  1. Thanks for all the input. Well, it seems like it is going to be handy to tie with for sure.... am I on the inevitable road to a nor-vise now? I guess my next decision will be which one. Leaning towards the nor-bobbin for what seems like ease of use and a fair bit less than the Ekich, however, the rite bobbin seems awfully cheap at around $20 on a few sites - might be a good way to try them out. I know I have seen the nor-bobbins at a few fly shops, do any carry the Ekich or Rite bobbins?
  2. Currently I am tying on a non-rotary vise and I am currious if an automatic bobbin would be a good idea. I could see these really cutting down tying time on some of those flys that require resting the bobbin a few times. Obviously the price is steep for a bobbin but maybe it is well worth it Just wondering what the experienced automatic bobbin users think of it and recommend?

Great snaps man. Looks like you got the hang of that camera. I assumed those came from a dslr, very impressive
  4. Thanks for all the compliments guys. I'm excited to get tieing on it I used one like this Freud Forstner Bit
  5. On Thanksgiving I headed to my gf's parents house for a few days. Her dad has a nice woodworking shop so I figured that would be the best time to build a bench i have wanted to do for quit some time. I have been looking at plenty of benches on line and compiling some ideas that I wanted to have in mine. I used 9' of 1x5 S4S Oak for the raised arms for tools and thread. The base was laminated out of two peices of 3/4 oak plywood because I was not willing to pay $80 for a full sheet of oak plywood for one bench. All in all I am very happy with the outcome. I am sure after a few hours of tying on it I will think of something i would like added or changed but that can be for bench #2 some day Holds: 42 Thread spools 1 ipod holder 6 bobbins 8 various tools 3 hair stackers 2 bead trays 4 various glues/waxes 1 hook tray 1 beer holder The finished bench seemed hard to get a good picture of because of the shine off the varnish but here it is anyway.
  6. Pretty sure the oilers had the Flames worried twice this year already. Yes the flames won but that is a very bold statment
  7. when I was younger I used to reff alot and it is not an easy job!.... so many grey areas in the rules and you have to be very good at beeing consistant with your calls. Hockey has to be one of the hardest games to reff due to this. I agree with ya bhurt, call the ones that take away chances. I think it was more like that before the obstruction rules came into the game to increase speed and scoring.
  8. Since it is getting to the winter months how have people found it in the cold weather. Coiling? Does it build up more ice with the texture of the line?
  9. Putting the finishing touches on a bench that sits on a table. I will post finished pics in a day or so. Made out of oak but could make it out of scraps.... Even grab a short 2x4 and drill a few holes in it for tools. I also use a sheet of peg board and some hooks to hang materials in their original bag. Makes it organized, easy to see everything and less double purchasing. Bhurt........ *Shutter*
  10. Been tying up a bunch of boatmen and caddis larva, plan to start on winter nymphs as bhurt mentioned. This long weekend has been devoted to building a bench for the winter months so my tools quit getting buried under a mound of materials.

Looks like a sick day boys. She's been a crazy fall so far, good to see you guys braved the weather and it payed off.
  12. Looked like it was tipped above the net to me.... Quick review too
  13. Max took some sick pics of them in one of his bow bugs threads. check em out.
  14. Ya that is true, still makes it look dishonest. I have written Edmonton Vehicle for Hire Commission an email and will let you know what their response is.
  15. The event was at the marriott cree resort which is out of town I guess but not the airport which is what these cabs are designated for. I dug a little deeper and found this so looks like they do have set fares. Seems like these rates are from the airport to what ever zone so I don't know how it would work from the casino to down town. Still odd that one van was $35 and one was $45. Since this is not common and 'special' to Edmonton I feel they should have a sign which states how the charge and/or let us know when we get in the cab how it works and what fare to expect.
  16. Seems like a scam. Next time I will be checking for sure. I was telling the guy I'll give him $20 and we'll call it good but he got crazy. Tried driving away with the door open and us inside of it. So seeing how's my buddies gf was in the back seat I just payed it and took his license plate. Probably try and report him out of spite. heres the company logo that was on the side of it.
  17. Just got back from a trip to Edmonton for a MMA event. After the event we took a cab to head to a bar. Half way to the bar i notice there was no fair meter, seemed odd to me but figured I had a few more beers at the event than I realized and it was somewhere in there. We get to the bar which was not a very long ride and the cabby says $35 bucks. Apparently it's a flat rate no meters required.... I said seems kind of odd but paid him anyways. Then our friends who went the exact same distance got charged a flat rate of $45 bucks for the same taxi (van). Seems a little off to me. Any one else experience something like this?
  18. Check out the thread call "Bows breeding with Bulls" or something like that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redband_trout
  19. mkm Get in touch with fishpro. I believe he is working on a trip up there
  20. hahaha... too funny Birchy. Can we just pin a topic about over crowded rivers and the internet?
  21. I wouldn't slam you. I don't have kids and I realize they are mischievous but you'd think you'd never let a three year old leave your sites near water. Rivers are so unforgiving and the peace is a huge one at that
  22. Ah i see. Maybe use string (color of choice) and varnish the *hit out of it. Just my $.02.
  23. I would probably pre-drill counter sink and while the glue is wet use like a #6 screw. The holes might take away from the look of the net but no worse than wrapping it in something i'd imagine.
  24. Last night I was skating stimmies across and was getting great luck. I'd cast out a short cast lift high and skate it in. I'm no expert at this but was working very well for me.
