lorney Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with Orvis rods. I have a brand new 8 wt that I fished twice when the whole cork grip pulled off the rod. I just sent it in 3 weeks ago and now the back end of the reel seat pulled off my 5 wt. I am not hard on equipment and always put my rods back in the tubes when finished fishing. It seems that the glue they use is just letting go. Anyone else having problems? Any experience with their warranty? I have not heard anything from them yet on the first rod sent in. I use my 5 wt TFO TiCr almost exclusively for the last 2 years and have yet to have a problem with it. I pulled out my 5wt Orvis to use once while I lent out my TFO and it comes apart. Go figure. Of course the rod that is easiest to replace never breaks. Quote
bcubed Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 you timed rod repairs as badly as you possibly could (extremely heavy season)..orvis is running around 6-8 weeks, if not higher, on repairs at the moment. Quote
Din Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 had one where the cork split in half after ~1.5 yrs. then have been through 4 others in the last three.....all by fishermans error...never had a problem with warranty, but takes a while as bcube says. Quote
SanJuanWorm Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I have an orvis rod that is 10 years old and the only problem i've had with it is Max stepped on it and broke it. They replaced it. Very nice rods. Quote
lorney Posted September 24, 2008 Author Posted September 24, 2008 Thanks for the reply guys. Glad to hear you have had good experiences with warranty. Quote
dutchie Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Thanks for the reply guys. Glad to hear you have had good experiences with warranty. orvis , has good warranty , but when you pay that kind of money for a rod it should last you , look at the time your without your rod , it's a pain in the ass having to ship a rod back to them , they want as much $ for a good orvis rod today as a thomas & thomas rod or a winston and even a sage , now you go back a few years ago and they made good rods , i'm into bamboo rods that i fish and collect and the older orvis bamboo rods were really great rods , the new ones they make IMHO are just junk , you can see the glue lines , and for $2000 it should be a heck of a piece of workmanship , Quote
PeteZahut Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 My wife and I have been using the same Orvis rods since we started ~5 years ago and have not had one issue to date. Quote
beedhead Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I have had no problem to date with Orvis, and had good luck with warranty, I sent rods in twice this spring and had them back in less than 3 weeks...But like anything these days...They just dont build things like they used to... Cheers...Jeff.. Quote
LynnF Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I just picked up my brand new rod from CP the other day. Had it back in for a second time to repair a broken tip and rather than give me a new piece for a second time, they gave me a whole new rod. Fantastic product and warranty - two thumbs up from me. orvisonly Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 It is not surprising that Orvis (and other higher end rods) are expensive. You only need read this thread to understand why. Heavy streamers and a general lack of care have resulted in these companies replacing more rods than they ever used to. I do not understand why they offer the warranty they do. Imagine what our roads would be like if you could send your car for free repairs as a result of your careless driving. Quote
