  1. Has anyone fished in the vibram streamtread soles yet? I have the old guide models and am thinking of upgrading, but would like a report
  2. She's gorgeous, so suddenly she's a goddess of fishing (not from the video's ive seen of her casting and fighting fish)..i'd rather talk to this lady any day of the week http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?showtopic=7945
  3. Orvis, Rushton, Brodin, Fisknat and many other hand made nets: all over 100 bucks, and far nicer nets then anything you'll get for less then a hundred bucks
  4. exactly. No statement of what the prize is, when the draw will be or where...pretty clever little way to get your name and email on their mailing list
  5. I can confirm that who ever told you that, is simply 100% incorrect

    very pretty brown...
  7. I posted the photo, as i did a quick google image search on V-Loop, and this is what came up. As i stated before, it's very hard to explain the hauling into the loop, but i've seen it done, and can do it (just not as consistently as a single hand haul...). perhaps i'm not correct in the way it works, but it seems to for me. My name is Jason J. Jones, which got me some flak right off the bat, as my name seems to be the same as a popular film maker on the forum, so i changed my login name, as i was giving him a 'bad name'. I've been spey casting for roughly 5 years, on and off, but do a week on the mainstem skeena, and occasionally get to the Copper and Kalum in september. Fished the thompson once, before i picked up a spey rod. My favourite spey is a 1409-T&T. I have fished in florida a bunch, and still findthis to be my favourite fishing. I fish montana in may, then head back to calgary to wait for the july stones. my favourite fly shop is Troutfitters, followed by Gord's, followed by cps. Would you like to know when i lost my virginity, or who my first kiss was as well? If you feel like questioning me, be a man and send me a pm. I don't even know who you are, so why question me *edit* Pkk sent me a very nice PM explaining himself. please disregard my nastiness. - Jason
  8. It works for most spey casts, and roll casts...with a double handed rod, it's forming a V loop, instead of a D (i find it odd that there is not one mention of this in any of the spey topics on this forum, for having such an advanced 'king'). Imagine your spey cast as a overhead cast, but instead of putting the line into the air, you're sweeping into a d-loop..same timing for your hauls. You haul down as you start your sweep of your rod tip to start the D loop, and bring your line hand back up to the handle as the d-loop is forming (the d will take this 'slack'). Your D is now formed, and procede with a normal 'turbo' spey....Its very hard to explain, and i probably explained it wrong..but it does work, trust me It takes a lot of work to figure it out, as the haul into your d loop adds line speed, so it will form more of a V then a D (it's compressed, and has a 'point', this has more speed and distance capable..but is certainly more on the advanced side of the scale)..you can also haul too much (or move the rod too aggressively) and turn that spey cast into a terrible overhead cast, as the anchor can not stick on the water.. practice your turbo spey, and have it down pat before bothering with this, otherwise you'll get frustrated. a v-loop
  9. Sorry if you took that the wrong way, you never said you weren't overhead casting! Once you figure out your single haul on the spey cast, you can do a double haul on the spey cast, by hauling line as you go into your d-loop, and hauling again as you 'release' it... 50 feet for a beginner single hand spey caster is nothing to scoff at!
  10. Sounds pretty sweet Courtney. I had the pleasure of chatting with you at the expo, should be neat having a snowbee dealer in town..definitely adds another line the city has never had are they gonna bring in Beulah?
  11. everyone is so fascinated with distance.. a lot of guys that fish Fish Creek will know the retired Asian fellow that always fishes down there..i don't think i've ever seen him cast further then 30 feet (has anyone?) and he catch's more fish than anyone i've ever seen... A 6 weight and an extra 6 inch's will not turn a 50 foot caster into a 70 foot caster, with no change in casting skill or technique. Practice your casting and you'll be able to cast much further then 50 ft, double hauls are your friend, tighten your loops and let it fly... *edit* Go talk to CP's about casting lessons, or just chat about how to double haul. Mike talked me through a double haul before my first time tarpon fishing (and he's one of the best casters around)....now i can't cast my 1 weight without throwing in a double haul, as they're so useful
  12. Do you even like this team, seems every response you make, no matter what they did, is that they're terrible and not knowing what they're doing.. do you forget that they're first in the NW, by a large margin? stop bitching already
  13. very, very cool and unique..well done
  14. would still love to hear a reply to the reasoning behind waiting till they get to Alberta to name the lake where they're fishing. Its not a hard place to get, and this forum alone has pushed hundreds of new fisher's that way (or so i believe anyway..)...just kinda peeve'd me off big time that they would do that....It'd be one thing if they did that for every body of water they fished...but not cool the way they did it
  15. i highly doubt it, I think Din has it that the older models have less room..
  16. I'd reccomend not doing anything with Gel yourself (at home anyway). Go to a fly shop and get it done for you. Gel needs to be put on the spool with a certain amount of tension, which is most easily done by a line-winding machine. If you don't have the tension, you will have the gel cut into itself on the first big pull that takes you into the backing. Are you sure its a III? http://www.orvis.com/intro_newwindow.asp?p...mp;subject=3550 they give u a ton more capacity then that. You should easily get 100 yds of 20 lb dac
  17. I've had these in my campers since i saw them, and have never looked back..one of the best purchases i've ever made ..nothing better then a jolt of caffeine before steelheading in october..or stonefly fishing in july!...or anytime in the wild really
  18. Odd, following your posts back, you've had very limited success in Alberta..and only one "30" bull to speak of (that you've posted anyway) and where you caught it, you certaintly don't need 15 feet of T14. Let us know where you're catching all these other 30+ inch fish, yet haven't posted any pics of Anyway, back to my argument about a 9 being a tid bit large I've caught my fair share of main stem skeena steelhead, with fish over 20lbs, on a 9 weight 14' spey rod (do you realise, that in a single hand setup, a 9 weight spey is equivalent to nearly a 16 weight single hand for pure power (going by grain weight)?)...I practice on the bow when i need to, and feel that the fish hit harder then most late season steelhead, but take all of 30 seconds to reel in...there is landing fish fast, then there is skipping them back to you.. Just my opinion...but then again, i don't catch more fish then everyone else on the river combined....so what do i know
  19. awesome post guys, made my day...
  20. Is this the same seminar that Country Pleasures held a month ago? Just wondering, would much rather stay home if the weather does what it's supposed to...if its the same as the CP one (sounds like it, he showed a lot of H&H's new product lines and tied his favourite trout flies)
  21. So, was it a 90 foot, or 100+... (note date of the quote above) was it a tiny speck rise, or a fin slicing the water? A difference one would think.. Sorry to stir the *hit, just bringing some further context to your post.. i think i need to fish more (and missing florida with the incoming weather report) Maybe i'll ask for a spey casting lesson once it warms up, if you'll still accept me Jason ps. My 9 foot 9 weight T&T can cast 90-100 feet all day long too...
  22. and a hundred plus foot cast huh
  23. You're telling me: that a fish of that size was rising in january, aka to midges, in choppy water (midges, mid-river and choppy water...odd) and yet making noticeable enough of a rise to be spotted at 100+ feet, as we all know, a big fish will make the smallest of rises....impressive eyes.. I get your opinion though, and i value your input. Guess i'm just one for feeling the fish fight, could be the time i've spent in Florida for tarpon, which i've caught on 9 weights, which is why i was a little taken aback from the line size previously mentioned BTW, pretty fish. 23"?
  24. doesn't the 9 weight spey make stupidly quick work of a 20" brown? Just wondering, as a 9 weight spey will beat a 30+" steelhead extremely quickly..
