  1. Sweet fish and welcome to the guys with wives that flyfish club.
  2. Just got the Olympus Stylus 1030. Can't wait to use it!
  3. Those thingamabobbers are pretty cool!
  4. Following up on my broken 5 piece 7'6" 3/4 wt Redington Wayfarer rod that broke, I just got my rod in the mail, and lo and behold they gave me a new one. I now have a 6 piece 7'6" 4wt Redington Wayfarer with a new case. It only took a month to get replaced, which isn't too bad considering I've heard stories of people waiting months for other rods. Can't wait to try it out on the smaller streams and high mountain lakes!
  5. I've got a pair of oakley monster dogs which are very similar to them, and I love it. Buy them in the US though, they're a ripoff here. Excellent bang for the buck fishing sunglasses: polarized Rapalas from WalMart for $17. They are my backup sunglasses and have worked well for me.

    Finally

Nice cuttbow! Lotsa fun to catch. The willingness to take a dryfly like a cutt, but still fights like a bow.
  7. You should check out the Elbow River west of Calgary. It crosses Hwy 8 and 22, and also flows by Bragg Creek. All that water is within 30 minutes of Calgary and can be pretty good. Just make sure you're the first car there and you'll maximize your chances of having a good day.
  8. Nice! Keep'em coming!

    Micro Stones

Nice flies! They should also work on other SW Alberta streams.
  10. Not the best week for me, as I broke my rod tip on my 5 piece 3 weight, then lost my fly reel, and then broke the same 3 weight (used a replacement tip) right at the first connection on an overzealous roll cast. Thankfully I have a spare rod and a lifetime warranty on my broken one or I'd be going cazy. Argh! Now I have to lug around a larger rod for my backpacking trip this weekend...
  11. Welcome to the board Jim, I'm all for fixing the Allan Bill Pond to protect the fish population in the Elbow River. I've seen the quality of fishing decrease in the last 9 years on different parts of this river, so anything that can be done to help would be great. Not only would the restoration of Allen Bill re-introduce a nice stocked pond in a popular area, but it would also put less stress on conservation officers from constantly patrolling the area to try and protect the remaining bull trout who have since taken residence in the pond. This has also been forwarded to your email account as well.
  12. Hawg's points have worked for me, as I've been able to get my landing ratio up, especially on the larger fish. I love chasing fish down river when they run like that. It gets the blood flowing.
  13. Nothing else works for me but deep woods OFF. Gotta love that 30% DEET slow dissolving my skin...
  14. By the looks of the grass and the direction of flow, my guess would be about 20 feet upstream of the Burnsmead bridge, river right. Just a guess though.
  15. Are those pics taken right before they crap on your head? Nice crisp pics!
  16. Jayhad, Come July, there will be lots of awesome fishing in the foothills from Waterton right up north to Grande Prairie. Pick up Barry Mitchell's "Alberta's Trout Highway" and go wild. Keep at it and you WILL catch something over 12" well before October!
  17. I'm a chest pack guy and bought the Fish Pond Shooting Star. Check out their selection at http://www.fishpondusa.com/packs.cfm I kind of wished now that I got the Double Haul or High Country as they have a smaller pack on them, but I can easily clip off and use the chest pack on its own. As for vests, personally, I wouldn't go for any of the vests that have 2 huge pockets in the front.... It makes you look like you have 2 big saggy DDD's. I have a small net and I attach it to a small loop on the back with 2 small biners.
  18. I haven't fished up in the NW yet, but the water appears to have about 12" of visibility compared to 6" in the south. Looks tempting for sure...
  19. my wife snapped my st. croix 9ft 6 wt when she slipped and fell on it when we were fishing a lake. that was 2 years ago.
  20. Yup, awesome burgers at the saloon. I used to go there a lot when I worked in that area.
  21. Lefties rule!
  22. I think it's still worth fishing.. it's better than the other option. I might be over there for a few hours as well. Just use larger nymphs with a little flash along the banks, or streamers as you mentioned. Good luck!
  23. Temporary solution would be duct tape on the heels. It'll last for a day or so before it falls off.
