Maybe you should have eaten at MacDonald's on the way to the hill!! P quote name='rickr' date='Apr 4 2009, 09:41 PM' post='81795'] To add insult to injury, it seems as I've gotten older I've become more susceptible to motion sickness (maybe I'll tell a couple of seasickness stories one day. My friends back home call me the human chum line). Flat light combined with bumpy skiing brings on a feeling very similar to seasickness. It started to hit me on the lift up for the second run. I thought a couple of runs on groomers would cure me, but it turned out that I was too dizzy and nauseated to continue. In fact, it took me around 1/2 an hour to make my way down on the groomers from the top of the 1st chair. I was one sick puppy. I did manage to fight off the urge to puke, but probably should have just went with it. By the time I got back to the lodge I was drenched in sweat. Took 4 hrs to recover and ski a bit in the afternoon(following my nap from 12 to 1). I had never felt so old. As I sat in the lodge by myself, I actually started to wonder if my best years truly were behind me. I mean I can't ski flat light without getting sick for *&^% sake.

Sadly, a lot of people in Canada do... P

Yup, works great! You could set one with 5' one with 10'. etc. depending on the depth, speed of the H2O you are fishing. P

Dustin, If you are not in a rush, checkout Costco.com (US Costco site) for a killer deal on a Snowbee bags combo pack (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11249876&search=snowbee&Mo=0&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Sp=S&N=5000043&whse=BC&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D =snowbee&Ntt=snowbee&No=0&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1). To make it worth while, I think you would have to have someone bring it up as opposed to sending it up vis USPS or UPS, etc. I'm pretty sure that no dealer could match the total cost including exchange- though shipping, etc. not included) at least that's what my source said when he checked the price list. I'm sure you could sell off the bags that you are not interested in keeping. P

How Far Would Hike In A Day To Go Fishing ?
ÜberFly replied to McLeod's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Nigel, Now that we've hooked up several times now... I've been able to decrease the distance travelled and dramatically increased the landing ratio! 3rd week of June - secret spot, mark it on your calendar!! P Cheers -
I know a lot of cycling tourers that use hammocks as all you need is 2 trees and a tarp - very efficient, but the problem I have with the concept is sleeping on one's side, which I like to do... Also, if you have back problems, probably not going to do your back any good... Seems both practical and impractical at the same time... P

Craig, I'm curious to see what would happen if you (we) were to (would) try and fish your SJW at the bottom.. Just curious... P

I know where you are and I would agree! Hiking the ridge at Bridger rocks, though last time I was there ('93) I didn't... Backcountry has been dicey (90% of the deaths have been sledders) though I did the (little) Wapta tour this weekend (http://dowclimbing.com/WaptaIcefields.html). Avi conditions weren't good when we went in, but that was based on a weather system that didn't make it past calgary so they avi conds ended up being ok. Peter

I earn my turns in the backcountry! I find it hard to justify over $70 to ski at a local resort. P

How Far Would Hike In A Day To Go Fishing ?
ÜberFly replied to McLeod's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Day hike or backpack?! Day hike 15 or 16 km (one direction), any more then that and you spend too much time hiking and not enough time enjoying the area you are hiking (fishing) to. Of course it depends on the terrain as well. Backpacking was 27 km one direction (about my limit). P -
So the general consensus is that there is no problem with bringing the leader into the guides when fighting a fish so long as the line to leader connection nor any of the knots don't get hung up on the guides... Thanks for all your input. Cheers, Peter

So Mike... Is that a comment or an answer to my question?! LOL P P.S. And yes I do remember you telling me that!

Gang, I was watching "The New Fly Fisher" today and the guide happened to mention, when fighting large fish, in order to gain control over the fish it was okay to bring the leader into the rod guides... I was taught that this could break the leader and obviously you could lose the fish?! What's up?! Is this okay or not?! Thanks, Peter
-
No, no... It was directed towards me as I didn't know... Really!!

Thanks! P

What's a "soft"?!

I have heard that streamers are the most effective pattern during the turbid run-off period. Wow, that's a pretty bold statement that would be challenged by many on this site - I personally would not say that!! I, as well as many others on here have experienced much success with Clousers (all black, all white, black/white, chartreuse/white, blue/white, olive/white, etc. - they all work!!) Double bunnies as well and the Bow River Buggers you mentioned, of course. I've had success throughout the year. As previously mentioned in a recent post, it is the technique which is more important during specific times of the year (the colder months as the fish are more reluctant to chase down prey in the winter so you pretty much have to put it in front of them - but there are exceptions, of course) Just my $0.02. P

For this special day you get and extra special hit from the bong! Enjoy! P

Yeah, please add "alot" to the list as well!! It's two words, not one!! "A" & "lot"!! <--poke--<

SG, Where do you hail from?! There are many people on this board that would show you the ropes (including myself) so let us know when you are in town... Cheers, Peter

Which Is Your Favorite Reel Maker?
ÜberFly replied to NormanMcLean's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
What about Bauer or Orvis, or... ? -
I don't have any exp. with cartridge reels per se, but the concept seems great!! Snowbee and Grey's both have cartridge models that I know of... There was a few people selling some on the trading post a while back... P

I have the Guide's predecessor the SST and it's one heckofa jacket!! As I mentioned before on other threads, you can't go wrong with Patagonia (or Simms, for that matter) as their warrantees are THE BEST!! The Guide, SST and Deep Wading jackets are all curently on sale on the Patagonia website (not sure on the sizing that's available). Cheers, P
