  1. wow sad ,i feel for ya , thats just way way to close , you must of had the best spot as he knew it , if he was as close as you honestly say , , i'd of grabed the ol 5 of diamonds and put it it his rod good , no need of anyone getting that close , i always like having people join me when i fish , just please say hi and chat for a second , the river is big enough for way more then 3 guys in most holes , just take turns going through them , this sport is more then just about catching fish
  2. just wanted to let everyone know , that as i'm mostly booking and handling taking bamboo guys myself that i now have Mr Brian Peace , our own '' Hawgstoppah'' on the team , he'll be doing the southern alberta trips and most of the walk & wades on the bow , plus float trips with Bow River Adventures , I have spent some time on the water with him and you'll enjoy his company , if you like fishing and laughter , he's your man , he knows what's happening when it gets tough and he'll put you onto lots of big fish ,
  3. doc nice looking wets , i still use wets all the time , i even got some from BH BOBBIE from the bamboo club over the winter , he also just got some starlings , check with him if your looking for the good ol stuff to tie wets
  4. yes give me a call and we will get togeather for coffee , i have gotten a few nice new quads for the guys to try out this year , i have really found them to be strong and a joy to cast , i think they are even better then penta's , had a marcello rod with the bamboo ferrules come in and it went back , i'll tell ya about when we get togeather , make sure you bring me some of them flies of yours to look at in person , i'm sure they are alot better then the pictures of them that i have seen , i got a few hardy gut eyed flies to show you also tight lines to ya
  5. silver dr we still never made it out yet , i just picked up a nice dana gray 8''ft quad in 5 wt , '' carlson four '', you want to get togeather and try it out , one of the best casting bamboo rods i have ever had my hands on , also going to put a gathering on this summer as alot of the bamboo guys coming in for fishing and a good chance to meet some of our members and try out a bunch of different cane rods
  6. use it on lots of my bamboo rods , it should last a couple years , the tips do on some sink , i just coat them with red tin muclin , they don't hold a candle to be anything near as good as a real silk line , try to find a good used silk line , it will last you forever if you take care of it , and i have yet to see any line that lifts off the water as easy and nice as a good dressed 100% pure silk line , nothing comes close to it , you have to take care of it , a little work after the day of fishing , let it dry ovenight and then a recoat of the red tin muclin and your ready to go again
  7. GIL wow , that stone looks so darn good i'd eat it myself , i'll take a dozen if you'll sell em
  8. very nice pictures , thanks for shareing
  9. was out floating yesterday and i heard all about this whole loop reel , first i must say it sure made me laugh when i read it , you 2 guys can be nasty , lol , but i liked it , Brian Niska thanks for letting us all know as now we know the whole trout and nothing but the whole trout so help me god , i'm a bamboo and reel junky , i have over 75 reels , mostly the older english reels , hardys , dingleys. youngs , when it comes to the newer reels and i have had pretty well at least one model from the makers , every one has it's good and bad points , whatever tickle's your fancy , for me i still kept my loop classic 4,5, 6 limited edition in the red side plates , i still have not seen anyone make a reel as nice for looks and the drag is purr purr perfect i just hope i spelled everything right now you two should just go for a float trip for the day , better i'll drive ya just for the enjoyment of having you both within 16 ft of each other , and we all must use our nice loop reels ,
  10. orvis , has good warranty , but when you pay that kind of money for a rod it should last you , look at the time your without your rod , it's a pain in the ass having to ship a rod back to them , they want as much $ for a good orvis rod today as a thomas & thomas rod or a winston and even a sage , now you go back a few years ago and they made good rods , i'm into bamboo rods that i fish and collect and the older orvis bamboo rods were really great rods , the new ones they make IMHO are just junk , you can see the glue lines , and for $2000 it should be a heck of a piece of workmanship ,
  11. enjoy yourself , great river with some good size fish in it ,
  12. your a lucky guy , sweet looking rod and they cast so nice , you can feel the rod load good , you'll enjoy it next to bamboo , i love old glass rods , i have a bunch in my collection , i like the old wonderod
  13. I MUST BE LIKE YOU WITH THE PICTURE THING here's my home email address , send me a couple pictures , if i don't know what it is , i know alot of guys who will know what it is , down in the u.s.a and across the pond , we belong to a bamboo club it's also about classic reels with cane rods email to dutchflythebow@yahoo.ca i'll try to help you out
  14. well thats a starter , i know it's not worth the 8500 , it sounds like a production rod , maybe a heddon , which if in good condition can bring fair money , need to see the or tell me whats written on the side of the rod , it should be near the handle , will have some numbers and some letters , sort of like this 8 4/18 heh g , it's then a 8 ft rod which weighs 4 1/8 and the old letters are for the silk line and it's the old way , i can tell you what it would be in the new aftma
  15. cane rods or better known over here as bamboo rods can vary in price big time , you might have a rod thats worth nothing or a rod thats worth up to $8500 , i'd say most are in the very low end but again i have seen guys get lucky with having a rod worth a couple grand you can tell the maker of your rod if you know alot about bamboo rods from the way it was made , every maker had little things he would do to a rod that was his tell sign , i have been collecting and fishing bamboo rods for some time , have over 30 good collectable and useable bamboo rods in my collection , i still fish about 98% of the time with bamboo , even from my drift boat i use 9 and 9 1/2 ft bamboo rods once you use a good bamboo rod for dry flies there is nothing yet made that comes close to the feel of a nice made bamboo rod the way it loads , on your rod , would be best to see pictures , the piece thats missing can be found , no big deal on that , it just depends on who made the rod , no name also not a big thing , for the value it's best to keep it all origanal unless it has to be restored and lots of great builders still doing that , why don't you try to take a few pictures and post them , the handle would be good , i might be able to tell you what you got with one picture
