  1. thanks wolfie but i honestly need something in writing that specifically says handling a fish by the gills will kill it. or maybe someone has a first hand experience? c'mon people many fishes lives are at stake!
  2. could someone please tell me the damage that occurs when a large fish is picked up out of the water with one hand by the gill? i have a friend who doesn't believe me that he's probably killing the fish. something from a biologist or something comparable that i could forward to him may help. thanks
  3. huey lewis of huey lewis and the news. it's hip to be square.

    Hahaha

my buddy sent me this picture he took at the north ram on the weekend. he said it was the first pool east of the trunk road. i was just there and didn't see ANY trucks in the river...saw a few quads though anyone else witness this? or better yet, anyone know how it happened? wonder how much trouble it was to get it out since there isn't any road access to that particular spot.
  6. shoulda tried the crack, some people really like it...
  7. haha-eye for an eye-that's always the answer. problem solved.
  8. i just returned from a classified river in bc and saw 7 cars parked at various points...6 were albertan. there's no way you see that kind of ratio of bc plates on alberta rivers, do you? a classified water system in alberta wouldn't bring in the same kind of money as it does in bc...unless you ding the americans real good for fishing the bow. i voted #1.
  9. i was checking out a stream on google earth today looking for access points and corners and what-not and noticed gps co-ordinates. does anyone on the board use a handheld gps device to find certain sections of rivers? is this worthwhile? any preference on model/make?
  10. i have a friend who has some property with a lake on it but it has no fish in it. he looked into getting it stocked but the province would charge him ALOT of money to do it. i suggested he do it himself. i heard a story of some guy dumping a bucket of perch into celestine lake in jasper many years ago and it's teeming with fish. is it just that easy? how long would a bucket full of perch live during transport? is this even legal? (obviously the jasper situation wasn't). thoughts?
  11. i have a garmin but it couldn't find lakes or dirt roads. works good for finding my way around calgary.
  12. sorry guys. what i failed to mention in my original post was that this rec site (in bc) is free to stay at. that's what makes me mad. if all those guys paid for their spot it would be a different story. now i guess the rule is you can stay for 14 consecutive days but if i had dropped off my trailer on april 30th to ensure i had my spot on may 13th and others couldn't camp because of that, well that would make me a jerk. i guess that's my point. just because it's not illegal doesn't make it okay. i could run my chainsaw from 7:01 am until 10:59 pm and although i wouldn't be breaking the law, my neighbor would probably think i'm a jerk. and rightfully so.
  13. anyone encounter any jerks this weekend? i worked this weekend but took wednesday thursday off instead. when i arrived at the rec site i was going to camp at, it was FULL. i've never seen it full before. it was full but there was not a soul around. people had driven their trailers there and dropped them off so they would have a spot friday night. jerks. i turned around and went home.
  14. that first one is the nicest fishing photo i've seen in a long time, well done.
  15. i like to add a few drops of grenadine to the dirty panties recipe...
  16. so i bought some phil rowley quick release indicators but i'm having trouble figuring out how they work. anyone?
  17. in bc if a stream is designated "fly fish only" it means no indicators or split shot, no choice but to learn.
  18. thanks for the replies all, i like the look of the springbrook pram with the optional second seat. now, where to get one?
  19. looking to buy a lightweight boat that i can lift onto the roof of my vehicle myself. i have a pontoon boat but would like something my dogs can sit in with me. the only thing i've heard of is the frog boat. anyone have one of these? anyone have something like it?
  20. you could try "angling in the shadow of the canadian rockies" by jeff mironuck. it calls itself 'a complete guide to fishing in southern bc and ab', and while it's not quite on par with barry mitchell's book, it's pretty good. i've read alot of fishing books and nothing compares to the trout highway, that book changed my life.
