  1. I recently obtained a rolltop desk for my fly tying. I use a Danvise with a C clamp. Does anyone know of a fly shop in Calgary that might carry the base / pedestal for this vise? I want to get away from the C-clamp to avoid damaging the desk. Perhaps there is out there a base for another brand of vise that might work.
  2. Janice, the office secretary goes in the lunchroom to get herself a cup of coffee. As she is pouring it, Joe a co-worker says: "Janice, your hair smells wonderful", fuming, Janice marches into the Boss's office to report what just occurred, insisting she feels she has been sexually harrased. The boss listens to her story and calmly explains he is very familiar with the company's sexual harrassment policy and he feels Joe the co-worker, was simply paying her a compliment adding that she is overreacting and overly sensitive. Janice replies: "I am not being overly sensitive and I am certainly not overreacting, I fully understand when someone is paying me a compliment, but this is a completely different case as Joe is a midget"
  3. The wife and I move into our brand spanking new house next week. We had the fireplace roughed in (natural gas) and we hope to get it going within not too long. What should I be looking for? any particular brand I should go with? what's the difference between them, are some models more efficient and expensive for being so? what about prices of these things, how much should I expect to pay for a good unit? is there deals to be had out there?
  4. I tried ordering something from them about a year ago and at that time they did not ship to Canada. They change the stuff for sale every one or two days, and the sizes they have are very limited. If the stuff they advertise id your size great, now if they now ship to Canada that would be great.
  5. We are building a house, with posession date being sometime this winter, as a result I will be doing some yard work next spring. I have never seeded a yard, went the easy way in the past with sod and it was alright, substantially more expensive than seeding, but then again I had the instant lawn. What are your thoughts on seeding? is it worth the savings? how about soil preparation, what is required other than levelling it?
  6. got my answer, they cannot get them
  7. I have a few gift cards for Bass Pro and there is one item I am after which I know they do not stock, they do however carry some products from this brand (Simms). Does anyone know if they will special order something for you? I am looking for the Simms Flats Boots, they do not carry them, but they do carry some other Simms products. The gift cards should amount to close to the price of these boots and while I know I can get the boots at a fly shop in Calgary, I would rather use up the gift cards and get rid of them at once. I tried looking for an e-mail address for them and did not find one.
  8. any idea of how much this toy would cost?
  9. Fegus, I will also be looking for a battery for my electric motor and I am interested in what you said about the wheelchair battery. How do they compare in price with a deep cycle battery, also are these readily available or do they come from a specialty shop? what about the charger? will a regular battery charger work on these?
  10. I know the feeling, Phil is proven almost impossible to get a hook on. I have seen people cast to him for hours and have yet ot see him caught. J - LO is just impossible to catch, she rises in the same spot night after night, one of these days I'll get to the other bank and I should get a shot at her. BTW, Phil was named that after watching a fishing buddy cast to him for over 1 1/2 hours one day and then another hour the next, I told my buddy, another 5 mins of that and we'd have to take you to Dr. Phil for some counselling. J - LO is got her name due to where she rises and how hard it is to get to her, I figure I have as much of a chance of getting my hands on J - LO as I do of getting my hands on that fish, thus her name.
  11. So the world cup is about to begin, and as a true fan of the game I intend to watch every single game of the entire tournament. Of course due to work and other reasons, I will not be able to watch the games live. I have a DVD player / recorder with a hard drive (enough to record many games) I just realized however, that for whatever reason CBC does not come up on the list of stations I can record (it is the ONLY station that is not listed). Would anyone here know why this is? as it stands right now, my only option is to record the games in french, the french station will be carrying the entire worldcup as well. Thanks for any input
  12. I have a belly boat, two pontoon boats (both of them purchased used) and a dinghy type boat for 3 people. Don't get the wrong message here, financially I am far from being well off (live in a townhouse with no garage) my go to pontoon stays inflated in a garden shed in the 20 x 15 ft backyard I have, and yes I do have a truck to haul it around with. My suggestion is to wait for the right (used) boat at the right price. I have always thought that going cheap in the long run will end up costing more. A top end pontoon will last forever (1 of mine is 20 plus years old and still going strong). Yes they are pricey, but buying a "disposable" boat might be something you might regret as they are not as sturdy and safety is a must. Cheap boats are cheaply made, with cheap materials, cheap labor etc. The last thing you want is to hear is a weld cracking while in the middle of a lake or floating a river. I have no regrets with my purchases, they were not cheap, but I know I bought what felt was the right thing for me, as I feel safe with any of my boats If you must have a pontoon for a trip, rent or borrow until you find something you can afford that will suit your needs. Belly boats do have their place, for myself however I have not used mine in over 6 years, if I ever need one, it is sitting there waiting for its time to shine. Oh yeah, I am contemplating buying another boat, one with a standing platform, but we'll have to see how that goes.
  13. Yeap, happy birhtday Tallieho. Just met him yesterday at Beaver, nice guy.
  14. Thank you all for your informative comments. I think I have a better understanding of the issue. I will shop carefully and find something that will fit my needs and budget.
  15. I am contemplating investing in an inflatable boat for 2 - 3 people, to be used for fishing mailnly. The unit I'm looking at would definitely suit my needs, as it is big enough and would have the characteristics I am looking for. It comes with oars, but I would really like to have a motor to go with it. The boat is 10 ft long, and they say the maximum motor it can take is a 10 hp motor, this to me is foreign as I know absolutely nothing about this matter. I tried looking it up but did not get anywhere, I read terminology that makes it even more confusing, such as thrust, etc. Can someone enlighten me? looking up online I see lots of Minnkota (sp) and other brands, yet none of them say anything about Hp, just thrust. I believe all of these operate on a 12v battery (motorcycle, right ?). Is it reasonable for me to expect to have enough of a charge to float around a lake for a day or an afternoon without worrying about running the battery dead at the far end of the lake? the more hp, the more battery it will use, correct? how does thrust relate to hp? . I see Cabela's and other dealers offer what I think would be an OK motor for this boat for about $100. Am I on the right track? Lots of questions here, hopefully someone can assist.
  16. My Patagonia breathable waders have a leak, how do I pinpoint where this leak is? any tips, tricks?
  17. Hey guys, a while back through a board member of this site I ordered some Scierra waist high waders. I have put them to use regularly over the past while and I love them, they fit nicely and keep me dry, they are tough and also look pretty good. I have worn them probably 20 times by now and I am very pleased with them. Yesterday however I waded a bit deeper than the usual, just below the waist and noticed the pockets filled up with water. At first I thought the zipper might not have been fully zipped and figured I would try them again before panicking. Today I headed out again and made sure the zippers were fully zipped (closed) before I went in the water, sure thing, when I came out of the water both pockets had each about a cup of water in them. Please don't get me wrong, I still like the waders and I'm thinking of somehow sealing the pockets permanently to keep the water from filling up with water. I just seems kind of a waste to have pockets if they are not water tight. Yesterday I had put a pack of smokes in the pockets, needles to say, no smoking for me when I came out of the water. Today I played it safe and kept them in my vest. Has anyone else experienced similar issues with these Scierra waders?
  18. That is indeed pretty impressive. Not that I'd ever venture attempting to tie anything like that, but the wing material he uses looks awesome, and if available it could be used for the the stuff we average Joes tie. Any idea what it is called?
  19. Are all Simms boots models available with the vibram sole or is it just some of them?
  20. Some guys have incredible puck/stick control, but when they face a game situation, they fall apart. Look at Robbie Schremp, incredible hands, great showmanship, outstanding skills, but when it came to cracking the lineup, he just couldn't do it. I hope this kid can do all these things and be a force on the ice during a real game, if he is able to, then he could be the real thing.
  21. Glad to see you guys are having fun in "the ol' country", plenty of good stuff to see and enjoy. I might just have to plan a trip down there one of these days. Too much family to visit though, countless uncles aunts and cousins, you name it, if I were to visit them all I'd need a full year. I'd love to go for 3 months, visit the family for 10 days then go get lost in the Coyaique and Aysen areas for a couple of months until my arm falls off from casting. Mom was from the south, around the Osorno area, and she used to tell me about a brother of hers taking some "gringo" clients (he was an investor) for some fishing action on my other uncle's land (he was a huge farmer, had 3 massive farms) and the fishing was simply incredible. He fished the Rahue, the Simpson and the Baker and a few other rivers long before they became well known for being a great fishery. Oh well, maybe some day....... Take care and have a safe trip home, Alvaro Oh yeah, I forgot, a Escudo will do me just fine (kidding)
  22. yeap, seen that video a few times now, pretty amazing.
