  1. What we learned from Earth hour in Calgary: we love the environment, but we love to stay warm and watch hockey more.
  2. You can get a fishing license there on a Sunday evening when all of the other shops are closed, even Canadian Tire!
  3. So I've searched high and low for different wader options, and I think I'm down to my final two: Simms G3's or the Dan Bailey Yellowstone Guides. Both have similar features, with big pockets, fleece hand warmers, heavy duty waterproof breathable material, and highly recommended at the flyshops that carry them. Both also appear to be used by lots of guides who swear by them. The Dan Baileys are cheaper, but don't have the Gore Tex brand material like the G3's. My question is, which one would you take? Is there anyone out there with the Yellowstones? I've heard lots about the G3's already.
  4. Hey Brent, are they clearing out the old G3's where you work? I may have to come by sometime. I forget what size fit me the best.
  5. Flies I like: - parachute adams - size 18 - griffiths gnat - size 18 - chernobyl ant or turks tarantula - size 10 - green drake - size 12-14 - lotsa fun in July!! - caddis - size 14-16 - yellow humpy - size 14-16 I'm not a Bow expert, but these are great flies everywhere else. I need to try ickyflyworks.com someday...
  6. I was actually in Rwanda in July 2007. This country is amazing in so many ways. Can you imagine living amongst those who slaughtered your family... and forgiving them? The people are vibrant, the land is lush, the country is dirt poor, but it's a nation full of hope. They don't consider themselves Hutus or Tutsis anymore, they're all Rwandese. It blew me away, and I came back with a lot. Here are some pics of my trip there: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=1853...mp;id=595690165 http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=1853...mp;id=595690165 http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=1853...mp;id=595690165
  7. Love the Turk, as it is one of my favourite flies for Southern Alberta, except for the Liv (for some reason, they don't work as well there). However, it's a pain to tie, so I get them 12 for $12, as it's not worth my while to tie them. Thanks for sharing.
  8. OMG, I almost spit out my lunch laughing so hard at this picture. The contrast is like Shaq trying to ride a tricycle.
  9. Too bad you can't go visit them and "accidentally" spill some boiling hot tea on the guy's nuts... Maybe the cops can work something out for ya, hehe. Yeah, I'm a little vengeful that way when it comes to injustice. I feel for you, man. I've had my car broken into twice, the second time they took 2 LOONIES, but left my Sage flyrod alone. I'm glad the thieves were that dumb.
  10. Dude, that thing is huge!
  11. Last week, they were forecasting the mother of all chinooks, with temperatures climbing to +10C today and tomorrow. Well, the warm air is staying high, and we're still freezing our buns off. I was looking forward to some warm weather to try out some winter fishing for the first time. I guess I'll have to wait a little longer for that now...
  12. Bannock is awesome for camping too. You roll up the dough and put it on a stick. Then you cook it over hot coals, add jam, and yum! Dang, that just made me drool. Now why didn't I have one of those when I was camping at the Liv...
  13. Wow Dryfly, that is one versatile pattern... it imitates everything!!!
  14. Dryfly, I love it! Just hilarious!
  15. Nice bows!
  16. That one is actually my go-to nymph/dropper for most streams. It works awesome for the Liv and the Highwood.
  17. Hey Kungfool, I'll contribute mine to this thread as well:
  18. I took some time to tie some different nymphs after a friend of mine showed me a few tricks. Sorry for the crappy pics. If I do this more often, I'll come up with a better setup for pics. Hopefully I'll be able to try these out on Friday... Beadhead Pheasant Tail Hook - size 14 Mustad nymph Head - 1/8" gold bead, peacock herl, shiny plastic sheet (don't know what it's actually called) Body - pheasant tail and red copper wire Tail - pheasant tail Easy Red Copper John Hook - size 14 Mustad nymph Head - 1/8" gold bead, peacock herl Body - red copper wire Tail - duck biot Easy Red Copper John (Pheasant Tail) Hook - size 14 Mustad nymph Head - 1/8" gold bead, peacock herl Body - red copper wire Tail - duck biot
  19. I carry 3X, 5X, and 6X. 3X for the Bow (I mostly nympth), and 5X/6X for everywhere else (Highwood, Liv, creeks, and mountain lakes).
  20. Combat fishing... only fun if it's with your friends in the same hole. Does anyone else enjoy fishing shoulder to shoulder with their buddies casting for the same fish? I find that a hoot. I wonder what they would do if a fleet of tubers floated right through their run? haha. This is another reminder for us to be thankful that our "crowded" waters are really not that crowded.
  21. Wow, those are some sweet bulls. Awesome pics... you always seem to get the big hogs no matter where you go.
  22. The best rate I got was through my credit card. I was in the US when the CDN dollar was worth $1.01-1.02 US and my credit card gave me $1.00-1.01 US per CDN dollar. It's definitely worth it to always check the rates, as some are better than others.
  23. Gorgeous pics! Those are some big fish! I don't recognize that stretch one bit. I guess I'll have to keep exploring...
  24. I won a bunch of Air Miles, and even a $10 gift card from Safeway. There are times where the girl at the counter would give me a stack of them, and NONE of them would be winners. As for Tim's, just your usual donuts and coffee from the ol' rrrrrroll up the rim.
  25. Nice pics! I don't recognize that area one bit. Must be a great place!
