  1. I definitely would report it if you have the license plate number - probably be doing someone else a favor for sure. Those logos are easy to replicate - I have my company logo's on my car done up on magnetic strips, easily done and easy to remove.
  2. There are so many scams on the go everywhere, edmonton is definitely no exception for sure... I personally haven't run into it but I guess it's worth checking for a meter from now on. all taxi's are supposed to have them. http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/Edmont...4846/story.html
  3. You mention that you don't want to use someone elses hosting service? Are you planning on purchasing a hosting plan for yourself? Cause they are pretty cheap these days and you have full control of your site - many of these freebie sites do not give you a copy of what you've created. Not trying to advertise here, but I've been using downtownhost.com for the last couple of years and their cpanel includes a website builder, tho i've never used it and I can't vouch for it. Joomla was mentioned, yes it's great, have a couple of websites built with it now. It's a learning curve but so is basic html - and everything you do is done through your website once the software is installed and linked to your mysql database. Nothing really uploaded or downloaded. Pages are created as articles, you create a new article and publish it then create a link... There are many templates out there, both free and paid. search google for "free joomla templates" and you'll spend hours searching them. Joomla isn't the only content management system but it's one of the most common. You can also look at blogging software if you have your own host - something like wordpress - again, many free themes out there. Easy to use, and again, all the pages are created through the website. Forum software can be effective as well, i've used a combination of SMF forum software with a tinyportal front end to create the entire site. There are many free forum software packages out there to choose from. Again, publish articles as webpages through tinyportal and you're good to go. Again, many free themes on the net that you can work with and modify to your own. Basically it boils down to what you want, and what you're trying to do. Pm me if you want to know more, i'm not the most creative but i've been dealing with most of this web software for years now.
  4. now that's what it's all about LMAO I wasn't there long enough for him to catch a fish though, but would have loved to see the reaction.
  5. Yeah, it was quite funny... Thanks Rick, i'll try that next time, didn't even think about it. Always lots to find around the shores of a lake.
  6. A friends 4 year old has been aching to get out fishing for a while now, had wednesday afternoon off so I packed him in the car with the gear and off we go to cardiff - figure it's a small lake, get him in the inflatable and catch some fish... I'm always nervous about taking responsibility for someone elses young child - especially where water is involved but it's too weedy to fish from shore now... Well, we get there and he's all excited - took me 10 or so minutes to get set up and get the boat in water. All the while, he's saying hurry up and lets go. get him into his life vest and in the boat, anchor 20 feet off shore past the weeds, set him up with his rod and power bait and a bobber and into the water it goes. Now I'm not about to bring a flyrod with me with a young feller around, and i haven't used lures in 20 years for trout but I rigged up my line as well, figure if either rod hooks a trout, let him reel it in and call it his. Before I could cast - not 2 minutes after setting him up - he looks at me and says in his little pronounced voice "I don't want to fish no more, let's go home". All I could do was grin and smile. He wants to go again, and I definitely will take him... it's a good thing we didn't stay cause the storm that ripped through Morinville an hour later was a good one. This is the first time i've been out with someone so young and it was fun while it lasted... anyone have some tips on fishing with young kids?
  7. Now that's a great plan Two big thumbs up for putting this together!!!
  8. The point i'm trying to make is that people are quick to crucify. Not so quick to say i'm sorry... Did these boys deserve the comments they received on this forum? I think not.
  9. I really think that people need to take a step back and take a hard look at themselves... these duck poachers have been crucified and now these kids chasing a moose... read the responses some of you have made but here's the latest. Please have a read. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/newfoundland-labr...isited-812.html and please, rethink what some of you are saying
  10. First of all, if you have honey bees, do call a bee keeper - most will gladly take them off your hands. Bees seem to be dying off over the last few years and nobody really understands why. They are one of the most beneficial creatures on the earth due to the pollenation they do to produce the foods we eat. If it's anything other than bees, try this. It's very safe and it works. you'll get a laugh at it too. My ex had 2 wasp nests in her back yard - seemed like overnight the nests got huge. There was one in the corner of the house where the concrete had a crack in it - the other was in a brick retaining wall. Tried everything from sprays to filling it in, nothing worked. Here's what you do: Take a regular pop bottle, cut the top off where it curves to the full width of the bottle. Now you have a funnel. Get a shop vac, that funnel you made should fit in the end of the hose, tape it off so it doesn't come out. If you have a few hoses you can tape together, all the better, more distance between shop vac and funnel. Put a few inches of water in the shop vac and a teaspoon or so of dish detergent. Get the funnel as close as you can to the opening of the nest - do it at night time while they are quiet. come morning when the bees/wasps are fully active, just turn the shop vac on, sit back with a beer and enjoy the show. They will come out of the nest to attack the funnel and get sucked right in. You'll have to leave the shop vac on for a while - then turn it off for a bit to let them settle, then back on. It's fun to watch from a distance - no stings involved. I've done this and was amazed at how many wasps got sucked up in no time and yes, the wasps will die in the shop vac - no worries about getting stung when pulling the top off. After you're satisfied enough wasps are gone, fill the holes with wasp killer and spray foam.
  11. Thanks, i'll have to buy a net. Just one more thing to carry around. Makes sense to retrieve from the side, more stable that way. thanks
  12. I did some pike/walleye fishing the other day for the first time from the float tube, normally flyfish for trout from it - wonderful fun but nerve wracking. I currently own one of these: http://www.creekcompany.com/indivdisplay.p...D=251&Cat=2 I hooked into a bunch of smaller pike, biggest being 5 to 6 pounds but managed one big walleye. This walleye almost took me out of the float tube, had no footing due to deeper water and it made me panic. I brought it to the surface between my fins and it shot down under me. Is there a better way to bring in fish from a tube? any hints? from the side maybe? or should I be getting a seatbelt installed LOL. I wouldn't know what to do with a 20 pound pike from a tube.
  13. Ok, lets discuss this for a minute... So far this is the 10th response to this thread but over 600 views... what does that tell you first of all. I asked a question that wasn't answered - what do you think would happen if the BC fisheries were shut down? Is there another way? The population of the world is pushing 7 billion and that's alot of hungry mouths. Ok, it wasn't just overfishing - it was the way it was fished and it still happens today - pure economics. The habitat was destroyed when the trawlers were raping the ocean floor - everything came up with the cod - the food chain is broken. Are we really dissimilar here? You talk of the spawning grounds being destroyed - just in a different way with a different species. How is that dissimilar? Yes, things could have been done differently, and they could have been done differently on the BC coast as well. How long has farming been going on in BC now? I'll freely admit that things could have been done differently - but we as a race tend to take the easy way out - technology gives us easier ways to take. The other, more sustainable sources of protien? here we go with the salmon - yep, great source of protein. So why can't a moratorium work for the BC salmon stocks or the fishery in general? Again, supply and demand with econonics tossed in. People have to eat - and people have to work - and that's the attitude. Since the moratoruim in Newfoundland, concentration has been focused on other stocks like lobsters and other fish. How long will they survive? So what is the real solution here? Do you think the government really cares? No, they don't. It was mismanagement and greed that killed the newfoundland fisheries - is that different in BC? That's the point i'm trying to make. Not eating farmed fish... My personal take on farmed fish is that it's disgusting, i'd prefer wild and it's not often i'll eat salmon anyway. But it's still demand. People still want their big vehicles, they still want their toys, they still want food, they still want oil - again, not to sound negative but how do you change that? People as a whole won't moderate themselves so others want more rules put in place to moderate them - all of us. Now how do you exact change given those circumstances? It's not just the BC Salmon stocks that are in trouble - all the BC fisheries are in trouble. Concentrating on one isn't going to fix the whole.
  14. well, not to sound negative here but all you need to do is look east to see where this is likely heading. I was born and raised in newfoundland and look at the situation with the fisheries there. Total and complete collapse in 1992 and that's exactly where the pacific salmon stocks and the BC fisheries are going to end up if things aren't changed in a hurry. When economics are involved, things aren't going to change and no amount of petitioning is going to fix things. Ask yourself this question? What would happen if BC took the same steps and closed down everything related to the BC salmon fishery? Cause that's probably what's going to have to happen to solve this?? Maybe i'm wrong. Everything is in trouble on the east coast, lobster, crab and whatever else swims in the ocean - the food chain is broken. Now how does one fix that? Supply/demand and greed are the biggest part of the problem on every level and that's what has to change. People demand, supplies are made to fulfill that demand.
  15. Farming isn't the only reason for the decline of the pacific salmon stocks, but this post is almost entirely laying the blame on it's shoulders... how about throwing overfishing in there, loss and destruction of fresh water habitats, the list goes on...
  16. Been there... I have had 2 speeding tickets in my life, both in alberta after 20 years of driving all across canada. Been through lots of spot checks - which i don't mind cause I don't drink - but when getting pulled over for speeding, it's no fun being treated like an ass by some cop having a bad day. Both tickets I found myself in the way of a semi, had no choice but to speed up to get out of their way. The cops seen this but still barked at me. Nothing like being belittled by the law. Paid the tickets without contest cause I was speeding. Funny one tho, my second ticket was last winter - laser trap and it was cold. The cop that pulled me over was sitting in his warm car, pulled his cruiser out into traffic - nearly causing an accident to get me out of the fast lane. I pulled in about 50 feet from his cruiser and he comes up to my car in a bitchy mood. Goes back to his car and writes me up.... I laughed my ass off when I watched him try to back up his cruiser the 50 feet to my car - this guy couldn't back up to save his life, tires over the curb, weaving back and forth. I'm red in the face by the time he makes it and trying not to laugh at him...
  17. i'm yet to lay eyes on an officer, let alone get my license checked.
  18. I don't know a heck of alot about concrete but from the spalling driveways i've seen, there's no room for the concrete to expand. properly done, concrete should have cuts to allow for expansion and contraction as it heats and cools. Could just be poor quality concrete as well.
  19. but what kind of phone is it? make and model required for assistance. If you have the cable to plug your phone into a usb port on your computer, then that's all you need. If you downloaded a utility and installed it, then you should be able to fish through and find your pics to transfer. Generally you can update contact information as well with the software.
  20. Expectation and mentality - key words here... let's put a rediculous spin on this and look at it a different way...? what if we were to stock a field with 10,000 bears, fence them in and let people have a free for all? Yes, there would be people that would take advantage of it, we all know it... But that would definitely make people stand up and take notice... Why do people have the expectation of free fish at all? Is it a right to pick up a fishing rod and catch fish to eat? No, it's a priveledge but there are those that do it. How about some education on why not to do it? The analogy was made of raising livestock for human consumption... yep, all fine and dandy but the beef, pork and fish in my freezer ain't free and it ain't cheap... maybe if people had to pay for the right to keep some of these trout in lakes, then they would think better of it.
  21. I'm in agreement with alot of what you're saying here but i'm going to add that what happens at stock ponds is just delaying the inevitable. We should be looking at what happens at these stocked ponds as a sign/symptom of what is happening at the natural lakes and rivers. Yes i agree that it's a source for meat fishers, but it's also shows the real problems in the fisheries today. People will sit with coolers and multiple rods and take what they can, it's really sad. I enjoy the stocked ponds once in a while, great for a quick fix when i can't get out anywhere else but i'm strictly catch and release - everything goes back in the water. I've had people get so mad that i've thrown large fish back, should have given it to them. Yeah, they get fished out in no time and there are some that keep everything they catch - leaves me wondering what a person is going to do with a 4" stocker. If people would moderate themselves, then there would be no need for regualtions and laws to govern us.
  22. Bluetooth is basically wireless. First up, what make/model is your phone? Most have a slot now for a microSD card - I got a 2 gig for 10 bucks. makes life so much easier to transfer pics.
  23. I fully understand how it all works, but my question is, how does one motivate somebody that is guaranteed a million a year no matter what? That's a big responsibility, isn't it - then to be forced to take the blame when the team fails - just look at what people are posting about keenan on hockey forums - where is the motivation to be a coach... As with any sport, the team that wants it the most, gets it... The flames haven't hoisted a cup in what, 20 years now? oilers in 19? Pretty sad testament to team motivation IMO. Yeah, there are some coaches that should never be. Tremblay tried to enforce his idea of "it's my team" but he learned the hard way that it was Roy that motivated the habs to their last stanley cup. At the NHL level, these players shouldn't need to be coached, they got there because they are damn good at what they do - and money should be the motivating factor to play your ass off.
  24. I love these threads - why do people blame the coaches and not the players? How does a coach motivate his players that are making millions a year wether they play good or bad? Figure that one out then come back and talk. If i'm working for a company for a set salary and not producing, then i'll probably get fired. Start firing some of these overpaid hockey players or pay them based on performance, then we can have a real game. Until then... JMHO
  25. Great pics! Slow or not, any day that my name isn't listed in the obits and I can get out with the flyrod is a great day
