44" 30+ Lbs

My brother caught this a couple weeks back.....

Secret river in NB....starts with an M... Quick measured at 44" and the guide estimated 30lbs+.

The camp rule is not to fight a fish longer than 18 mins. Where they got 18 mins i don't know. With a little pleading he fought it for about 25 mins (guide said the water was cold and the fish did rest a bit)....on 8lb test!

Fish was released strong.

I don't want to kill your post, because it's a beautiful looking fish. But come on, 44"....here's a fish from October 2007. About a 14lb fall fish out of the Margaree River. I think the fix was in and your buddy's guide was looking for a nice tip. I'd say your buddy's fish would probably be a 15 lb fish. If it was a 30lb Atlantic Salmon, you would be able to tell. I have some pics of some monsters that we have gotten out of the Margaree and West rivers over the years. I'll try and post them to give you some idea of a "big" fish...but heck, your buddy's fish is a nice fish none the less!! Cheers

I would have to agree with drewflyfish.....pretty tough to wrap your hand around the wrist of a 30# fish.

But definitely a nice fish. Wonder where the 18 minutes came from? And what are you supposed to do when your 18 minutes are up?

Leave the fly in the fish's mouth?

Nice fish, I would like to catch an atlantic one day. I think the guide was a little off saying 44" and 30 pounds - Ive caught 30 pound chinook salmon that look twice that size ... but who knows the pic might not do it justice. Thanks for sharing it with us.
