  1. youtube has some stuff...including Kelly Galloup tying a Zoo Cougar...Brent, I'll be in to get supplies for the ZC real soon!! Zoo Cougar (not really a beginners' tie, but interesting to watch): Fishing it on the Madison: Decent Deer Hair spinning demo: Don't mean to hijack the thread or anything.....but I'm sure sorry that I missed Kelly at the Fly Fishing Expo this year...I don't think he was talking streamers though...did anybody see him?
  2. Last semester of a Geology degree with concentration in Petroleum Geology.....have a Geophysics 559 MT next week, 10 page paper + 15min presentation the week after reading week. Plus quizzes and critical review due every week, labs in every class and a Petroleum Engineering class for non majors MT week after reading week(a geologist in an engineering course is like a bait chucker in a fly shop) compsci 217...but I don't care, last semester and it's snowing in the mountains, so I'm going skiing....I've got a degree already and have been in the workforce, school is a pretty sweet deal....you don't realize how much free time you actually have until you go to work 5 days a week. Then you have kids and you wonder....how did we waste that much time in our undergrad degrees? Drinking did take up a lot of that time....so did Playstation and Tony Hawk Pro Skater!! Oh and I agree Brent, Calc II is waaaay easier than Calc I
  3. I am planning on getting a double-haul....Wholesale has them as does fishtales if you want to check them out...I would like to hear more reviews myself!
  4. I joined their newsletter this past weekend and was entered into their contest and actually won the last Sharkskin line they were giving away....can't wait for the line to get here....and I will be going to the show too!! Have Vol. 1 Patagonia and love it....so remote and the colors on some of those fish are unreal!!!
  5. Fleury was a jerk on and off the ice...not even close to my criteria...I'm sayin' Gretz...and I like Crosby he's more than just a goal scorer, he sees the game like very few can. That list does have a lot of great, legendary players so it's hard to pick. Hemsky is a talented player, but I think he needs more time to mature, IMO he 'hogs' the puck a lot when he should be dishing it. So what can I say, I'm an Oil fan and Gretz is the reason for it. Oh, why isn't Sean Avery on the list? ha ha
  6. Well Wes, sounds like your sister should switch over to your insurance company. They're not all the same, just like Taco found out...and you don't usually find out until you have a problem. My mom is an insurance agent and she speculated about the reason for the company only paying the first $50....she is just a broker, not working for a specific company like Economical, AVIVA, etc. and told me there are some companies that will do anything to get out of a claim. So shop around, get the best price but make sure you are clear on what the coverage includes. If you have any questions, you can ask me and I'll ask her, she'll answer to the best of her knowledge (20+ years so far).
  7. This isn't really the fault of the insurance companies...it's the fault of the mechanics gouging labor rates....It's like going to the dentist and they will only pay a certain amount according to the average cost for say fillings....they will pay the average rate (which is always less than the dentist's price) and you end up paying the difference... So, I guess it's either your sister finds a shop with $50/hr labor rates (maybe out of town) or everyone's premiums will go up to cover $80/hr labor rates. Just like if people falsify claims, then premiums go up to cover higher claim counts due to people making fraudulent claims. I'm not defending the insurance companies, it's just how it works. If it's no where in the small print of your sister's policy then she should fight it.
  8. If it was a clean hit, sure ok....good check...but why would you want a dirtly spineless act as your avatar? Guess maybe you can add this one to "You know you're a Flames fan when:"
  9. I was in a store today and they had a fly fishing show on (the one with the guy that kinda looks like the Crocodile hunter) and he was fishing a mouse pulled across the top of the water....reminded me of bass fishing, but he got bullies of all sized in slow water and in faster water....I guess I'd better learn to spin deer hair a bit better!!
  10. So are mice generally fished in the top couple of feet of water? I know that some big bullies would like the looks of that guy Brent...
  11. I'll put another vote in for the value you get with the Pflueger Trion
  12. Maybe a good sign that the Crow is starting to hold larger fish...would that be an indicator of the overall "health" of the river? Also crazy he was hanging out in a shallow riffle expending energy...must've been something worthwhile in the currents.
  13. I would watch the Oilers play hard and lose anyday, I just like the style they play better than the Flames. 10-1 in shootouts this year...crazy...Ithourougly enjoyed the Oil-Nucks game on Sat.
  14. The service industry is seeing a downturn for 2 reasons....companies are drilling fewer, less risky, more productive wells. Production is going up, just fewer wells being drilled = less demand in the service industry. #2 The Industry is seeing a bit of a lull right now while infrastructure catches up.
  15. This is why I like fishing in the fall more and more every year...people are done their vacations....generally more precip... Let's face is SRD isn't going to be able to make any decisions without shitting in someones cornflakes. It's unfortunate about ruining people's vacations, but let's face it...if a fire was to start....it's possible no one would be vacationing there for a long time, or at least they wouldn't have a lick of shade...save for some toothpicks left standing. It's not a horrible thing to have some pressure released from this area...
  16. Heard on the news today they're advising caution in Fish Creek as a cougar was sighted in the west end of the park. F&W were called in to trap it. Old timers tell me that most people have probably been stalked by cougars, they just didn't know it.....scary. I wonder what's with all the activity lately, don't berries usually mean that bears are too interested in eating them than paying attention to us? I've heard of people picking huckleberrys at Castle Mountain Resort at the same time 5 black bears were gorging themselves. Guess it depends whether or not the bear sees you as a threat, but I would doubt this time of year a human would be attacked as a food source.
  17. Aren't there still large garbage bins just outside the campgrounds on the Northwest branch and Dutch?
  18. Figured that was coming...so here: Reason #1 TO move out east: Inflation isn't 3 times the national average. Anyway, I'm not getting into a West versus East thing here, I never said I hated the East, I just can't think of many reasons (save for above) to leave the West. Sorry to say it friend, but there are a lot more Easterners moving out this way than are going the other way.
  19. Photochromic means the lens has silver nitride in it, which react to the presence of UV rays and will darken with increasing amounts. Polarized basically consists of a series of parallel lines (vertical in the case of sunglasses) that filter out glare based on a part of the Beer-Lambert Law which basically states that light rays become somewhat polarized horizontally when hitting a reflective surface. In other words, put your hand in front of your face with your fingers extending vertically upward, now take your other hand and put it horizontal and try to pass it through your vertically extended fingers, this would represent glare. Now turn the horizontal hand vertically and pass it in between your fingers, this represents the original light minus the glare. Light vibrates in all directions at once, but by filtering out the glare, you can see the actual light. Hope this makes some sense.
  20. Reason #2543 that I won't ever move out east.
  21. Did you try socks AND the neoprene? I think that's my favorite so far...not as squishy and I don't notice any discomfort, anyway it's a personal preference anyway. Do you like the Cloudveil's??
  22. I guess I am spoiled because there is no way in hell I would be fishing there.
  23. I used to be an old pair of hiking boots and socks kinda guy, but now I use my Simms wading boots and I wear a neoprene bootie that I fold back down over the boot top to cover the laces. I hate my line getting caught up in my laces when I'm stripping it in, so I like that setup, I'll usually wear a set of hiking socks or sometimes just my bare foot inside the bootie, which is quite comfortable and the neoprene acts like a wetsuit and keeps my feet warm even on the coldest streams.
  24. Fished the Elbow for the first time last friday, got my first little Brookie swinging a EHC at the end of a drift...must have ducked under for a second or something, but my best luck was swinging a black wooly bugger...I had all sorts of little guys trying to hit it right as the line was directly downstream of me and I was giving those three little strips....I did see one "fish back" that looked like it could've been a nice 12-14", but of course, that was just before I had to leave to pick up my wife....My guess is that those guys were thinking the bugger was a stonefly nymph making it's way to the surface and shore? I was thinking I should've clipped the tail off to make a wooly worm and see if that got more attention. That's my best guess, any other opinions would be welcome. I'm new to 'swinging' myself, so this is all good info.
