pisces Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I found a pontoon craft out of the UK and thought of doing one out of cedar-strip . The chair is just to give you an idea I plan on one of those fold down from Can.-tire . Think it will Float ? Quote
agbff Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Thats really sick! Where did you find plans if you dont mind me asking? Quote
pisces Posted March 31, 2009 Author Posted March 31, 2009 Just trial and error out of my head and I had a book from brother inlaw who just built a cedar canoe . Really! No Plan's . Quote
agbff Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Haha of course man, thats a really cool project. I was looking into building a boat as something to do... but ill walk and fish instead! Post when its done man! Quote
Brunsie Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Nice looking 'toons. they will look great when clear coated. If you're going to use it on the river, a layer or two of fiberglass would be a good idea. Quote
Pipestoneflyguy Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 That looks awesome - I vote you keep the chair though Quote
Tungsten Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I really like the design of the toons ,should cut threw the water like a knife. Is there oars in the plan or just kicking? Quote
Golfman09 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 That needs a recliner on top.....kick back and enjoy a little float... Quote
SteveM Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Cool idea, Pisces. Gonna be tough to inflate, tho'! Seriously, it'll be unique. Keep us posted on your final product. Quote
Castuserraticus Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I have plans and a prototype built of a wooden pontoon using tortured plywood rather than strip. The construction got somewhat stalled due to my skill level. I like the hardshell because everything can fit inside the hull so less wind resistance and stuff to catch the line on. Maybe this spring I can finally finish it. The biggest problem was developing a releasable system for the pontoons so the boat could be broken down for transport. Pisces - the flat hull design may be problematic for maneuverability but it should track well - good for trolling but not so good for moving water. Quote
Saltamontes Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 That looks awesome, Just one question though, I didn't see any valves to inflate the toons. Quote
hydropsyche Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Cool, but does it come with bilge pumps? They may start out totally waterproof, but eventually..... Quote
theiceman2 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Are you building that in the basemnet? If so your wife is alot cooler then mine Quote
Slyangler Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 That looks well made Pisces, I would imagine you've spent a few hours working on that project? Should look really nice once its stained and finished. Hope it gives you many years of pleasure! Quote
