Lawrence Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 So I think that the pools and rapids that are going to be constructed from the weir should be called just that. Its going to cost around 11 million Quote
SanJuanWorm Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 They spend that much in water rescues every summer alone on the weir. Quote
birchy Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Is it common knowledge WHY they're taking out the weir? Cause I have no idea... Can someone enlighten me? Quote

Taco Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 weir - aka the drowning machine. The up side?.......................... it only seems to get the stupid Quote
gravelman Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Does anyone think this might be bad for the fisheries by allowing more fish to head further upstream and spread out. Less spawning in rivers like the sheep and highwood. I guess they cant go much further then the bearspaw or the glenmore res anyways. Maybe this might be better Quote
toolman Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 I don't think it will change any of the spawning behaviors of the trout, as they usually return to the same general area's and streams to spawn. Naturally, flooding and varying water levels from year to year, dictate exact spawning sites where conditions are optimum. I don't see any downside to this project. Quote
ham Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Interesting... I'd be suprised if more fish moved upstream after that. But you never know. Quote
BlueNorther Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Fish have always been able to go around the weir, there's a fish ladder on the east side of the weir. Quote
Nick0Danger Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 It will be good for fishing, just think bring the drift boat to work, and after work place go for a 4 hour downtown to glen more float. Good for whitewater guys cause they are makeing an area for them. good for recreational drifts they wont drown and they can float from other areas spreading them out a bit. Its all good. Quote
reevesr1 Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 I imagine that the lower bow is somewhere near it's carrying capacity now. If some fish move upstream and there is no major change in the river itself, there is no reason to believe that the lower bow would not return back to it's carrying capacity fairly rapidly. I may be wrong about the number of fish the bow can carry, but it's hard to imagine it would be more than th 3000/km or whatever it is now. Quote
Nick0Danger Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 There are some rivers in the states that double that about RickR, however our average fish size is a fair size bigger Quote
