  1. boiled a few eggs for breakfast this morning, after 5 minutes I figured they were done. Pulled one, dipped it in cold water and started peeling. A chunk came out exposing the not so done innards and yolk. Fine, let the other 2 boil and threw the other in the "microwave" for 30 seconds to finish cooking it. Picture this, I pull the plate out of the microwave - egg is well done - and put it on the coffee table. 30 seconds or so later it starts to whistle really loud and I move in close to see what the heck. BOOM!!! there's egg everywhere and in tiny little pieces - i've got a few minor burn spots on my arms, nothing serious... Am I the only one that didn't know that eggs in the microwave isn't such a good idea?
  2. I'm sorry to hear about your dog, hope it all comes out well for you and your pup - but sometimes there's very little you can do to protect them... I lost my girl over 3 years ago, she got away from us and as far as we can tell she got into mouse poison - I asked the vet straight up if poisoning was a possibility when she got sick and she said no. It wasn't til it was too late that she said yeah, she was poisoned and by then there was nothing that could be done. After 3 years, i'm still not over the loss of that little dog. Hard to believe how fast they become a deeply entrenched part of your life and i'll never find another like her. The best you can do is try to keep them safe.
  3. Unfortunate way to put it but it's hard to disagree... I just don't understand why adults don't make kids wear them on any body of water. I always have one on, be it boat or tube - hardly notice it after a while and I can actually put the butt of my rod into the straps to aid in fightig fish It's like seatbelts - I always have one on - and had to use it once. Young fellow hit me head on, was in my lane - combined speed of maybe 160 km/hr. Not fun - lots of bruising from the belt but bruising is better than dead. Live to fish another day
  4. I'm amazed at how many people get on the water in boats and tubes without a lifejacket on, scares me to no end but it angers me when they have their kids in the boat and not a lifejacket to be seen... I was at Devils lake on hiway 37 this morning and I talked to a few people that were just getting set up to go out fishing. Again, small aluminum boat, no PFD's - but yet, right by the boat launch stands a cross - a deadly reminder of the 3 people that lost their lives on Devil's just over 2 years ago. How many people don't use lifejackets? Let's get a show of hands... it's too late when your boat is upside down and you're in the middle of a lake without one. Now for a silly question... I've floated rivers (after getting taken off my feet) and have had my waders fill up with water - not a great feeling and i'm sure we've all experienced it at some point. I've often wondered something when tubing - will a standard lifejacket still keep a person afloat with sheer body weight and a wader load of water? It's not something I want to test, just wondering if I ever fall out of the tube anytime soon - i've come close a few times... Has anyone experienced this?
  5. That's what it looks like, human teeth marks - they trying to create another loch ness?
  6. oh, if you don't want prescription meds for a pain killer, you should try a product called Mersyndol - they are non prescription but you have to ask the pharmacist for them. T3's never did squat for me with pain and mersyndol is lower on codiene but they work wonders - even on migraine. Haven't had to take them in years but it's the first thing i'll reach for if i'm in serious pain.
  7. There's a list of foods to avoid - diet is a big thing with controlling gout. something else you may want to try - half a teaspoon of baking soda in water before bedtime... A friend gets gout, i've never had it - but it seems the acids build up in your system overnight and the baking soda helps him... I feel for you, my friend suffers with it terribly when he's off his diet.
  8. That's gotta be one of the most craziest things i've heard in years - but I love it!!! Going to have a go at it one day at cardiff park
  9. it's a trick question, took me a minute to figure it out... Which one is a fish? 1: pike 2: moose
  10. the thought has crossed my mind of "why give them a dinghy, just drop them off" but that would be cruel I guess... I watched a few programs on discovery on ships travelling that area and the stress the crews are under wondering if they'll get hijacked or not. Having to build a safe room in a ship just because of piracy??? sometimes I wonder.
  11. on another note, I went to safeway a couple of nights ago and this elderly lady was getting out of her car and she was parked in a seniors zone - I said "you're a little young to be parking there aren't you?". I was trying to pay her a compliment in an offhand way - not being sarcastic or anything. Well did she go off on me, omg fiesty little thing she was, thought she was going to beat me with her cane... I had to explain to her I was paying her a compliment - we had a good laugh over it afterward. Have to be careful what we say and how it's said I guess. People can take things the wrong way.
  12. well, generally when someone springs from their car and dashes into the store, they are ok...
  13. put yourself in a wheelchair for a couple of days and see if you feel any differently after the experience - it's not fun and people are arseholes on every level. I believe that yes, the ticket value should be raised but you're right in one thing - start cracking down on the people abusing it. i've damn near been in a few scraps now asking people why they are parking in a handicapped space when they are fine. claiming ignorance cause you have handicap sign is not a defense.
  14. Yeppers, I can see the headlines now, "TFO - not just for fishing anymore"... The point has been made that if what you consider bad etiquette is happening to you all the time - just move on... Makes me wonder if it's not everyone else with the problem - and maybe it's your own attitude... Some people just like to push buttons when others are pissed off... Yeah, i've had people drop in unannouced and if I let it get to me then i'd never enjoy flyfishing - if I carried an attitude that this is mine, and you can go somewhere else then i'd probably be in a bad mood all the time. Use it to your own advantage and have fun with fishing - don't be afraid to make some adjustments to benefit someone else - and don't expect others to bend to your will all the time. Present yourself with a smile on your face and a good attitude and people will treat you better - if you're scowling at other fishermen then yeah, chances are they won't be friendly. Don't you teach your kids to share??? If you believe that you have a right to fish a hole solo when there's a whole city around you? Then you're in a class of your own, get your ass out in the middle of nowhere and nobody will find you. After all, etiquette boils down to your own personal belief - either learned through your own mind or taught to you by someone else - throw that away and put some common sense toward it. Some people carry the etiquette that they can keep everything they catch and think barbed hooks are great - but what does common sense dictate??
  15. Interesting read... How can someone claim over 300 feet of prime river and call it etiquette? Then feel like they can intimidate another fisherman into leaving the hole with a fly across their bow or a sage mustache? I started fly fishing at 10 years old - and I have never had a bad encounter in my life - and I hope I never do. Anyone i've ever come across has always been very friendly, willing to chat and more than willing to have a fishing friend to share knowledge and experiences with, just makes the experience better. I've given knowledge and learned alot from others I meet. It's what fishing is all about - fun. I've come across people that didn't know how to fly fish, and end up spending a couple of hours of MY day teaching them, gone so far as rerigging their gear properly - I have no problem with that what so ever, I enjoy it. I'm not master at fly fishing but I wasn't born with that knowledge and ability for sure. We all learned to do it. I've personally fished side by side in many rivers with a friend that was 10 feet away from me, able to chat and have a laugh all the while - one or the other of us will adjust our cast to accommodate the other... Funny how we'll do that for a friend but some won't do it for strangers. I won't put myself in a situation where i'm casting over someone else - or put someone else in danger... But that said, if someone puts me in danger (with a sage mustache or a fly across my bow) cause they feel i'm breaching their 300 foot "etiquette", then we're gonna dance, you'd better know how to swim.
  16. Just tried hitting your site again and yep, it's being blocked by google No offence Doc, but your setbb tech is full of it... this happened a while back with setbb too, and it wasn't just with setbb - can't remember the exact message but it was indeed a problem in the header and it did indeed try to introduce a trojan into the system.
  17. Sarah Palin?? LOL - least she's good for a laugh... Edmonton had it's dark day last fall with a visit from GWB - so don't feel bad http://www.cbc.ca/canada/edmonton/story/20...ch-protest.html
  18. I'll throw my list in there... While cod jigging with hand lines back in newfie - couple of sharks, human bones, various pieces of clothing, hooked into a stingray one time - that was lots of fun... regular fishing - Bags of drowned kittens and puppies - yep gross. a beaver - that's a fun one. muskrat. hooked a gopher on the fly one time - they aren't so sweet when being reeled in but have a nice fight to them (not to sound cruel). We used to fish for seagulls - yep, they get pretty cross too
  19. You must have the patience of Job - looking great tho - you've got skillz.
  20. do the sculpins in the bow look anything like this??? I've caught them alot bigger than this too http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3035/233950...d0bceff.jpg?v=0
  21. What kind of laptop is it and what operating system are you running? You didn't by chance hit the wireless switch and disable it? WEP is gone by way of the dinosaur - most routers today will encrypt to WPA2, use it. WEP is highly hackable now.
