  1. That is, by far, the sweetest thing ever. I'm taking my granddaughter out this year - gonna teach her how it's done. Or not done as the case may be.
  2. I give this thread a big thumbs up from start to finish. First Rick has a swollen thing beside his knee. High five to his lucky wife. Then Brad is buying clothes that are tight in a certain area. He never mentions which certain area but I can use my imagination. And, of course, the Star Trek bobbleheads....I just realized an hour passed before I realized that an hour passed.
  3. Was fishing at the foot bridge in Douglasdale last year when some young 'uns decided to start a fire on the opposite side of the river. The firemen promptly showed up, extinguished it and confiscated their beverages. I would take that to mean it's illegal.
  4. Rick.....add $400 to your total - I will call T.U.C. next week and straighten up with them.
  5. Need an electrician to wire a hot tub this Friday. Will pay cash. Please PM me if you know anyone who is available and qualified. Would rather go by word of mouth than by kijiji. Thanks.
  6. I'm getting out my slingshot....better go buy some replacement bulbs.
  7. I got yarded into a meeting that was supposed to be done but went on forever. Sorry I missed it.
  8. Whatever $$ I get from selling Mike's desk/flyfishing stuff I will donate to Streamwatch. Don't know what the amount will be right now, but will let you know when I know.
  9. I'm blaming it on the fact that I got a pedicure and got out my flip flops and washed my car all in the same day.
  10. Oh...and I think the snow is pretty.
  11. Yes...but is the weather going to stop anyone from coming to Calgary for noon today?
  12. Happy belated birthday buddy. You're still pretty hot for a guy who has a senior's discount at Denny's
  13. Dudes...if you don't look and smell pretty on the river, stay off it. Fishing is about the fashion statement....no arguments. Now I just need to find a pair of waders to match this nice blue Helly Hansen jacket I just bought....it's got big fish karma written all over it.
  14. Just finished watching Fly Nation on WFN. I noticed that the guys fishing did something whenever a fish jumped out of the water and was wondering if it was a technique they used to avoid losing an acrobatic fish. Thinking it might be useful for me on the Bow with all the rainbows that have spit the hook mid air at me. When the fish was about to hit the water on the way back down, the angler turned the rod so that the rod tip was pointing directly at the fish's mouth...it was a deliberate movement - for instance if the rod was at his right shoulder he moved it in an arc to his left shoulder to change positions. Anyone ever do that or something like it? And I just added Patagonia Argentina to my bucket list.
  15. Guess it's not a secret anymore. Way to out yourself
  16. I have a very expensive, state-of-the-art brand new stereo system that I need uninstalled and re-installed at a different location. If you know of anyone who does this sort of thing at a professional level (i.e what Soundsaround does) and can do it fairly quickly, please send me contact info. I have no problem paying the $$ to have it done right, just can't wait for 3 weeks. Thanks.
  17. I just saw this post today - posted about this in the other forum. Thank you all, from the bottom of my broken heart, for your kind words and thoughts. I'm amazed at how many good and true friends I have as I've found out the last 5 days....it's truly given me pause for thought during the most difficult week of my life. Thank you again.
  18. In my grief the last couple of days I have forgotten all of the friends that Mike and I had on here - many of whom we've met in person and shared good times with. I'm sorry for not thinking of this earlier - please do not interpret that as anything but I've had alot to deal with. And thank you for the PM's I just received. My fishing partner passed away last Sunday. He's gone to see our Jessie in a much better place. Lynn
  19. Me too! Got lots of vacation that I plan on using to assault some trouts this year. I missed out on alot last year due to personal circumstances so I've got a lot of built up fishing frustration in me. I'm focusing on tried and true and favorite spots and lots of early season on the Bow. All I remember is how last year the early season dry fly action was epic.....I need to be around for that this year. Nice post Rick. Want me to talk to your wife for ya? I could amuse her with a bottle of wine or 85 if you like....but then you'd have to find me on the river somewhere - and I don't think I'd be amenable to leaving at that point
  20. Robert - I used to have mild sciatica...and when I feel it starting to flare a bit, here's what I do. It's a twist between an yoga move and a post-cardio stretching exercise. Sit down on the ground and put both legs out front. Whichever side the sciatic pain is on, cross that leg over the other leg as much as it will cross (you're trying to get your foot as close to the opposite shoulder as you can). Lie back flat on the ground with the opposite knee raised now supporting the crossed-over leg and press lightly with quick pushes of pressure down on the knee that is crossed. It's ideal to get someone else to do it - you can tell him to press harder or longer as you feel the "pull"....and eventually your knee will make it's way lower and lower to the floor if you can tolerate it. It's painful, but I call it a good pain - it feels amazing to stretch it and after the "burn" wears off in a day or so, the sciatic pain is gone. Sometimes I will turn to the side I'm crossed to and that works the stretch a different way. Hope I explained that clear...just typed it as I saw it in my head and sometimes that *hit doesn't make sense lol
  21. I felt a shift in the force. I knew Clive was here...it drew me to this thread. I typed some *hit a couple of years ago that I have no recollection of. I wish I could blame the crack. Boy I was sure a bitch back then. Have at it
  22. Well that's the second recommendation for him....so I will contact him. Thanks!
  23. I have a huge project in my kitchen that I'm about to undertake, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to do all of it myself. I've done quite a bit of online research and talked to some who have done what I'm about to do so I'm confident I know about the process, the work involved and what it takes to get a professional end product. I have oak cabinets in my kitchen and I want to turn them into white ones. I've already done the granite counters and new backsplash, floors and paint and I feel that white cabinets with updated hardware, handles and hinges would really give it that final "updated/modernized" feel. However it's quite labour intensive in terms of the prep and if you don't use the right materials or have the right technique you're going to get cabinets that look like they were painted badly and not something that looks like it was a new cabinet install (which can be achieved and is what I'm after). I am confident that I have the time and ability to do the base cabinets - i.e. everything but the doors/drawers. Those are the pieces that are front and centre and need to be perfect in terms of the prep and application and it's the application part that I'm not sure I'm going to be able to pull off. So...I'm looking to outsource that piece of painting work to someone who has done this and who can show me how well they can do this. So if you have any referrals or names, please pass along to me. I'd prefer to support the smaller business man who might be struggling or looking for some work, but he has to be able to deliver quality. I have 23 cupboard doors and 8 drawers. Thanks! Lynn
