  1. Sure. Only took me 15 yrs to get to this point. The start ain't quite so nice!
  2. I know. But it is sometimes handy when you can see on screen what it is you are shooting. I know they would start to pixelate with my old 3 MP, but with 7.1 MP? Not sure. I doubt it would on the computer monitor, but I have no idea what the print would look like.
  3. With GST and shipping, just under 4 bills. I saw one at a camera shop in Calgary for $425, so $450 or so with GST.
  4. Oh, OK. I'm just excellent at keeping things to myself, so no worries there
  5. That makes perfect sense, thanks. I broke off a really nice brown in a creek the other day. 5X and 5wt. Didn't even realize I had broke him off until later, thought I had just lost him. Broke the tippet, not the knot, and with very little pressure. I am going with a guide this week with some clients. Maybe I'll get the guide to bring me a 3 wt!!
  6. Hey BBT, Here's the best part: Golf tournament, Bullshooters, Concert, all rodeo IS WORK!!!!!! All with employees of your fine organization, as a matter of fact!
  7. My last week in Calgary consisted of: 3 short trips on the Bow, I think 5 or 6 trout total, the smallest 16", and got to see my son hook his first true Bow River Bullet, that wrapped him around a rock and broke him off. 1 trip to a small creek with fish all day, biggest at 26.5" and lots of fish on dries, including our first targeting of specific risers and first "match the hatch". 1 Bullshooters Breakfast, followed by trip to the rides as Stampede with the kids afterwards. Not sure if rides with kids after 3 screwdrivers is wise for a 47 yr old. Actually, I'm quite sure it isn't wise. 2 trips to the rodeo just above the chutes, and 1 chuckwagon race (through work, and yes, I do work). 1 Company Golf Tournament, which my team won (shot -9, should have been -12). Killed the ball off the tee!! Evening drinks on the driveway with neighbors. 1 Gretchen Wilson, Big and Rich concert, with requisite consumption of alcohol. Yahoo!! I love this town.
  8. Hey Clive, Not very often I get to converse with a fly fishing legend! The digital delay is the fastest I have ever dealt with in a digital camera. I did have good seats at the rodeo, and could somewhat anticipate the shot and "lead" it, but it was a pleasure compared to my old Fuji. I certainly did not get every shot, but neither do I with a SLR. If you take the time to allow the camera to focus (with the button slightly held down), the picture is pretty instantaneous. If you just hit the button, I would say around .2 to .5 of digital delay, most of that is focusing? From cold start up to picture is about 2 seconds.
  9. Wife is ok with it. She didn't even lecture me after hearing me tell the story and berate myself. Mother-in-law is in town. She wants a tether!
  10. It has a 3X optical zoom. My mistake. I will edit the original review as well. I just saw it also has a 10X digital zoom in playback mode.
  11. Excellent Birchy! Teach those BC boys how its done!
  12. Hey Steven, You are certainly correct on the Jackie angle. I wasn't even going to tell her, but since I lost my regular glasses in the swim, I figured I had to come clean. Thanks for the comments! Shoot me a PM if you are ever available to get out.
  13. Got the new camera today. Here are some observations: Bought directly from Olympus via eBay. Camera is a return, fully QCd, fully warrantied. Purchased on Tuesday, received Friday (!) from Olympus in California. Paid GST, no duty. $6.00 shipping. Because of the camera being waterproof, there are a few issues: Only 3X optical zoom (no moving lens parts outside the camera because of difficulty in sealing) No viewfinder, screen only. (doesn't seem to be an issue though) No standard batteries. Rechargable battery pack. Not sure of charge time. That's it for problems, here is the good stuff From off to picture, very fast. Like 3 seconds? Maybe less. Very little latency. See rodeo pics below. Multiple underwater modes. Have not used, but Underwater macro may be interesting to try. Rapid fire mode. Very useful when trying underwater shots. I used the screen with polarized sunglasses, no problems. I was under cover at rodeo. Menu items make sense, very easy to use. So far, thrilled. Can't wait to try underwater. I have already dunked it pretty good (see the I am stupid post) with no issues. Unfortunately, I am living the new camera jinyx. Didn't catch any today for the first time in awhile. My son did hook a big bow, but got hung up and broke off. 1st pic is him coming to shore to chase. The rest are from Rodeo today What a weenie. Can you believe he couldn't ride this bull?
  14. I will use caution when wading in rivers I will not let me "familiarity" with non-flowing water influence my decision making in flowing water I will remember that my first responsibility is as a father, not a fishing partner. And the worst part was, super simple place to cross 100 yds down river.
  15. Went fishing this morning with my son. We were in a back channel below Calgary. I was wading wet, but my son insisted on wearing my waders. We decided to cross the channel, and the max depth was like thigh high on me. It was tough, but doable for a 6 foot 2 inch 195 lb man. Not so doable for a 5 5 125 lb 14 yr old, without wading belt in his fathers breathables. As he was swept down the river and I was swimming after him, we both kept our cool and I got him back to shore pretty quickly. He was slightly shook, but made a comment on how we ruined the run and went down river in search of the next run, after pulling off the waders. I got to sit in contemplation of how stupid I am and how I could have killed my son. No wading belt? Are yoiu kidding? It was in my vest and I had not maed him put it on. Please everyone, try to exhibit more common sense than I did. I've learned my lesson as it literally scared me to tears. That is one big mean river we live next to. Treat it with respect.
  16. Worst hooking of myself: #14 Prince right in the lip. Wanted to feel like the trout. Found out it hurts, even without barb! Worst owee: Fly stuck in tree, to far up to get. I have 8# to the front #4 SJW with 6# to whatever was trailing. I pull down with my hand on the line, the trailing line snaps, and the SJW hits me in the knuckle at supersonic velocity. Now that REALLY hurt! I remember thinking "what if the hook would have hit first?"
  17. Hey Howard, Awesome. Wish I could get out for a full day during the week, 'specially during Stampede. Great pics, great report, sounds like a memory of a lifetime.
  18. Don't know how to link in a video yet, but click on the link! The cameraman is a true friend in this one! http://www.outdoorlife.com/outdoor/photoga...1533190,00.html
  19. Gee, thanks for alerting me to that possibility Brent. I thought I had basically come up with all the possible ways to break a camera. Apparently not! Sorry bud. Hope you get a nice new one. I'm sure you have oodles of cash lying around. I know I did when I was in University!
  20. Hah, I could say something provacotive (sp?) like: "I have a fetish for lots of big things" But that might take this post in a direction I am not comfortable with. And some could possibly see it as me stealing Birchy's post about his aching teeth and focusing it on his big hands. Or whatever. So I won't say it.
  21. Flyangler, I don't think 'ole Birchy's body has that many contours. Any interesting ones anyway!
  22. Hey lynn, What do you mean by hosted? There was a guy at liv who came around in the evening for firewood. I thought they did all four site as they are managed by the same group. Just curious.
  23. I had two impacted ones as well. Pulled one at a time. I did not consider golf when those were pulled!
  24. From what i understand the major improvement btwn the 720 and the 770 is the screen. But now that you mention it i didnt look at the screen with my sunglasses. Oops.
