That is quite a deal looking from the other side of the pond...

For all you fly-fishing and photography enthusiasts, Pentax announced its new waterproof model Optio W90 (successor of the great W80 model). I think the led lights are a nice touch for us macro photographers... DPR - Pentax Optio w90 From DPR: "Pentax has released the Optio W90 rugged compact sporting a tougher body than its predecessor, the W80. It is designed to be dustproof, waterproof up to 6 meters, coldproof down to -10°C (14°F) and shock-resistant for drops of up to 1.2 meters. An interesting Digital Microscope mode claims to deliver magnified images of tiny objects aided by three LED lights in front of the lens barrel. The camera features a 12MP sensor, 28-140mm equivalent lens, 2.7" LCD and includes HD video recording and pet detection that apparently 'makes it simple and effortless to capture the delightful faces of active pets.'" When you got one, post some photos here.

Some people put bandage on their thumb and index finger. I like to these flies in rotating vise, as then you only need to grab the wire and it also loads the shank more evenly.

Superb. Thanks for sharing! I love macros. These photos mostly have shallow DOF and smooth bokeh, so I assume you shoot with a dSLR. Do you use a special macro lens? What model? I'd love to get a Canon EF 100 2.8L IS, but it seems to be out of my league.

I did not get if you were looking for a local shop (I bought them in a Calgary downtown shop that is right beside a photo shop, sorry can't recall the name). If link is sufficient, here it is: http://www.theessentialfly.com/fly-fishing...-indicator.html

Awesome. Nice little fellows. I really like the torpedo shape they have. They must be great on a light rod.
-
Just my 2 cents, if you wade in rocky waters, need to climb steep hill-sides, or walk on ice, you should consider studs (with the rubber sole).
-
Wow. That is a deep fish. Congrats.

Some nice shots, Jay. I certainly like that clear UW shot and the shallow DOF rod shot. I wish Canon was a bit more creative with the name, they already had a 10D dSLR... so D10 is a bit confusing. They could have gone as far as UW10. What do you think is the strength of this camera? BTW, Eagleflyfisher, as I recall Max posted a link about modification of the Pentax Optio, so that you can add filters/lens. Mine is still under warranty, so I am not planning to modify it.

New Humblefisherman Video
Bandi replied to humblefisherman's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Great videos, Jay. I loved the view from the chopper, though I think the quality was much better with the door open (thank you guys taking the risk). It seems you fished some lighter tackle. What class rods did you use? -
Superb shots and fish. My fav is the wideangle (bighead;)) shot. Thanks for sharing.

Yep, that is the beauty of the 1cm macro, very shallow DOF. You could also try normal macro with full optical zoom on. That is right. When i take outdoor macros with this P&S, often the body (housing) drops shadow on the subject, so I need change position or change to normal macro and move farther.

I think one of Pentax WXX series' strength is extreme macro. However, it takes some shots to get it right. Often you need more light than you think. Use extra light source, like soft flash, table lamp, etc. Be sure to support your hands, as small movements will blur the photos. The closer you are to the subject and longer the lens (zoom in), the more it throws out of focus the background. Check that when you push half-way the exposition button, the focus limiter changes to green, then push the button all the way down. Sorry, if this all obvious for you. Keep on trying because these are great point-and-shoot cameras.

Awesome shots (yellow fall leaf on the rock, mountains in the background) and handsome pink-cheek. Looks like you had great fun out there. Another Loop fan, eh.

Nice chunky intruder flies Max. It looks I need to get some good feathers. Thanks for step-by-step instructions/pics.

Great shots guys. I specially like the "dutch tilt" reflection and FlyFusion boat/raft pics. I miss Calgary and the Bow (not the cold, though!). It's been already a year ago that I fished there.

Do not give up, but rise to the challenge. There are many Zonkers that imitate baitfish. You could do better than Rapala (and I am from Finland. ). Tie your own flies, get your confidence and go out couple of times with some guys from the forum. Even good attractor flies do not move fish from 3m away. You need to find those hot spots! Also, there any ways to fish streamers, so vary your techniques and depth. Keep on trying and you will soon hook that fish. Tight lines!

_Off topic_ I own both Sage's and Vision's intro rods, and Sage is nowhere close to Vision. ) Sage launch is heavier and inferior in casting... You are right, Loop is completely different category. My two cents... _On topic_

The Pentax Optio W80 is out. To be fair, I hear similarly good feedbacks about Olympus waterproof models.

Looks like a sick summer. Did you sleep, at all? (I recall "life is too short...") I envy guys for those bulls. We have to do with northern pikes... But most of all, I still miss the scenery of Alberta! Great shots, regarding this, too.

Great shots, Beadhead. I like fish pics, but when mixed with nature shots, that is even better. Good job. Let me know if you post more to somewhere else, like FaceBook, Photobucker, etc. Here, this was the last weekend before clsoed period starts for all salmonoids, I guess I am back to tying some more of those flies that just simply outperformed others. As I heard weather is hot in Calgary, so huys enjoy it. Go out, hike, and fish!

It is brown, IMO. Tail fin should not be much spotted, halos around the spots, and shorter mouth.

Yes, search the forum. Note, that are many techniques for streamer fishing, like up and across, swing, down, different retrieves: long pulls, short pulls, figure of eight, etc. Read the topics here than go and experiment. I often find that what works in one place does not work in another. Also, there are places, where I catch fish only with the same technique, like casting up and dead drifting. So you need to find what fish look for. Be sure to use stiff enough leaders to be able to turn over streamers. When it does not work, add weight first, change streamer later.

Awesome shots, WesG. I especially like the macros. What camera/lens do you use for those? The silky flow of the river is also a great capture. Thanks for sharing.

Good pics GGP and nice fish! I especially like the first shot.
