  1. As a victim of Bearanioa, I stand in absolute awe of Brian's story. As someone who prides himself in his ability to spin a yarn, I think I have a pretty good idea of when I hear something I can't top, or at least try to. Brian, you have left me without a story in reply. That is no small feat!! You just kept casting?? OMG!!
  2. My responses: 1. If you have to use more than one bottle of spray, rethink where you are. 2. I hope its not poochie 3. That way you might be able to sacrifice your friend while you run away like a little girl 4. We don't condone keeping fish do we? Isn't this an elitist fly fishing site? If you keep one, you deserve to be bear bait. 5. Bring poochie with you. see 3, or even 2 6. Run away screaming like a little girl? Seriously, thanks Pipestoneflyguy. I really do appreciate the tips. I just need to look up what to do for 6 that doesn't require an underwear change!
  3. No effin way!!!! I would have passed out and been grizzly appetizer. I have been around sharks plenty.. While I have tons of respect, I can't say I'm scared of them and don't let their presence stop me from fishing where I want. I just take precautions. Bears on the other hand HORRIFY me. I'm sure it is a familiarity issue, but whatever. Your ammo is what, pepper spray? What about a sawed off 12 gauge? Or two? Or better yet a grenade launcher. I have a hard time seeing myself fishing in grizzly country. Maybe I can bring Hawgstoppah and let them sniff him! You game Brian?
  4. The river has been fishing very well, even for us beginners. Clarity is getting better, but slowly. Water levels are still very high. I did catch one the other day in the run itself, but the vast majority in the slow water inside the seam. I will say that that they tend to hit more agressively when the water is dirty, though that could be a function of time of year? Anyway, the fish I have caught the last few days have been just slamming the nymphs. Maybe because they can't see it until the last second and have to react more quickly? I'm sure someone here has the answer.
  5. I'm heading way south...into Montana to get a trailer. Nice trip. I'll leave Thursday evening, drive for 8 hours, sleep a bit, pick up a trailer, drive back, meet the wife and fam at Buffalo Lake on Saturday. Now if I happen to find some little trout stream between here and there.........
  6. Ah Lynn, without realizing it you are on to one of the few secrets of being a guy. My wife is convinced that I couldn't build anything if I wanted to. Calls me handsome, not handy. She got it wrong twice. I don't want her to think I'm handy because then she will expect me to do stuff, thereby taking away time from the things I want to do, ie, fish, golf, ski, etc. So when she does ask me to do something, I make sure to screw it up a little and swear alot. Works like a charm. I hope all the other gents on the board won't string me up for sharing this, but you seem like a reasonable gal and I'm sure won't spread it around. Unfortunately, I can never now meet your husband as he will forever more hate me.
  7. Tyler, Nice meeting you today at Hanson's. Good luck and report on how it is going. And read this board. It is chock full of information.
  8. Nice quote! The Replacements, quite possibly the best bad football movie ever!
  9. Could you imagine the K River being fishable? It'd be like golfing in Kananaskis. You would never want to leave!
  10. There should be a way to combine Fish Population Monitor and the topless thing. How about all pictures taken in the name of conservation by the Fish Population Monitor must include a topless sunbather in the background? Or foreground. Or whateverground.

    Brads Pig

    Sweet fish Brad!
  12. Dude, That is one dope fishing shirt ya got there! (I'm practicing my hip hop speech. I can almost see my 14 yr old rolling his eyes.)
  13. Can't wait until you're old and feeble so I can laugh at you when you fall. Of course, I'll be dead.....
  14. Classic! Sometimes it's the simplest explanation.
  15. Ha! A three legged dog walks in to a bar, orders a drink and says: "I'm looking for the man who shot my paw"
  16. That was funny! Dave's undies would be scary!
  17. Hey, I didn't fall today! That could very well be a first. Its quite an event for me not to have to change clothes before I get in the car. Yaayy!! SJW, I would have laughed like a 12 yr old girl, and hope you get to do the same for me it you ever see me fall. Really, you only have to fish with me once for it to happen!
  18. Tro, Thanks for the link and looking forward to your report. Can't wait to try it there myself. Good Luck!
  19. Finally got a chance to try out some of the techniques I learned on this thread. Got out to the Bow, really just working on casting as much as anything as the water was still pretty muddy. Ended up hooking 6 in about an hour. Lost one on a bad hookset, one on the swing and I just missed him, and one I let get below me when I could have kept up with him. The other three I really worked on keeping the rod high, following them down stream, and working the rod more agressively side to side to keep the fish off balance. Results were a brown just over 20, a 18" bow and a really fat 15" brown. Awesome morning! Also, Max told me about a guy he took out from Texas recently who sight casts to redfish. Said the guy hooked a lot of fish and was having a hard time landing them (sound familiar). I started thinking that since in saltwater where I fished, there were rarely obstacles in the water and no current, so there was little reason to take the fight to the fish. All you had to do was wear him out, which with some species can take awhile. But in a river, they have too many things helping. So on the three I caught, I fought them very agressively when they were not actively running. Time will tell whether that is coincidence or a good tactic, but I will keep using it. Thanks to all!!
  20. Fishead, I just bought a condo in Panorama, so am very interested in the fishing opportunities there as well. Here are my answers: We will be there a week in late July Don't mind driving, but I am on vacation with the family and too much time away will get me in hot, hot water. I like lake fishing and have a ponotoon boat. I would probably get a tube for my son who would certainly come with me. I would probably prefer rivers and streams, but am not married to the idea. MissinTheBow sings the praises of rainbows in interior BC lakes, so wouldn't turn down getting into some of those big boys and girls. So I guess the short answer is both! Any info you could give would be awesome. I can't wait for my trip in a month or so! Tro, thanks for starting this. I was going to ask myself!
  21. Should have watched the video first. Obviously Orlando as well? I was stationed there in 1980 an 81, about 20 miles from Disney World.
  22. Birchy, When I lived in Orlando, you could see it launch, the contrails and separation anyway. I think you could even hear it, but it was 20 years ago and I may be remembering it wrong. I can't remember if we could see the flame. I do remember the utter thrill however. I grew up in Houston in the 60s. Made you an automatic space nut. My aunt worked at NASA (and one of the pictures on the "Things to do in Texas" was a shot of my dad and his best friend with 80 redfish or so) and got me the word for word radio transcripts from Apollo 11 about a week after splashdown. I read it cover to cover. It was on old mimeograph paper and was several inches thick. The astronauts even swore when the TV wasn't recording. To a 9 yr old, that was the coolest thing ever. It was lost in a move in the 70s and I still feel bad about it. What I would give to have a copy today. I was on a Submarine (USS Birmingham, SSN 695) when the Challenger exploded. I almost got in a fight when someone in the crews mess made a smart ass remark about it. I literally jumped across a table at him and was grabbed before I could lay into him. When we got back to Pearl Harbor a few weeks later, I would turn off the TV any time I saw it coming on. It did not feel right to me watching people I had always considered heros die. I can honestly say it was at least 10 years later when I finally saw it by accident. I was living in Houston when Columbia disintegrated. I was watching it land on TV. This one was much more personal as my son played baseball with Illan Ramon's son. I had met Illan and knew he was an astronaut, but frankly did not know he was on Columbia until I saw it that day. I certainly knew his son (and had coached him a bit) and mother much better. Tragic, as you can expect. All that said, I still get a massive thrill anytime I see the shuttle go, either 100 miles away in Orlando or on TV and envy you just having seen it. It is an awesome sight!
  23. There was an article in a Saltwater Fly Fishing mag I have about catching Mako's (think 400 lb Rainbow trout with bad ass teeth) on a fly rod. They target Mako's because they are surface fighters with lots of air. Would be awesome.
  24. Have a blast esleech! I love long fishing trips. Hope you are going with some good friends.
  25. Bob, There is an old quote from Texas that says: "I wasn't born in Texas, but got here as fast as I could" I would say the same about Calgary. Birchy, I most humbly apologize for stealing your post!! Can you convice Bob to take me to HIS CREEK as well. I woul reciprocate, but I don't have a creek yet.
