  1. Random draws for prizes....that way the kids who have a couple big browns targeted and catch them every week will not have an advantage and the newbies will also have a chance for a prize.
  2. I was on Frenchmans Creek early August (first time there!) and watched a cuttie feeding in some riffles at the head of a larger pool....just a dimple in the waves...I listened to some advice from a friend (thanks Kai!) and tied on a green drake(ish) thing and floated it down the riffle. Well...SLAM...this fish took the fly and I set the hook....He was a larger fish for the creek I was fishing (better than 12"...possibly 14"?) and beat it hell bent for leather across the pool...my reel screaming and the fish almost 1/2 out of the water he ran the length of the pool...beautiful...controled (lol...not) long line release after that.....really, I sat, smoked and sighed....love this country.
  3. I've had trouble with the Maxima leader latey also....bad batching? I've had a couple 6lb test spools (plus a buddies) not withstand the knot tightning tug...I was able to break it easily with much less than 6lbs pressure.
  4. He was IDed by two different people as the guy who just pulled a robbery....he ran and failed to drop a weapon when confronted by an officer of the law....whats the problem tazing his ass? I have read alot of opinions on a couple boards and I just don't understand the posters who say he shouldn't have been zapped. The cop is sombodys son too....should he try and take this 17yr old in a fair fight? Maybe pull out the baton instead and get himself knifed in the face? Fawk that! The tazer is a great tool to give cops range on those who are resisting arrest. It does a couple things real nice...first it puts a guy down for a few seconds so he can be controled and second...gives the perp the strong desire of never wanting to be hit with it again. If you think it's being overused your just not aware of how much it was needed.
  5. The Fishing Hole will never see my shadow grace their door again....worst fishing shop ever.
  6. Ahhhhh! LMFAO!! I don't know where I've been but I read the first few posts of this board...had an 'awe shucks' moment and moved on...didn't realise it turned into a flame fight, and a ff with some good points. My stance....love the picts...love the 'awe shucks' feeling of a young person enjoying the sport...loved the picts of the bulls! As for the handeling....I'm sure almost everyone here would love to have their grinning mugs beside a fish like that. I'm sure the fish doesn't like it... just like it doesn't like the hole in his lip and the panicked struggle for what it believes is it's life. I'm sure, in this case and in the case of a large % of fly fishers, the fish lived to fight again. Nice story, great picts... awe shucks.
  7. Zactly. The concept is sound but it's the markups and commissions etc you have to watch for . It's a way to play the futures market for the retail consumer.
  8. Had a guy at my door last week...listened to the pitch for about 3 seconds before I said no thanks....he proceeded to fish out a 2/3rds smoked butt from his shirt pocket and tried to launch into the rebuttle...door closed before he could.
  9. Isn't the idea of camping and ATVing to remote fishing places everyones dream? Isn't that the reason that the places are ripped up....you know....by everyone trying to live the dream?
  10. Looking for a icon to describe how disapointed I am with this thread.......looking.......disapointed.......looking.....
  11. Love it! Great post!
  12. No joke....you are in flavour country...pick a stream....any stream....
  13. That is one big cluster of puppies! I bet they are a hoot when awake and stumbling around on those paws. Good on you for the adoption, the fly fishing gods will remember.
  14. Ya, I laughed my ass off when I heard about that...I can just imaging the stream of french cursing....
  15. Wow, that is frickin sweet! As George W would say...awesome~!
  16. Looks like the top few rows of my Atlantic Salmon box...add a few Green Machines, Butterflys, Cossabooms and a Shady Lady or 5 and you got it covered!
  17. Welcome OSF! I'll echo the Lady here...they Bow is in run off now and, depending on a few variables, might be that way for a few weeks. There is some fishing to be had for sure but it's a different river in July. As for places...I guess I won't be spilling any beans if I say Fish Creek park (south). That and really anywhere there is access (Google Earth = Friend). Sorting thru this board is also invaluable. Cheers.
  18. Two words...Glen Bow...or is that one word...Glenbow? I picked up a wack and a half of great quality flys this winter for a great price. He is a poster here and runs a banner too....
  19. I won't be looking them in the eyes....don't want 'em to get the wrong idea.....
  20. Wow! As George W Bush would say....thats awesome! I've tied Atlantic Salmon flys in my youth and have thought to myself that, if I ever get back into tying, it would be to do realistics but never knew where to start. Thanks, great post!
  21. Very sorry for your loss. A dog truly is the best friend.
  22. Meh.....it is stock footage gathered by a disinterested clerk, edited by someone who didn't know/care and presented by someone who didn't watch it.
  23. Who cares the size exactly....nice catch!
  24. Oh gawd...flash back...now I got that in my head...Limewire here I come....
  25. I've seen them in Ont. and NB.
