  1. HEY! I got malt!!
  2. adc mentioned that the Fisheries Mgt Branch has drafted a "quality fisheries" policy that provides for two "special reg" waters per zone. i.e. Bullshead, Muir and Beaver. I uploaded a PDF of the draft and you can download it. NOTE...this is the DRAFT that we were given in Edmonton in October. May have changed a bit. DRAFT quality fisheries policy..click here.
  3. Nice work adc. We should fish together some day. Was nice to see folks like Rick and many (many) here write letters of support. It will be interesting to see how the lake and fish respond to the regs.....and just how the campground will fill up. It WILL take dedicated use to keep the regs in place. But if it's anything like Bullshead it will be here forever.
  4. Nice eye Don. I am not sure if Sandy will accept your excuse for being out fishing all the time though ...
  5. At least one tarpon (of any size) in Cuba and mucho large bonefish One 48-inch pike One 40-inch pike on a 'dryfly' Take "Little Mike" to "The Weir" At least one 26-inch rainbow somewhere Fish Bullheads on three days without wind .. (Well I can dream can't I?) Fish with the grandkids more than last year Stay at the trailer lot near Pincher long enough so the neighbors here in town will wonder if maybe we moved Take way too many pictures of anything outdoors .. fishing and otherwise Out fish adc more than he out fished me in 06 and 07 Push adc into The Weir in late October if I fail ... just for the helluva it! (Camera in hand of course!) Fish Police once in the fall to get a handle on spring '09 ... assuming we get the reg change. .. with power to add to the list as the year unfolds.
  6. Hey Lynn .. and now yer an ichthyophile and blingophile.
  7. Dubbing on the Hoof.
  8. Here's a rod for you guys....about 22 feet... Larry (in pic) is not much short of 6 ft. These are used for river fishing with bait. A bit hard to pack in the suitcase. Somewhere in Inner Mongolia '04 ...
  9. Nice stuff Lynn ...
  10. This is probably way to far for you folks in Calgary--at least 3 hours. There's a hard-water angler here in Coaldale who goes to Sherburne Reservoir two or three times each week just for perch. They typically keep 10-inch perch (big) and yesterday were throwing back 11 and 12-inch perch as they got into some huge ones. Don't have details of exactly where they go and get on, but could get. They use a single maggots (versus married I guess) on small "Swedish Pimple" hooks--geez I think that's what he called them.
  11. Well said Don. It seems that we all agree. "but I fish to catch fish." Yeah me too, I love hanging a difficult trout--and stoopid ones too. If I could not catch fish, I'd not fish. But if it was only about fish, I'd not fish. Happy everything! ... and no group hugs!
  12. I'm so old I should remember all of that stuff ... 'cept I'm so old, I forget. History of FF is cool. History of a lot of stuff is cool. Thanks.
  13. Agree with everything. There are many reasons why we fish. I love to hook fish, but without wanting to seem like a wuss, the fish are in merely an excuse for the other stuff. I wrote this article nine years ago .. and it all applies. I wrote that when my fishing partner was in hospital and I was feeling a bit down--he passed away 3 months later. There's a short piece in ths article that sums it all up for me. As I see it there are at least four reasons to fish: the anticipation, the actual experience, the memories, and the friendships we develop as the seasons come and go. If it were not for the memories of our experiences and the bonds we develop, why would we fish? Y'all have a swell Christmas.
  14. Well we've seen trout trying to leap up Lundbreck Falls--obviously to no avail. My take on this is that the fish are being dumped in and that the story is bogus. We don't know the structures involved. Fish naturally swim into a current and I think that's what they are doing as they are dumped into the second pond. It could be real--but I'd not bet a new rod on it. Also consider the physical attitude of all of the fish in the picture... ALL the same ... when in fact trout trying to jump upstream are in all manner of shapes and positions as they "flip" to get up. Look at all 3 trout in the stream. They could only be IN the stream if flowing with the stream downward and have such a common trajectory. The probability of that happening is low at best. Actual jumps are too random--see below. I think it is HIGHLY improbable that all four trout would be lined up just so in such a small stream I think it is bull. It was published in a British newspaper (The Telegraph) but you can also read that "Geo Bush is having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles" in an English newspaper too--which I'd say is more probable. This is really bugging me...I just spent ten minutes looking at salmon and trout leaping up waterfalls and fish ladders. They are rarely IN the water as two of these four fish are. Further on the trajectory shown. It's all too neat. At least half of the fish I saw leaping up falls were basically vertical--not at a 45° angle. The lower three fish are already at a 45° and would not get very far--surely they'd not have enough kinetic energy to get another two feet in the SAME line. Physics and gravity ain't like that. Fish instinctively leap upward (like the Crowsnest trout at the Falls) but they really don't know where the are going--if they knew where they were going they'd sure as hell not try to get up Lundbreck falls. These fish have no idea that the water flow is coming out of small spout. Bogus. 99.99 %
  15. "what purpose would a regression analysis serve on this poll?" Absolutely none ... just like the apple pie chart. RA not suited to discrete data like these ... it just sounds so cool. A silly pole needs a silly result. And even after all of those '8 minutes' ... winter has still not arrived.
  16. One assumes she had to change the water after that.
  17. Gonna be a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooog winter.
  18. Wiki is not always accurate... According to this we sell about 1% of the world's arms. Note the low figure for China. That number is based on $5/day labor or free labor of done by the army.
  19. "anybody know why Canada has become the world's 6th largest arms supplier?" $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ But I'd guess that the gap between 1, 2, 3 and #6 is huge. Anyone have the numbers?
  20. To satisfy everyone's need for more information--and at great personal sacrifice--adc and I are going to the Bay of Pigs on March 2, 2008. We will do intensive ground investigations and report back. We've been advised that we will be doing intense reconnaissance in La Salinas in small two-man skiffs armed with 8-wt fly rods. Will advise.
  21. No offence to rickr, et al. I hope that the USA never changes its approach to Cuba. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen. As soon as Fidel goes to the big ashtray in the sky, things will change in a couple of years and Cuba will be open once more.
  22. "Ya.....it's more of a young folks' band" RIGHT! Grandma!
  23. Substitute a SkiDoo or quad .. and could be in the Great White North. As a person of age who is bladder challenged, I think the cop was out of line cuffing the poor bugger when he had to pee.
  24. Clyde: Just hilarious. Great imagination and great tie. Thanks. Clive
  25. Very nice flies..and that's serious. Cheeler that BAW is cool. This is not ... my C'mas sentiment pattern.
