  1. pretty sweet. wish they woulda showed a trout jumping in slow mo at the end of the kids line though!!
  2. the way the price of gas is going, save it for local fishing trip expenses this summer.
  3. I really like your vids they capture a really true essence of the sport. It's about more than the fish and you show that well.
  4. You adjusted for the circumstances, did all you could to present a fly to this fine trout, and succeeded. Call it a freekin awesome job!

wait, do I see Diamond head in the background there? Are you fishing near the Honolulu airport? That would be my two loves in one! Airplanes and fish!
  6. did one of those last year to a certain creek really close to home. Funny thing was it had fished very well before for me, and in the past 5 or 6 times it's been relatively dead. Left me wondering, for sure.
  7. Then I did not really get out much until the fall, when I spent over a week with my best friend fishing and telling tall tales around a campfire. Managed a surprise Bull Trout while fishing cutts. Then some good cutt fishing! A couple more days were spent on other waters *pictures removed from here on down* I can't wait to get out for my first fish of 2014! I hope you enjoyed the pictures.
  8. Then I was able to cross one off the bucket list thanks to some good friends in Red Deer, with my very first RDR brown. Next up was a ton of days on my home stream after the opener
  9. I figured I should share my year with you all, it was a good one! I did a LOT less fishing, started a new job, and became "busy" with life but the few times I did get out made it all the more sweet to be on the water. First trip of the year was to the old stomping grounds!! It was a good day, decent fishing and great company. Second trip was a surprising April visit to another stream where I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of fish this year. so long buddy thanks for the ride!!!
  10. Southfork was a total blast when I went up there. Definitely on my to do list again. Heck of a hike, but worth it
  11. Vagabond you'll get no argument from me on that. But to say that perhaps you could take a 3WT out there and apply 11.9lbs of pressure on a 12lb tippet - well I'd say you might actually snap the 3WT first. Also jest sayin' EDIT: Oh, I might have misunderstood what you were saying there above. I think we're trying to say the same thing. So long as you can apply the same pressure to the fish, what's a rod size matter at all? Put the gears to the fish like you mean it! Get it in quickly for a nice release!
  12. BiggyJ, I just had a friend who was over in Thailand return early due to terrorism activity that beheaded some 20-odd tourists very close to where they were. I'd NOT recommend that at this time myself, but you may have some different info. Just a shout out.. if you didn't know. Political unrest and all..
  13. yeah! me too! First nice weekend I am free is going to see me hitting the crow
  14. Your one paycheck is 4k??? Any job openings??? Seriously if I had 4k right now I'd probably look for a used jet boat. A really loud one that makes a huge wake.
  15. well maybe a "within reason" disclaimer" should go on that!
  16. There ya go! A fellow toad hunter not afraid to whip out a 3WT when it's needed. I use 5X or 4X tippet on my 3WT when toad huntin' so I can bully them on the way in after I hook them up. I just use the light rod and fly line to avoid that line splash that even the best 5wt cast will make. Of course you'll get the haters that say you can't fight fish on a 3WT as fast as a 5WT I say bull____. In fact you'd bust more fish off using the same tippet with a 5wt than you will with a 3wt, and be able to put MORE pressure on a fish during the fight because the rod tip on a 3wt will absorb a lot more of the shock. I see people gently nursing fish in on their 5wt's all the time, taking a helluva long time to land a dry fly fish. Not me buddy! I'll go toad huntin with you anytime.
  17. No one has mentioned any lakes yet, but do some site searching on Bullshead Reservoir. Opens up on April 1st (provided the ice is off) and can provide some really nice shore fishing with a fly rod for a couple of months until the weeds are too thick. Down south in my neck of the woods Police Lake (Open April 1 as well) is fairing well and fishing well, but you nearly need a pontoon to fish it though there is "ok" fishing from the island and a walk up the north shore. There is also chain lakes that is a real good fishery if you just need to have a riot sometimes.. tons of small ones and the odd monster will surprise you. Lower Kananaskis Lake should be noted as well, it can be a good place to hook into a large bull trout on the fly especially in the spring. Hope that helps.
  18. Why are we assuming he'd only be in a cutty stream fishing 12" fish with a 3WT? (did I miss it and he actually said so?). Maybe he needs a good reel to let line out smoothly fishing for some easily spooked toads somewhere.
  19. Whoa. Ok so the issue is this forum does not like Internet Explorer one bit. Good to know. I hate google with a passion, but if I get the urge to post pics I guess I'll have to use it
  20. just tried again. what I do is click on the little picture frame icon above, and it says enter url. I paste a URL into the box and hit OK. Nothing happens and it locks up my Internet Explorer entirely. I have to exit the browser and restart to come back to browsing on the forum.
