  1. Good on ya 420, lots of idiots out there for sure... Why is it so hard to read and understand regs.
  2. Can't give you the key to success, but trying to please everyone is generally a key to failure. We have turned into an entitled society, everything should be easy and quick for people. I'm not in retail anymore but I still face alot of clients in the run of a week.
  3. Well said... and if they don't wave back, frig em... I go fishing to relax, and when i'm out flicking a fly, nothing gets me down. Catching a fish is a bonus, not the do all and end all. If someone doesn't talk to me, no big deal. Fishing is supposed to be fun folks, laugh it off and enjoy your day.
  4. Here's another one that a friend caught from a hiway cam back in newfie...
  5. Personally haven't had any issues with people drifting the river, guess i've been lucky, they keep their distance and a quick chat as they are going by. It's the shore fishermen that have me scratching my head, try to be friendly and they look at me like I have 10 heads.
  6. Tell you what, lets go out one evening this week and give a repeat performance. i'll be sure to bring the video camera, get some youtube going for everyone ;O) Glad you had a good day of fishing tho!
  7. Oh, I can see you getting hooked on chuck and duck pretty quick. Nothing like a big pike on a flyrod, just remember to grip your rod tight cause they will make off with it lol. They tend to make short strong bursts of speed. Big ugly flies is the ticket, surface flies (I use mice and frog patterns) in the wee hours of the morning. Thin steel leaders work well or a strong tippet -their teeth will chop off weak mono. Gets the heart pumping when you see the swirl before the pike hits. Oh and there are trout lakes in the gap. Give me a shout before you go

    Hackle

When I looked earlier today it was $550 - now it's $680. wow And how can something be classified as "new" when it came off a dead bird? For the less learned like me, what did something like this go for before the "hair hackle" thing?

    Rainbows

The fish are really starting to color up nicely... Looks like a great day!
  10. Oh c'mon, throw it back and go for bigger why don't ya Very nice, must have been a great day!!
  11. I've been finding that fish are hitting more 10 to 20 feet out the last couple of times i've been out. It's odd, when the river was high and dirty I was running my indicator at 9 feet thinking the water was really deep - and losing flies like crazy. I'm realizing now that the water is clear that these same areas are only 2 to 3 feet at best LOL.
  12. Geebus, that's my dream pike. Must have been alot of fun doing chuck and duck!
  13. What did the combo cost you Andrew? Does it meet expectations?
  14. Dropped into springbrook today to get my rod tip replaced - partly a big mistake, Ssomeone like me in a place like that. The BVK was brought up in conversation and I was brought in a back room. The gentleman tells me to close my eyes, hands me a rod and asks me to tell him what weight it is. I'm thinking 5 wt - no it's a 9 weight with the new BVK reel attached. This is a really light combo, i'm going back one day to demo it out in the back yard. Didn't have time today due to work.
  15. I guess i'm asking how to stay out of logs, but it's not really possible... All my tippet is new, i'm using improved clinch knots, always wet the line before I tie it down. I'm using 10 pound test and knots are good, when i'm really snagged into something heavy, it takes alot of force to break everything. Sometimes the bottom fly goes, sometimes it'll break at the clinch of the top fly, and i've had my surgeons knot snap. I'm soon going to try some of the braided line from my spincast, wonder how that would cast? The hooks would break before the line would.
  16. Generally losing the bottom fly - tried what you suggested, now i'm losing both. Just some of those FML moments lol... Oh well, have to expect some collateral damage when fishing - i've only lost one to a tree this year.
  17. Nymphing will soon be ending for me anyhow, time for dries and subsurface!!! Can't wait to start doing some real casting again )
  18. Yeah, sucks that i broke the rod but ill be back online by tomorrow evening. Nearly bought a new one tonite but im going to start buying gear for camping this week. Been using 10 pound test tippett, takes more to break it off then 10 pounds. Wish someone would come up with a hook system, sort of like weedless - but for flies
  19. Soon going to fork over my paycheck to fishtales in flies alone... Been losing stones like crazy, great quality ties but at 3 bucks a pop this is adding up in a bloody hurry. Tie into bottom grass, usually can pull out but with a log? My knots are strong, takes alot to break the tippett off. Any tips on keeping more flies? Broke my TFO rod tip last night too, off to springbrook in the morning...
  20. It was pretty sweet when we both had fish on at the same time. Won't get much fishing in this week, but i'm free most of the weekend. I deal with alot of people day to day - due to my job - and they are always amazed when I tell them of the fishing right here in the city... Have to show them pictures as proof cause they don't believe me...
  21. Yeppers, great quality stones. Don't be a hawg and save some for me eh? I'll be down later today to replenish my flybox.
  22. you can either copy and paste into word (or whatever package you have) or click on file, save as and save the web page to your computer. Just make sure the song name is in the name being saved.
  23. Definitely worth the wait, very nice coloring on the fish... Didn't run at all, just had a heck of a time getting it off the bottom. Got it back in the water facing upstream and it just swam off slowly but strong. The bull is the next on the list
