trip like the one in the video. Don't smoke on the monkeyboard. I was on a rig that blewout, I wasn't too afraid, though I passed a lot of guys that were. They managed to put out the fire and everyone was okay.

This is about the oldest and deadest horse that has ever been beat. It comes down to someone screwed up on the rig, no one plans to have a catastrophe. If you are reading this thread you are a contributor to the whole, and to make broad based statements and generalized finger pointing is very hypocritical. Whenever the price of gasoline goes up everyone complains, one of the reasons for the increase in the price of oil is the fact that it costs more to produce a barrel now, in discounted dollars, than it did 40 years ago. One of the biggest reasons for the this, is the increased environmental cost of operation. If every tanker that shipped oil was double hulled the cost would be borne by the consumer, you and me. If you want to see some really wild tailings pond go visit an open pit mine, coal, copper, gold, there's some toxicity for you to see. What it all comes down to is the fact that oil & gas is a really easy target for the environuts, it's everywhere and rich and bad and big and dirty and evil and.....I've said enough.

Tianna, of course they are mocking us, and it is after all "art". They never did catch any fish, it's closer to synchronized swimming, or should I say synCHROMIzied. LOL (I kill myself)

I'm cheering for all the Canadian based teams, I personally think Gary Bettman has a vendetta against the Canadian teams. He has stopped the return of a team to Winnipeg and a team in Hamilton and even said the same things about a return to Quebec. He really wants LA to keep going and so it would be great to have Vancouver take them out. -
Last year was weird, low temps and no rain duriing runoff and then regular rain throughout the summer along the front range, especially down the southern way. I know the locals in the "Pass" were complaining for the most part over the summer because of the low temps and rain. Plus according to my thermometer the water temps were pretty low for most of the summer too. But the weather is pretty localized in this part of the world, like most of the rest. And last year east and central Alberta were dry and hot, and so this year the east part has had some heavy precip, but us and the central part are bone dry. The June monsoon season is yet to come, and then maybe we just don't know what is going to happen.

Calgary Bow River Weir Project (harvie Passage)
trailhead replied to bigbowtrout's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I went to a couple of presentations on this project and from what I was told there will be options for the river runners through that section of the river. From challenging for the whitewater kayak types, to easy for the rafters. That being said, I don't think you'd want to be hosed out of your gourd in a inner tube trying to go down it. So I would say it will increase the numbers of river traffic, but I would think that it will only effect the portion of the river down to Fish Creek. By the way when will someone smarten up and put a gate in by the access at Lafarge? User traffic should be an indication that something there is needed. -

Well it's gotta be a bit on the "believe it or not" side, but the Flames are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. With out Iggy too. Backlund, Giordano, Dawes, Bourque et al seem to be carrying the load. -

Congratulations James, if you want some advice about how to get your girl fishing try Bobloblaw. Seems like he gets his daughter out on the water. I think there's a couple of other guys here who also in the same situation, maybe they can give you some pointers. PS I have a son and he has come fishing with me all of two or three times and he's 19 now. -
Ever Have Your Line Depart From Backing?
trailhead replied to Mudflap's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I actually had that happen to me on the Bow last summer. I got out pretty early one morning and and caught two or three fish on a size 8 stimulator, with a prince dropper. Had a few on too that got off, most of the fish were after the dry, but then I watched the dry go down and fish on. It took line ripped out into the middle of the river and all I could do was hold on. I managed to get some line back and then the fish came back toward the shore downstream from me so I was reeling in more line and walking downstream, I caught a glimpse of a huge tail, brown trout, and off into the middle of river again. I usually horse them in pretty hard but this fish was really strong and he got into my backing. I fought him a bit longer and then my rod just straightened out suddenly, and I thought that it broke off. But as I reeled in my backing there was no flyline on it. I was going to replace it at the end of the summer, and it broke off with just a 16th of an inch of the flyline still attached. The knot didn't break, the flyline did. All I can think is that the backing must have cut into the line and weakened it enough so it broke under the strain. Oh well that's fishing. -
Someone told me on the busier rivers in the US considerate anglers put a note in their windsheild that simply says "Gone upstream" or "Gone downstream" I tried that once on the Crow and I guess nobody looked at my truck and read the note because three groups of fishermen walked past where we were fishing. Though we continued up and didn't run into anyone.

My problem with Ann Coulter is she says she's all about free speech , freedom of the press and freedom of religion. Yet her main objective is to silence and restrict Muslims. A bit hypocritical in my eyes. Your free as long as you're not a Muslim. Anyone know if she's aligned with the JDL?

River (obviously The Bow) Advice
trailhead replied to jriad's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
They are moving into the faster water, if you have a thermometer take a measurement and if it is only a little above the freezing mark they will be in the slower water, but last weekend I was fishing in water that was 44 F and the fish were in seams beside some deep chop. Much faster water than I expected, the only reason I even tried was another angler was in the spot I was hoping to hit, and I ended up in a happy second best. -
I Plain Don't Get It
trailhead replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I was down in Arizona during a anti-Medicare rally and there were people waving guns in the air because of the proposed legislation. Now I have heard that there are going to be numerous lawsuits launched against it, and that when the Republicans get back in power they will try to quash it. I don't know if anyone here watches the TV show "Breaking Bad". But there is a direct link between insurance debt and crime. -
Here's if not the first, one of the first browns of 2010.
