murray Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 I had the misfortune to lose my Hardy Uniqua 7' 6" 3 wt rod and reel in the upper Old Man yesterday after taking an ill advised dunking while crossing the river. Would appreciate any word on anyone finding it. Also lost a couple of fly boxes but they are of little concern. Thanks for your help. Murray Quote
fishinglibin Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 That sucks big time. Glad you are okay, and hope the gear shows up. 1 Quote
trailhead Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 If you go back when the water levels go down you might get it back. Happened to me on the Oldman. 1 Quote
bigalcal Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 When you say "Upper" is that up the Oldman Rd,,west of the FTR? Kilometre?.... Quote
murray Posted June 21, 2017 Author Posted June 21, 2017 When you say "Upper" is that up the Oldman Rd,,west of the FTR? Kilometre?.... Yes, upstream of the FTR. Quote
murray Posted June 21, 2017 Author Posted June 21, 2017 Boy, that is real hard to say, roughly 16/17 km. It's where the river bends close to. The road. I know, not a very good description but it's the best I can do. Ill make another trip soon and have a better description. Quote
bigalcal Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Ok...I think I know where you mean...I'll keep my eyes open!! 1 Quote
murray Posted June 22, 2017 Author Posted June 22, 2017 Thanks for the concern Steve, nothing damaged but my ego. I appreciate the extra eyes watching for the rod. What I can say about wading in that area is that a wading staff is not enough to keep you upright. The high flows combined with the greasy rocks simply make wading treacherous. Be very carefull out there and listen to that little voice in your head. 1 Quote
BurningChrome Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Yup, wading was a bit sketchy last weekend. I'm headed out that way tomorrow so if I make it up the Oldman I'll keep an eye out. 1 Quote
bigalcal Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 I'm not that adventurous when it comes to wading at any time of year. It comes with getting older....and wiser!! Quote
monger Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Good to hear only the ego was bruised. Some good dude will get it back to you 1 Quote
murray Posted June 24, 2017 Author Posted June 24, 2017 Rob, it is really hard to look gracefull when you are bobbing along like a strike indicator. It'll take a while but I think my ego will recover. 1 Quote
dmac111 Posted July 14, 2017 Posted July 14, 2017 You might want to check out the fly fishing section on outdoorsmenfourm.ca Someone may have possibly found your rod and reel... 2 Quote
Popular Post murray Posted July 15, 2017 Author Popular Post Posted July 15, 2017 Dmac, thanks for the Heads up. I have contacted the gentleman and it is the rod that I lost earlier. I have made arrangements to pick it up. There are a lot of really honest people in the fishing community. I am truly grateful. 10 Quote
monger Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 Such good news Murray! I knew it would happen for you 1 Quote
murray Posted July 16, 2017 Author Posted July 16, 2017 Thanks Rob, boy, does it feel good to get this rod back! It was missing for almost a month and I had pretty much given up hope of seeing it again. Brent, the gentleman that found it is such a great guy and I can't say enough about him. His sole goal was to find the owner. After he found it, he spent some time cleaning it up so when I received it yesterday, there was little to do but recognize how fortunate I am. It's got a little road rash on the reel and a bit of wear on the cork handle but other than that, it's good to go. 4 Quote
