  1. Hawgstoppah, What do you mean by protect the tippet?
  2. Funny. Just so you know, a sub is a boat. Just a HEAVILY armed one that hides under water, makes absolutely no noise, and can shoot a high explosives tipped torpedo at one of those surface "boats" from 10 miles away, hide under the thermal layer, and wait to shoot another one. Surface ship goes boom! Here is a little tidbit of info for you: Modern torpedo's (and by modern I mean the ones we used 20 yrs ago. I'm sure they are even more dangerous now) are not contact weapons. They are loaded with very high energy explosives. Interestingly enough, the same type of explosives used in oilfield perforating. What they do is come up from directly below the target and detonates just before contact. I don't remember exactly how far away, like 10 ft. What happens then the ship surges upwards from the blast wave while at the same time all the water around the torpedo has been vaporized. So when the boat comes down, there is water on the bow, water on the stern, and a big hole in the middle. Breaks the spine of the ship and down she goes. Fast. Like a minute. One torpedo and bye bye 600 ft cruiser. Takes a few more to down a carrier because they are so big and compartmentalized. And I had a nuclear reactor to play with too. Just how cool is that! When we going fishing Chris??
  3. I'm sure she would go for a bigger rod, but smaller? My bet is no.
  4. they encourage it. I'm a bit too timid when sober. Go for it Cdock!
  5. Did you just say jeepers??? Gee willikers!
  6. Yeah, gotta love the traffic and $25.00 per day parking. We get 1/2 a day. I still have to be here as my daughter is in the parade. Proud dad stuff to do!
  7. I figure I could get together with DBT and come up with some type of deterrence, not of the mutually assured variety. I was thinking I could get DBT to throw a rock at them with some sort of tracking device attached. When he hits them between the eyes, the tracking device sticks. Wait a couple of hours (we want them in the car on the way home, wouldn't want to hurt the stream) and unleash the tomahawk. It would probably take some fine tuning to avoid major collateral damage, but there are lots of poachers, so lots of opportunity to practice. Maybe everyone could just call me instead of RAP? I would recommend vacating the area after you call!
  8. Esleech, Sweet hit on ole Howard Dean. How one scream ended a presidential campaign! Could you imagine his finger on the button? No wonder Americans make you nervous.
  9. Are you implying that my numerous, numerous posts are not chock full of quality. If that is true, I may need to rethink this.. Ah screw it. Quantity it is!
  10. With a lot of boron! Really, it is an electronic source. We don't turn it on until 60 meters.
  11. You betcha. And minitrons with an even higher density neutron output. I also sell explosives. And Potassium Bromide cutters (not really, but I like to say Potassium Bromide. Makes me feel smart). I am one freakin' dangerous dude! I hope I catch some poachers one day.
  12. Again, I gotta reiterate the submarine thing. Being a bitch isn't really all that new to me! Sometimes the man.....(Really, Really just kidding)
  13. Bob, you are on Fire! But making fun of Americans is a dangerous game my friend. Did I mention my background is in Submarines? We were trained to say "we have the capability to carry nuclear weapons." I still know people....
  14. Absolutely! I may wait for some muddy water so you can show me where the big browns hang out. I'm rigging up a portable Tim Horton's shop as we speak!
  15. I am in the lead and going to bed. I officially declare myself postwhore for the day. Watch your back SJW!!! I have no shame, type really fast, and don't let my utter lack of knowledge limit me from exprssing my opinion. I am the perfect American! Happy 4th of July all! Hope we don't have to blow you up!
  16. Guys, I have a new 'toon as well and am looking for someone to float with. If you are interested, the 18 or 19th could work for me, I think.
  17. Hey Glen, When you shipped my order, I think you made a mistake. You put the flies in a Pleuger box. Next time, please forget the flies and send me the Pleuger!
  18. SJW, Didn't you just get into dirt bikes? I used to ride back in my late teens and early twenties when I had no money. You my friend are in deep, deep trouble! You think fishing is expensive? I shudder to think how much dirt bikes would cost me today. My son brings up the topic now and then and I say no VERY fast! Hey, I just hijacked my own post! Is that a first? So to tie it all together:Dave, you need funds for the dirt bike habit and have lots of fishing gear. I have some money and am in need of a 3 wt. when the wind doesn't blow (BBB, I have experienced the wind in the Crowsnest Pass. Unreal). Seems like a perfect match!
  19. Hey there now Bob. I may not be much of a fisherman, but I am an expert spot hitter! Also, after reading my post again, I don't want it to sound like I am disrespecting fishing salt with rod and reel, or rod and reel fishing in general. I still absolutely love it as well as I like to catch fish, whatever the method. Fly fishing is really new and shiny to me and has my complete attention for now, and probably for a LONG time to come...
  20. I have started to fish some of the smaller rivers/creeks. To date the Crowsnest and Livingstone and I have my eye on some of the smaller tribs for the summer. So far, the smallest rod I have is a 5 wt TFO. If I am getting in to the smaller streams, how important is a 3 wt? I do have some other purchases to make this summer, including a new camera, and quite frankly the wife is getting a bit fed up with the fly fishing endless spending binge. Calls me a crack addict. Not far from the truth I guess. I have at least 6 trips planned into SW Alberta this summer. Can I get by with the 5, or am I really missing something? Anyone got a cheap 3 wt to sell??
  21. Right now, I'm still pretty new at this and have not landed that many big fish, none over 22", and have never landed one that made it more than 30' or so into the river. So when I loose a big one, I feel it very deep inside. I think I put up a post last week that told of the absolute horror I felt when a big brown was rocketing out into the river and I see my fly line wrapping around the back of the reel. Horror describes the feeling quite accurately. That being said, in line with Hawgstoppah, that's exactly why I do this. If there was not the exhiliration, excitement, and sometimes utter disappointment what would be the point? When you do land one, it is just a fantastic feeling. The dissapointment of loosing the big one in no way outweighs the exhiliration of fighting him. This thread, to me, highlights the biggest difference between the saltwater/rod and reel fishing I did and this. In saltwater, I mostly blind casted and because of that did not have any emotional (that is not exactly the right word, but bear with me) investment in any particular cast. In fishing the river, many of your casts you just know are right in the slot. When a fish hits, you get the satisfaction of the strike, just like Bob was talking about. I take it as a win. Many things went right: I hit what I was casting at, was totally prepared for the strike, used the right presentation and was rewarded with a hook up, however short. Fighting him is great and catching him tops it off, but neither is a requirement. I do like it when I get a really good look at him and to see what exactly he took if I am nymphng. Whatever the case, I know what I am doing is correct and will continue to do so. In saltwater, I think I get more frustrated when I miss a fish or when I loose him during the fight because I did not get the satisfaction of hitting the spot. Missing one in saltwater is a loss. Hope that made sense. Great thread!
  22. Really exciting! We would sometimes catch Snapping Turtles in Lousiana. The only thing I have ever been afraid to take the hook out of. Think missing finger. My brother, however, is insane so I let him do it! Ole nine fingers we call him now!!
  23. Just a great story. Wish we had met up. Don't think I could have missed you guys!
  24. Watch it there SJW. Both of those activities can lead to a need for a smoke particularly when mixed. (As they always are)
  25. I have Sirius as well, and love it like everyone else. Can you say ESPN? Basketball, Football, and if you must, Hockey. Great music, talk radio, etc. Since it is from the States, makes me feel a bit at home. I have a home adapter kit as well, but don't use it much. My only advice is to not get the basic units, especially if you plan on moving them around a lot. The power connection is not that strong. I have broken a couple of them.
