Nice pics. As someone who is a native of Ontario, I'd just like to say that I'm stunned that such beautiful fish can come from such a shitty province

That was the very first book I read when I was learning to fly fish and it was a truly invaluable tool. Plus that's how I got to "meet" Clive. I emailed him and told him how much I enjoyed his book and could I have his autograph cuz he's all famous and stuff. He likes that kind of stuff....it's good to feed Spudman's ego

Ya....Mike and little Hayden both got "the look" from me. Can't get too mad about it though....cuz if I were 18 and mine looked like that I guess I'd wanna show them to the world too -

'tis indeed Birchy....seen it with my own eyes. -
Gotta agree with Rusty here...if ever there was a river that could be turned into a great trout fishery, the K river is it. Wandered it a few kms some years back when I was doing a golf tournie up there and had an afternoon to spare. I couldn't believe there were no fish in it....it's just a gorgeous piece of water. Thanks for posting Glenbow....good stuff.

Then again, it could be.. tying flies just drives me freaking nuts I'm with you there Taco. Ever since my Woolly Spratley fly failed to make the cut, I've decided that fly tying isn't for me. I don't know how Mike does it. For a guy that is otherwise so non-detailed-oriented in life, he sure does well at tying flies. Maybe that's where he dumps all his energy.

There already is....take a walk anywhere from the Glenmore Bridge down. -
.....and so you don't need to ask me the question of why I won't tent it and prefer my big honkin' trailer then eh Taco?! Yikes. I fear the day that I'm the one to stumble upon fresh bear stuff. I fear that I may never wander into the bush again and I don't want that. We carry bear spray, make lots of noise, keep the dog close, are always aware but I worry we just don't do enough and an encounter is almost inevitable. I think at that point I'd have to worry about stepping in my own sh*t vs a bear's.

All the streams in the S.W. have trails (OMR, Liv and tribs). So it's possible to tag along fishing with you and follow the trails if they have no waders. On the other hand, Mike (my husband) and I took out a couple of newbies on Saturday up Racehorse to give them a few pointers and get started. I took a camera intending to just take pics and wore just my wading boots. As it turned out, I crossed the river a few times without waders and, while it was a bit chilly, it wasn't too bad once you got used to it. Just can't stand in there for hours and fish is all. It's tough to find a stream in the mountains that doesn't need to be crossed at some point in time or another though due to a high wall or cliff or whatever. At least I haven't found one. Have fun! -
Birchy's Bad Joke Of The Week - June 25
LynnF replied to birchy's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
To make up for my last one: An out-of-breath 8 year-old girl ran up to her grandfather, who was tinkering in his workshop, and confronted him with the universally dreaded (by adults) question. "What is sex...?" He was surprised she'd ask such a question at her age, but thought if she's old enough to ask, she's old enough to get a straight answer. He wouldn't shirk his responsibility. Steeling himself to leave nothing out, he proceeded to describe for her all the variations of human sexuality he could conjure, careful to impress upon her the joys and responsibilities of intercourse and procreation. When Grandpa was finally done pontificating, the little girl stood frozen, as though nailed to the spot, and looked at him with her mouth open, eyes wide in amazement. Seeing that she was overwhelmed, he asked her what had caused the sudden curiosity. His granddaughter shook off her reverie and replied, "Grandma says dinner will be ready in a couple of secs." -

Peanut was walking down a dark alley. He was assaulted. -
Well Holy Sh*t!!!! I NEVER win anything! I'm super excited. Thanks much guys and thanks very much to Dave and the FFC board for this absolutely wonderful prize. And it just so happens I was whining over my broken Orvis just last week and worrying about what I was gonna use on the Bow. Bloody awesome...thanks!

Sorry for your pain Dave, but this was WAY too funny not to laugh at. The only thing that would have been funnier is if you were wearing a skirt and it flipped over your head showing your undies. Not that that has ever happened to me. And not that you'd be wearing a skirt while fishing. Would you? I just don't know with you guys anymore I, on the other hand, scaled a straight=up hill on Vicary this weekend and down a wall on Racehorse and maintained fine form. No wonder my waders have a hole in the rear. I gotta quit going down hills on my ass. But when you get to my age, when you do what you did this weekend, you'll surely be in hospital for a hip replacement. Hope you're feeling better soon - there's a big long weekend coming up that begs for adventure!

wow...those are unbelievable pics Rick. Catching sharks must be cool. Maybe I'll add it to my list. -
Ya...I already got a pair. And it's probably no coincidence that I've never drowned either. And I'm not altogether sure that my fishing partner will agree our pocketbook can support some fancy schmancy new waders either. But I'm a woman. And my mind is made up.
-
I NEVER wade over my waist - if I do then I'm drowning. Goin' to git me a pair tonight!

I just gotta say....I don't know if that is even in the running for the "unofficial" record, but it definitely wins the "official" title of the fugliest whitefish I've ever seen. -

Omigod Birchy.....I feel so bad now! I'll be making room for that other foot in my mouth....I hope I didn't offend you. Probably a good thing you won't grow to 7 feet....custom waders would probably be in order. Dave...honestly....Banana Hands.....I did laugh at that. -

wow...you do have some Fred Munster mitts going on there Birchy! So where'd you catch that second whitefish? I love whitefish...they're my favourite. -
Sturgeon fishing is on my list of "things to do before I die". I can't wait for the day I get to do it - in B.C. though - not somewhere where they will fly at my head.
-
If you go onto cnn.com's website this morning, they have a new video of this phenomenon. The reporter gets just smoked by 2 big carp. Same story, just a different day. Still inneresting though.
-
I watched the video of these flying sturgeon the other day.....yikes is an understatement. They looked like huge sharks bolting out of the water.....was wicked.
-
That makes me wanna go shopping now....I might not wait for Santa.
