  1. I was having difficulty with RIO on light tipet in the summer. Switched to Umqua and am happy so far. I 'm not using fluro as often these days too expensive and too heavy for dry.....
  2. Interesting.... I picked up a cut bow on the Bow last week....
  3. My best day of fishing this year (I fish alot) was cold wet and crappy. My worse day was also cold wet and crappy. Unless the river is obviously blown out, I don't let the weather tell me when to fish....
  4. It was around Fish Creek two years ago. Definety could have moved to Police. If I remember correctly he wasn't a bad size. With two more years on him it would be a large fish...
  5. Is this the guy??
  6. I caught a weird snub nose fish a couple of winters ago and posted it here. I'll see if I can find the pic
  7. I pretty much float this section every weekend. I normally get on the water at 800 and get off around 4:30 and I do a fair number of stops. If you are in a hurry you can do it in 6 hours or so if you stay in your boat. Note a drift boat will be slower by an hour or so...I agree ignore the sign stay right. No issue at all with the weir. An idiot must have put the signs up. I'll be on this section again Friday. If you see me (fish cat cougar) say hi
  8. Only if you dress in a peasant skirt, put some flowers in your hair and sing something from the Mammas & the Papas. I love the group by the way....
  9. I wonder if there will be an attempt to pick up the lights balloons and other things they will be putting into the river?
  10. You are right. Actually I think it was a post spawn female. The fight wasn't too impresive. The reason I didn't measure her was I wanted to get her back quickly because she looked pretty rough.
  11. Early morning is aways my favorite time for all forms of fishing....Earlier the better...
  12. Unfortunately, never measured him. He was a brute....I've caught measured 25" fish, but I think this is the biggest I ever caught...
  13. 80% of my fishing is sole simply because not too many of my friends are as crazy about fishing as I am and I find I catch more by myself. As for camping... While I wish I could talk my kids into coming along more often, I have a hard time getting them out more then a couple of times a year for camping/fishing and my wife pretty much hates the outdoors. Most of my friends are golfer not campers. Rather than sit around frustrated I went and bought myself back packing gear this summer and am planning a few sole trips. I used to back pack when I was in my 20's and loved it. I've always felt at home in the woods but I don't think I'm going to wander too far from beaten trails.
  14. Another strategy is to just edit and leave blank or post something else. Can come in handly if you decide to tell it like it is at 4 AM after a few beers....
  15. That's pretty rough. One reason I like TFO is for $35 you have your rod in a couple of days. My other rods are Sage. Haven't had to deal with thier warrenty yet.
  16. Sometime no matter what you do you are going to be out of luck....
  17. You can bring in some pretty big fish on 6 lb tippet. One trick is to make him turn sideways into the current as fast as you can by putting your rod on its side, so that your have tension torwards shore. Is hard for a fish to fight if he's sideways in the current. Note: this only works if you turn him quickly. Once you get a lot of line out you can't turn him. Also if you are in fast water run down stream into softer water.
  18. Although I tend to do alot of shuffling around, on average I typically carry: Winter: I carry 3 nymphs patterns all small 16 - 20 ... Summer I carry ~6 nymph patterns in couple of different sizes (mostly 14s), ~ 8 dry fly patterns of various sizes, ~ 4 streamer patterns. I like to come up with my own patterns so I'm usually playing with a few experimental patterns, whatever the time of the year. If I find a pattern that working great I usually drop my bottom performer when I go through my carrying boxes... I only carry a limited number of any one fly with me, however I keep about 2 years worth of inventory of my favorite flies at home... This is just for the Bow. I have alot of specialty stuff I use once in a while lake fishing etc.
  19. Interesting...I've heard there are burbot in the Bow, however I've never caught one. Not sure I want to...
  20. There is nothing wrong using spinning gear provided you adhere to the regs. I don't try to teach fly fishing to kids under 13 based on experience with my kids. When I take someone down the river that has no fishing experience, kid or adult, I always take a spinning rod along.
  21. One more climbing picture. This was a picture of my feet during lunch on a 12 pitch climb of the East face of Ha Ling. Great day...
  22. Cool hobby. Too expensive for me. My non fishing hobbies are mainly out door related(e.g. climbing, hiking) however I also love to read as well as sketch.
  23. One of my best 2009 fish caught on my best float on the Bow of 2009. It was a perfect day with 20+ fish many a good size,
  24. Surprised I've been asked for my licence three times in the past two years. Possible I spend too much time on the water...
  25. Pretty ugly. A shame...
