  1. I like the para hopper, but alternate with rubber legged foam hoppers. As much as I like to tie, I prefer to buy hoppers, they're such PITA flies. http://www.westfly./patterns/dry/parachutehopper.shtml http://www.ultimateflyfishing.com/fly_tyin...te%20Hopper.htm
  2. OMG you guys are killing me. I obviously need to throw more laughing into my fitness program to avoid these side aches! To make you proud: I signed up for some time with a trainer yesterday, practiced my casting in the park, and then toasted the day with my favorite fishing buddy and some scotch. We dined on grilled pork over field greens, walnuts and dried cherries with a raspberry chipotle balsamic dressing. Also, to quell my nervous energy over the new program, I bought a couple of new outfits to lift in (with pant legs and sleeves long enough to keep my skin away from the gym's opportunistic fungi) and a pair of shoes. Today, I feel calm and rested. Looking forward to pumping iron in the rattiest gym I've seen in 22 years.
  3. That's the second good laugh I've gotten today. I like you guys!
  4. Good plan. Let's start with the vacuuming.
  5. And I'd use that gut I'd develop as a counterweight to my azz?
  6. Aside from practicing my casting, I think I need more of these: Anterior, medial and posterior delt raises Twisting crunches Shrugs Lat-pulls Bent rows Bi-s and tri-s Maybe a little more time on the exerbike. Any thoughts?
  7. That whole thing threw me into a philosophical quagmire. I mean, what if the hokey pokey IS what it's all about?
  8. For more on this and other native fish. http://www.wnrmag.com/stories/1998/apr98/darter.htm
  9. A beautiful fishy I scooped up on a stream survey in Wisconsin today. http://tinypic.com/62gk26v.jpg
  10. If you fish by the bridge in Elkford, watch out for the guy who says "I do this every day" as he proceeds to throw a stick for his dog right into the hole you're fishing.
  11. I said "wow" out loud when I saw it. Good work!
  12. We were shopping for our drift fishing needs and happened to find a pretty good deal on a two handed rod. We got a St. Croix Legend Ultra 7/8 wt 14'. The reel is a Cabela's LSR #4, which is actually a large arbor 9/10 We haven't gotten a line yet. Any thoughts on that? Multi-tip or not?
  13. I really like bootfoot waders because they get me into the river before my fishin' buddies! Seriously, they are my best choice for cold weather fishing, like Clive says. If you have ankle support issues, you can always use the little braces you get at the drug store over your socks.
  14. That's what I got from the wikipedia link. The transsphenoidal surgery involves going through the upper gum into the pituitary, or alternatively through the nose or under the nose. Not technically brain surgery but still entails some mucking about in your head. Get well soon, Birchy.
  15. It's all fun and games until someone puts an eye out. flyangler~ aka buzzkill
  16. Beastly clever, Clive! I'm a serial crafter, jumping from craft to craft and collecting loads of stuff along the way. A few years back I got a cannister of flower drying dust at a craft store and now have a lifetime supply of desiccant for flies as well. It also is of a grit that requires a bit of grinding. I can't beat free for a price, though! I think I paid $6 USD for the pound of silica grains. Try not to breathe the stuff, though, it's seriously bad for your lungs.
