  1. Weedy1 It is just a matter of starting from scratch, designing a simple outline of the mayfly and filling in parts of the wings and body in the colors and stitch design as desired. But that takes time and I won't even think of doing it. (Hell, I ain't even that good at it, although I've make a few fishing theme designs on the embroidery software. It can take a few hours to start from scratch when, like me, one does not use the software often.) Dave ... that is my drawing and you are welcome to use it as a line-drawing base to take to a stitchery designer. Main thing as you know is: KISS. Clive
  2. Generally, yes. This is a tad of a sideways jag and a bit of a rant. A guide from another province (I didn't even say BC ... ) can make $500 per day guiding his clients an NOT PAY ONE CENT in licenses, fees or taxes in Alberta! A guide from somewhere else (I didn't even say BC again ... ) who does not fish does not even need a fishing license!! It is simply bullshit. Guides make money from the resources that my tax dollars protect--such as it is. Why should I subsidize his business? It is simply wrong.
  3. Weedy1..it's the damn lines in the may's wings. Imagine that at one inch high .. too much detail. The BF pattern changes are several stitches wide. I can try to "embroiderize" the image and run a test on my wife's machine. Not today.
  4. This is "Kelt Extended" The may really is too detailed for embroidery. I vunder vot pipples mit lifes do un za Friday nites, ja?
  5. Rick, I cheated. Recycled an old one. You upstream or down in that arrangement? Clive This is one of Woody's sketches with a small tattoo added for the FFC logo. Thanks Woody.
  6. That's why I bought a President ... for Cuba ... 114 more sleeps. Buddy used a President when we were in Belize last Feb. Is okay for the chuck.
  7. I was just being a smartass. Some of the REAL PT patterns shown here are GREAT! Seriosuly nice patterns. Thanks. Clive
  8. Fly tying made simple .... Pheasant tail ... Caddis larva ... Crowsnest Bugger ...
  9. You should be able to get on on eBay for $125 or less. There's a guy down South who seems to have an unending supply of Trions and Preidents. I got a 2090 a couple of months back but have yet to line it.

  13. In August 1993, I wet waded in the River Tuul SE of Ulanbator -- had a spare afternoon--and tried for lenook for 45 minutes before getting cold--not like the local in the picture. Had a couple of bumps on a beadhead nymph. A kid and his dad caught a couple of lenooks. I looked in his "tackle box" and he had some huge handmade plugs and I said, "Taimen" he he smiled back at me and held his arms about 4 feet apart. Was funny.
  14. Well. I got more out of that exchange than I do from Maxwell's posts!
  15. "your pictures alway look so....real" We always strive for truth in reporting and in published pictures!! Take Bono for instance. PLEASE, take Bono .... away. And who would doubt this?
  16. Geez, eh?! Looks like Bono. He was in Canada advising old Dave Suzuki and Little Stevie Harper on environmental matters, so he stopped by Timmies for a DD and fished the Bow ... or so I heard. Could be wrong
  17. Digital sensors are most important, but good glass is more important. My selection is middle high-end, but not top drawer--I've a couple of ED/APO/SP lenses. I lust for a f2.8 300 mm but they are (ready for this!!??) ... $6,900!
  18. I agree with Erik on most points. You can't go wrong with Nikon .. I am NOT Nikon because I've been a Minolta for 39 years. So went Minolta and now the Sony a700, 12MP. Kit lenses tend to be lower quality no matter whose they are. Buy better Q zooms or primes. I've five lenses...none were "kit." The 2X crop factor (a poor use of the word "crop"... nothing is cropped ... WYSIWYG) means the sensor is SMALLER...not a good thing from a Q perspective!! You can't go wrong with Nikon ... You can't go wrong with Nikon ... Ida gone Nikon DSLR had I not so many good Minolta lenses. Get at least one fast lens if you plan on some low light images. I've a Minolta 100-mm macro, f2.8 which is top-end glass and most handy in low light. You might consider a 50-mm f1.4 or 1.7... Ka-ching! Don't discount all Tamron lenses--I once did. Some are top-drawer. I purchased a Tam SP 24-135, 18 months ago based on another's advise. It is first-rate glass. It was $700 here ... less from NY where I purchased it. I understand the current DSLR Live View screens are a bit iffy and some manufacturers are staying away from them because of this...waiting till they make 'em better. However ... not sure what your camera background is. I've been peering thru an eyepiece for well over 40 years and see little use in a live screen. Welcome to the world of DSLRs. This is cosmic technology. Clive
  19. Sorry I missed....thought I was done after the "Pale green antron" which I added several months back. Hook: Mustad 94840 #14 Thread: Light Olive Tail: Pale green antron Middle section of body: Fluorescent Pink Floss (middle 1/3) Body: light olive ice dubbing. Dubbed lightly over hotspot Mid-wing: bleached deer hair wing tied over mid point Hackle (rear): under sized light blue dun tied in at tail and palmered over body to the mid-wing Front hackles: one each grizzly and cinnamon Front Wing: White and Dun CDC tied caddis style over hackle Okay this fly now has the mass of two black holes, so my contribution is ... Whip finish TADA!
  20. Sounded like you were disappointed in rickr's post about cars v cats ...
