  1. @Komp - Vision is a Finnish brand. I have been their customer for a few decades. Their design, product quality & price ratio has been good. I do not own an XLV, but I have been using their other reels. Except the cheapest (Deep), I would buy again. I rarely need to fight a fish long on the reel, though. Here on this side of the pond, they come straight to the net. (or not :)) So, my experience, you get what you pay for. YMMV.

    Wow, nice spotties! TFS.
  3. You got a head start! Here the ice just gone and now flooding. Right in the Nose! Good photo! Also, great colors on that rainbow fooled by SJW. That chicken (or is it a turkey) is golden! Mom, stand the chicken on an open (and full:)) beer can and bakes it in oven. Those are too yummy.
  4. I have been tying some caddis nymphs/pupae:
  5. That was the first photo of the net retriever I have found. Indeed, I carry my net this way. Much easier to reach. You can make a net retriever from old telephone cable if they do not have them.
  6. Magnetic netholders are pretty strong. Only if it catches in bushes or branches, will it release the net. However, you should have a net retriever (or just a simple cord) attached to the hook on the end of the handle (and to your fanny packs belt or wader's belt) or like here (but to the fanny pack).
  7. My favorite is the Mr Cutt photo. The crystal clear water and light "stripes" make it special.
  8. My recent tie of a fry imitation:
  9. Wow, great pics BobLoblaw! I really dig these two:
  10. My "Fly-fishing through the glass" photobook is now displayed and sold here: http://www.blurb.com/books/4044450-fly-fishing-through-the-glass Take a look at the preview and order a print if you like it.
  11. Cool photos! I like that after (or before) storm dark river photo (freestone) and the cast (jksnijders) I too like to take photos of the rivers, habitat, and fish food.
  12. Good photos and nice places you visited, Xplorer! That is a pretty good camera considering the size and price. I miss summer, as well. Oh well, only 4 months to go.
  13. Nice to see some green photos at this time of the year, Pepper. Thanks for sharing.
  14. At first browse, I managed to overload my visual sensors and needed to take a brake. When, I returned and took my time to go through the photos, I truly enjoyed the show. Beside the fish close-ups, my favorites are the mountain landscape shots (and that hilly road disappearing in the horizon). Thanks for sharing!
  15. Pretty much still a problem! The best view can be achieved putting one's head into the water so one can look at the LCD perpendicularly. Not that easy when one fishes alone. I wish they start to produce also UW cameras with flip-out LCDs.
  16. Hi Connie, I have been shooting with generations of Pentax waterproof cameras and I like them. IMO, most UW cameras perform poorly in low light conditions. My Pentax makes brilliant UW photos when the lighting is good (and water is clear). It is also related to ISO, which at and over 400 results in low quality/noisy photos. The Olympus TG-1 iHS received some great reviews and due to the expandability options it is a promising camera(a bit more expensive though). One advantage of this camera is its fast lens (f2.0). http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/...sp?product=1621
  17. Really nice handle! What length did you choose?

    Latest Trips.

Great Steven! I was sorry that I had only such a limited time for fly-fishing when I was "living" in AB. These photos makes me even more to go back and fish for a month or more. Thanks for sharing!
  19. With some guys from my fishing club we had the chance to fish this awesome river and search for brown trout (Taimen in Finnish). Conditions were not ideal, due to the flooding river(lots of snow this year). Also, bleak (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Bleak) migration to the rivers did not start, which is followed by trout moving to the rivers. So, they were late or we were early. We still managed to land 7-8 trout and loose some "obviously" larger ones. Early, on the trip I caught one and then none. Fortunately, when fishing turns less exciting, I can go and take some photos. I hope you enjoy them: Click here for full screen slideshow mode.

    My 2011

Great photos and year, Buck! Thanks for sharing.
  21. Indeed, early mornings and late evenings are often best for both photog & fishing and one might give up some fish for great photos, like these! Check out Mike's site, as well: http://www.mikekempimages.com/

    A Few Pic's

Fishing photos are always a joy (especially liked the second one; bow in clear water), but those other critters are great, as well! Thanks for sharing, Gary.
  23. What would you like to see in a fishing photography book? I am writing a photography book for fishermen. It is already in good shape. Lots of tips and techniques how to take great photos and enjoy fishing. E.g: How to take photos when fishing alone How to handle fish What could be a better composition Why is it blurry Why are the colors dull How to tackle challenges of underwater photography What accessories may help in fishing photography etc. What would you like to learn from a fishing photography book?
  24. Fantastic shots and places, Dave and Amelia! I especially like the warm colored fish-closeup (the one by your leg over the net) and the "minifisherman" in front of the mountain.
