  1. personally, i hope that your meeting to have all random camping banned fails...i don't want to lose my canadian right to enjoy crown land as a result of a minority population that abuse the right...rather than trying to ban it, why not try to get more enforcement/licensing into effect...my two cents...
  2. i hate you max...
  3. that might fall into the heavy exertion category ...glad to hear you're doing good and recovering jim...take care...
  4. atta boy neil...way to git-r-done....
  5. everyone knows that alberta fly fishers are tough as nails...no way this can set you back jim...hope things get better soon for ya and that you can get back to your fishing asap...
  6. after all the duking out the competitors did, it came down to two great patterns...after all the dust had settled, one pattern stood up above the other...congratulations to the 2008 King Of The Vise Champion : clyde ...to the victor goes the spoils...i will be in touch shortly...enjoy the prizes my friend...thanks again to all the tiers that made this possible and to entertain the masses throughout the winter...see you in the next tying season...
  7. to all those that are curious...i'm in the process of getting calendars made with the proceeds to support the OM Streamwatch...if everything goes as planned, i'll have them ready by sept/oct sometime...i figure i sell a calendar for $5-$10 a piece, then even if i can get 20 to buy, it'll put a couple hundred into the program...
  8. well, this is it boys and girls...the last poll you have to see until the fall...it's been an awesome year and i want to thank everyone who has voted, participated, and contributed comments throughout the course of the winter...now we get to focus on the fishing of these patterns...so without further ado, the final round of the 2008 King Of The Vise...voting for this round should be based on the requirements set forth : use of the two materials (which both did), realism (which both did), and creativity (which both did)...so have fun trying to choose a winner between these two... Pattern #1 Pattern #2

    A Few Pics

ya gettin tha maxwell homie g thang down fo sheezy son...
  10. 7. Fold the thin skin over the top of the thorax dubbing (leave a slight overhang over the abdomen) and tie down. 8. Once tied down, pull the thin skin tightly back and wrap a few thread turns over it to secure the thin skin. 9. Dub a second thick ball covering the remaining thorax and create a second wingcase as you did in Step 7. Trim the remaining thin skin off, cover the excess with thread, and dub a thin collar over the thread wraps. Whip finish behind the bead, clip off thread, and cement. 10. Using a needle or a dubbing teaser (velcro on a popsicle stick), pick out the dubbing from the thoracic dubbing balls to form legs. The finished fly.
  11. Simple Stone (As Tied by Andrew Burla) This pattern is almost identical to a Kaufmann's Stone with the exception of the wingcases. Kaufmann's Stone uses lacquered turkey quill for the wingcases whereas I like to substitute Thin Skin for the turkey. Not only is it more durable, but it my opinion, it looks damn good in the water too. This is a simple tie for those that like to have impressionistic stones in their boxes. Plus, if you lose one, you don't have to cry about it afterwards. *Tying Note* This pattern is also tied in black and brown (just substitute the colors on all the materials). Materials (Golden Stone) Hook: TMC 5262 #2-10 Thread: 8/0 Tan Bead: 5/32" (Large) Gold Weight: .030 Lead Free Wire Antennae/Tails: Tan Goose Biots Abdomen/Thorax: Golden Tan Antron Dubbing Rib: Gold/Light Yellow Larva Lace Wingcases: Folded Thin Skin (Mottled Oak Golden Stone) Tying Steps 1. Crimp the barb and put a slight bend in the hook shank with a pair of needle nose pliers. Slide a bead onto the hook shank and attach the tying thread at the eye. Tie in two biots (one on each side of the hook eye) and whip finish. Place a drop of cement on the thread and push the bead tight to the eye. 2. Wrap approximately 15 wraps (half the shank) of lead free wire. Fold the tag end of the wire down and slide tight into the hollow of the bead. 3. Attach the thread at the rear of the shank and dub a small ball of dubbing. Tie in a pair of biots on each side of the body. 4. Tie in the larva lace so that it butts up to the lead wire (this will help form a taper for the abdomen). 5. Dub a smoothly tapered abdomen approximately 2/3 of the way to the bead and evenly rib the dubbing with the larva lace. 6. Tie in a 1/4" strip of thin skin and dub a thick ball covering half the thorax area.
  12. all flies will be reposted in the Fly Patterns forum as a reference with the tyer's name and recipe (if a recipe was sent along with the pic) after all is said and done...
  13. congratulations to the final two tiers: TerryH (10) vs. clyde (26) this final round will be a REALISTIC/MATERIAL CHALLENGE...basically, i will give you two types of material, and you must try and incorporate them into a realistic pattern of some sort...the pattern may represent anything the tyer chooses (any type of insect, animal, invertebrate, etc..)...the whole basis of this final round is to show your CREATIVITY, IMPROVISATION AND INGENUITY...what are the materials you ask?.....SWISS STRAW (a.k.a. RAFFIA) AND DEER HAIR...YOUR PATTERN MUST INCORPORATE BOTH MATERIALS TO QUALIFY!!!...to give you guys a little bit of a cushion to plan and play with your creations, the due date for entries into my email (bullyhunter at gmail.com) will be Sunday, May 4 at 10PM...good luck to you both...
  14. that's cuz hydro cleaned out a used condom out of its gills last year (after all, it came from the Bow)...
  15. let me put it to you this way cheeler, at any given time, there is between 50-100 members online...at the present moment, there are 57 votes in yet there are 67 online which leads me to believe there are squatters (lurkers) who don't want to add or contribute to this site or they just are too lazy to click their mouse 3 times after seeing some beauty flies...go figure...
  16. that's just the way it always is...pisses me off sometimes...
  17. 16th's a monday so probably working...unless, of course, there's a sign to miss a day...
  18. no...this one's different...same principles though...
  19. i'm fine now...had a day to get over it...still stings though...at the moment it was like salt in a fresh wound...
  20. i posted before the end of the game...now i'm just in an all out pissed off mood...don't start with me brian...
  21. i only account for size when it matters or for personal reference (personal bests) and not as a bragging tool to fellow fishermen...they all get released in the end (with the exception of a couple of crackas a year) and if you don't bring a camera, no one believes you anyways so what's the point of measuring?...there is none unless you are trying for an ego boost on a forum where no one really cares and they just want to know what they were hitting (or where they were hitting...lol) and whether or not you had a good time out...measurements are overrated (what's wrong with just saying you had a good day and some decent fish to hand)...there, my 2 cents and my second round of nasties as this topic and the weather bugs me...
  22. BTW...this poll closes at 10PM on Wednesday, April 23...
  23. that's my flying crane double haul ...trying to get to ninja status like max...
