  1. well........my thoughts were exactly as this...whitefish, pike..but then the size was way to big for a whitefish [looking along the size of over 8lbs], really am sorry that the pic is so crappy making the ID hard..however..this fish, because of it's shape, weight, even the snout, lead me to believe it was a "Bull Trout"...but seeing that I've not yet actually caught one here in Alberta, I was hoping that someone might have said it.......................Wolfie
  2. yesterday, had nothing better to do...so...took a walk in the city..saw this...you all seem to profess to be pros, so tell me what specie is this......................................Wolfie...now this pic may not be perfect, however, you all should be able to tell....NO?
  3. Ahh...yes position of power over others do have that affect, but think about..the vapors are heavy than air, thus sits above and grows as these houses produce more and more of this crap..but has anyone within the power of this city even thought of it as a public health problem to the body of ppl living here.."unknowingly"?..it is so easy to push such ideas under the carpet by blaming other things, but m8..don't just sluff this theory off so lightly............. ..What I forgot to mention and most important is the "DENIAL" that ppl get into about anything and everything...excuses against the truth................Wolfie
  4. just thought , cause ppl are going to fish the Salmon in BC.,they would like to know what has been producing..this fly, I tied up in the "Bow" colours, 'olive', but if tied in ..hot pink, blue ,purple and in chartreuse, will add the salmon to Ur count.....there are many ways to tie this fly but cause I always look for the easiest way of doing things, I do it this way.. ..hook size/and make your choice but for salmon..long shank size 6.. ..tail ..light colour of whatever colour you choose..in Rabbit zonk strips..1/16 th.-1/8 strip ur choice ..body..darker shade of same colour strips.. ..bead head, tungsten, red , size to suit hook.. ..for my purposes, I've made this smaller than what is used for salmon, hope you enjoy this easy fly..
  5. thanks guys for adding this other chart , and yes Yak, u are correct in the sink rate..I've been using just glass beads till last night when I switched to tungsten, same size making the same fly..czech nymphs and what a difference..............Wolfie
  6. Without giving any credibility to my questioning or statements in this thread , I've been reading a fair number of threads which have contained rather interesting posts, however, the majority of them have an underlined hostility to them..ppl coming into threads with a nasty taste in their mouths, maybe not knowning to themselves, but it comes out that way.. ..Now comes my Theory..so read it several times if you must but try and understand my words so that I don't have to explain it all over again, but in a different fashion... ..in the last 5 years of living in this city, a certain problem has escalated into a very serious situation, which has been ignored for other reasons one way or the other. Now I'm talking about the numerous houses that have been turned into drug houses..be it meth, or crack, I'm using these two chemicals to prove my point. Here you have these houses, [and most are known by ur cities finest] just a cookin up a pale yellow cloud over Calgary, because these two drugs need to be cooked to be created. ..Where does all that cooking chemicals, go to.."when water boils it is turned into vapors"..so does the excess of the chemicals which is in it's process of producing the 'rocks'.. ..Now we here on this board may or may not know what these drugs do to the personality of the user, both changes the personality of the person, making them more aggressive as more is consumed by them..their way of thinking towards others, the way things are construed by them [paranoia sets in], so with this knowledge now on how it affects ppl who takes these drugs..What is happening to the rest of the ppl in this city who is exposed to the "vapors" that have been dispersed during the cooking process of creating these chemicals, which sits over this city, inhaled by the ppl who live here on a daily bases, their personality , unknowingly are changing as well..think about ppl..really.. think of what I wrote.. .. ..Knowledge is a deadly weapon , but being kept in a cloud of No knowledge , can also be 'deadly'..................Wolfie
  7. ..seeing how I was having trouble deciphering what bead to use with what size hook, I decided to make up this chart this morning..hope it helps some of you , who also faced this dilemma..........................Wolfie
  8. here you go...soon to be on the plate... http://www.kqed.org/quest/television/774 .........................Wolfie
  9. I use the same set up as you do ..Rio gold 6wt, but maybe it is the rod that differs..mine is a 'trout bum-Loop', and I don't have the problem you are having...sorry m8, guess I'm no help............Wolfie

  11. funny enough Bhurt..had a hit on the one I tied yesterday..great bunch of flies m8...oh yes..suggestion..try taking a pic with a white background ..lay ur flies on that and see how the pic comes out...works for me...............Wolfie
  12. you should also put this request in the fly tying section, I'm sure someone in there will give you info............Wolfie
  13. ...am I wrong in believing that here in Calgary there is a Fine of $250.00 for using a cell phone while driving your expensive car, truck or tricycle?...but as far as those two ppl, how come you ruled out the possibility that they might have been "high" on whatever, which would put them both in a state of oblivion to anything............................Wolfie
  14. actually, Ive heard other ppl talk about this style of knot and from what I can gather the reason why it works so well is because there is no restriction holding the fly back..therefore it can sway in motion and undulate the way the dressing was designed to be use..[as in the marabou feathers]...so I think ur post has great merrit, at least I'll give it a try for sure.....................Wolfie
  15. Really...you think that this thread that I created gives anyone the 'right' as you call it to show displeasure to a store/any store with what is common slang words usually given off by ppl, who either are to lazy to use words, which would Not come across as if those words would show the intelligence or age of the person using them..such as what was displayed in the above post, OR if one was going to show their displeasure, such as I did , then 'discretion' of choice of words would be used as to Not to out right slander the store or the owner.. ..now if you want to continue to voice ur personal opinion to what I just finished writing ..then do so if not ..then show me that with your intellect , you can see it would end up as a pissing match with neither one of us a winner...Oh ya ..to quote a famous "Movie"....Budda Bing Budda Boom!..................................Wolfie
  16. am I drunk?....hell I just read my post over again and I certainly did not give out the impression that I was drunk..but what I do think is that you possibly had one to many tokes, and reading into things..just so you and anyone else understands...I do not drink or smoke..and as far as complaining is concern..it is one thing to be bothered by a salesman as soon as I walk in ..then it is for someone to at least say ..hi..and in my case with west wind..neither one of what I just said took place.. ...Heimdallr..thank you at least someone read what I had posted ..yes you were correct in ur answer...thanks again...........Wolfie
  17. hmm...7-8 lber...26"-28" no bigger................Wolfie
  18. all u have to do is copy the link and paste it up top...cause it won't work in the coded box............Wolfie
  19. Question:My buddies and I are always arguing about how long a given fish is, which means we have to break out the measuring tape. I would rather get fish back in the water as quickly as possible. What's the best way to get a fast measurement, while keeping the fish in the water? Answer:This is an important issue because the amount of time you keep a fish out of the water is crucial. Studies show that leaving the fish in the water while you unhook it can double its chances of survival. So what you need is a way to get a nearly instantaneous measurement on the fish you catch. I futzed around with several methods, until I finally settled on what I thought was the quickest and easiest: I measured my own forearm, from the point of my elbow to the tip of my middle finger. The total distance is just under 19 inches. From the elbow to the bump in my wrist is 10 inches, to the base of my pinky is 15 inches, and to the end of my pinky 17 inches. I easily memorized these numbers and could make a very educated guess for an inch or two to either side of these points. I could hold the fish just under the surface, lay my forearm alongside it, and get an immediate rough measurement. Sure, it wasn't exact—and I may have rounded up on occasion—but this method lets you know immediately whether a fish is closer to 15 inches than it is to 18. Anything over 19 inches, of course, is a little more complicated. In this case, I'd mark the 19-inch spot, slide my hand to the fish's nose, and do the estimate in reverse. Simply add the two numbers and you're good to go. (Example: tail forward to mark = 19 inches, nose back to mark = tip of middle finger to base of pinky, or 4 inches. 19 + 4 = 23-inch fish.) Anything over, say 25-inches and, face it, you're breaking out the damned tape. What I particularly like about this method is that you don't have to worry about holding anything but the fish. However, many anglers like to use their rod as a measuring stick. Jay "Fishy" Fullum, a well-known fly tier and angler, recommends using thread wraps on your rod blank. He makes narrow wraps at 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20 inches. You can use easy-to-read hi vis colors, or, if you think that ruins the aesthetics of your rod, you can use colors to match the guide wraps. When you want to measure a fish, simply lay the rod alongside the fish in the water and estimate based on your wraps. Both of these methods require a lot less fumbling through pockets or arranging stuff on your vest, saving valuable seconds separating the time you land the fish and the time you let it swim away. And if your buddies can't live without an absolutely, scientifically verifiable measurement, just get new buddies. It's better for the fish that way. These are not my personal words, however, just thought it would be a good topic here..what are your views............Wolfie
  20. Hope this gives you a better insight into the rigging/applying the two or even three fly set up..................Wolfie The length of a nymph dropper should be determined by where the fish are feeding in the water column. If trout are taking nymphs right below the surface, a 6-inch dropper will put the fly in the right zone. Earlier in the hatch, before there are many duns on the water, an 18-inch dropper may take more fish. If you want the fly right near the bottom, a 30-inch dropper will do the trick in shallow water. The combination of a heavy beadhead and a more buoyant nymph can be deadly. Dead-drifted, this rig puts the larger fly on the bottom, while the bottom fly imitates an insect that has been knocked into the drift. If you twitch your rod tip, you can make the bottom nymph dive and rise again, which often triggers a strike. A tandem rig featuring a nymph on top and a streamer on the bottom imitates a baitfish feeding on emerging nymphs. Oftentimes, a large trout that isn't interested in the nymph will take the opportunity to whack the baitfish imitation.

  22. Hi there...M'Lady..most ppl who meet me seem to have that reaction, they stare, then slowly move away similar to wolves at feeding time..the main wolves the 'Alphas' get to feed first, then the betas, then the rest of the pack, the omegas..and yes I do have that affect on the rest of the pack............... ..........Wolfie
  23. ya man..the intel that I received, which is more than the papers have said is that we..meaning the population of Calgary, should be very weary, of letting the women go alone to places such as this, for what had happened 5 years ago in Edmonton, may be the same..if you get my drift without saying it....................................Wolfie
  24. in leu of this Fish Creek crap...I was informed yesterday that the girl who was found dead at fish creek turned out to be a former girlfriend on my youngest son of two years..it was a total shock, and I'm still numb from the news............Wolfie
