  1. Sounds like the way Alberta used to be before EVERYBODY showed up!! . Seriously, sounds like a great day. Regards Mike
  2. Sun You're just turning this into a personal attack against me. This is becoming a Monty Python type discussion, -- yes it is, no it isn't, yes you are, no I'm not-- and so on. I think it's best to say we disagree and leave it at that. Hopefully, no hard feelings either way. Regards Mike
  3. Well, if you want to put words in my mouth; You forgot to mention Urban sprawl, Forest Industry, Dams, Mines and the list goes on. It's not a question of what is being done as much as how we are doing it. If you can't see the difference, I cannot help you. Regards Mike
  4. Ya know Sun, the thing that pi$$es me off is the multinationals, ERCB and our own Government treat us like fools. You know- don't worry we have everything under control, everything is fine, we're environmentally responsible, etc. They spend millions on spindoctors to spew out garbage that even I -with no background in the industry- can see is bulls**t. If you're going to pillage and plunder the land, at least have the balls to admit it and say what the consequences are. The Oilsands are a done deal; there is no stopping the development, but at least let Albertans know what the environmental cost was. Regards Mike
  5. Another viewpoint http://www.cpaws-sask.org/common/pdfs/Deat...ousand_cuts.pdf Regards Mike
  6. Great link, it helped alot in understanding SAGD. But now the song " Don't worry be happy" keeps running thru my head. Regards Mike
  7. If the U.S. decides that the oilsands is dirty oil, what then? Do we slow down and let the industry clean up their act or do we sell to countries that aren't so picky? Is shale gas development any cleaner and more enviromentally friendly? Tough questions and I don't think anybody is supplying honest answers. Regards Mike
  8. Hmmm, that didn't come out quite like I intended. Rather than try and fix it, I'm better off to let the hijack die. Regards Mike
  9. Hey FFF The reason the Libs have made more mistakes than the Cons is that have they have formed more govts; in more provinces than the Cons could ever dream. In Alberta, the current govt is looking more and more like the old Social Credit Party-dinosaurs- and all It will take is a charismatic leader to oust them. Anyways, it's no fun arguing politics unless you're face to face with a bottle of single malt or dark rum on the table and knives and guns are checked at the door. Of course if you're a Canadian discussing American Politics this isn't necessary- Right Rick Regards Mike
  10. Edited my post; note to self: Must proof read more gooder!! Regards Mike
  11. Well seeing as how Rickr " dragged us into the mud" LOL When I hear the fear-mongering about the Liberals, I wonder if any party could do a worse job than the CONSERVATIVES of managing: Our Resources Our Environment Our Health Care Our Education and just about anything else you care to mention. Regards Mike The guy poking with the pointy stick!!
  12. I read a post by the N.A Rep for Mustad, who said that not all circle hooks are suitable for fly tying. Circle hooks are designed for bait fishing and most have a long point and narrow gap that doesn't work well for tying flies. His recommendations in the Mustad line are: 39951 BLN C51S BLN C71S SS Regards Mike
  13. I've never used circle hooks, but I hear they significantly cut down on foul hooking-- so much so that I believe they are mandatory for salmon fishing in California. If you tie some up let us know what you think. Maxwell's tip on a delayed strike is the part that takes getting used too. Regards Mike
  14. Advisory from SRD http://alberta.ca/acn/200907/26590C2C3DCA4-9DDF-CB57-832170F5F31ED1E8.html# Regards Mike
  15. Stand upwind...DAMHIKT. Regards Mike
  16. There are only 3 manufacturers of batteries in North America- Exide, Delco and Johnston Controls. They make batteries for everybody, so if the specs are the same the batteries are the same regardless of price. Try and get the freshest batteries you can- they are all dated as to date of manufacture Regards Mike
  17. Here's another question: What happens if the guess is right and people did cause Global Warming? What if spending a few Billion would have made the difference? If we can give Wall Street a Trillion, can't we spend a few bucks on Green Street. What do we tell the next generation-- OOPs, sorry about that? Regards Mike
  18. I tried in a WF4F on a 7 '6" rod. It seemed a little light like somewhere between a 3 and 4 wt. It was one of the original lines and had the stickiness problems. I found it cast just fine and didn't notice any problems with the tip sinking. The color does look nice against bamboo. Still love my Cortland Peach tho. Regards Mike
  19. Well no matter how you slice it both The Oilers and Flames are LOSERS. Time for a wakeup call for both teams. BTW the Hawks won tonite hands down.
  20. Hi Don, I think you can have it both ways. Sorta like the Angel's share in distilling Scotch. Regards Mike
  21. Thanks Harps, I couldn't agree more!! Regards Mike
  22. Well, I'm not sure what the moisture levels are down south, but up here we could sure use the the moisture. A week of rain would be a good thing!! Regards Mike
  23. I think they like golf better than hockey. Sigh.... Regards Mike
  24. This thread got me thinking about soft-hackles, so I ordered some Partridge dyed various colors and some Pearsall silk thread. I'll tie up something for pot hole lakes and the streams in central Alta. Regards Mike
