RedBeard Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Anyone use braided line for the articulation material on streamers? Quote
SilverDoctor Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Tried it once but I found it too soft for nice hinge. Thick mono or light wire works better IMOO. 1 Quote
tika Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I have been using Fireline in #15 (light) and #30 (heavy). I find it easier to thread beads and tie-in than wire. Quote
CDone Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I've used Power-Pro and Spider Wire but now I exclusively use Beadalon wire from Micheals, Bronze in 0.38mm is my go to, 60ft spool is something like $8. Colin 1 Quote
Jayhad Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Yes, I have used it and I use it regularly depending on which pattern and how it is designed move in the water. I use a huge tangled mess of green braid I pulled out of the Bow 6-7 years ago. If I want a stiff fly I use wire. Quote
RedBeard Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 Thanks for the responses! About what lb rating is that braid jayhad? Quote

There articulation is where you get your movement from- Looping wire through the eyelet of the next shank or trailer hook provides enough "release" to generate more than enough movement. I believe Jayhad can be quoted belly aching about triple articulated dungeons folding back on themselves and beads "doing nothing." braid/backing is far too limp. perhaps this is his problem? Quote
monger Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I just use some 40lb mono with some beads...fish don't seem to mind Quote
troutlover Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 So Monger its basically the same stuff you use to make those RAD friendship bracelets you hand out to all your closest friends. Quote
monger Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Only guys who catch LOTS of steelhead get one....maybe in a few more years you will get on the list.... 2 Quote
FraserN Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I use dacron, which is essentially the same. I have tried braided line, and it works fine. As good a choice as any material for articulated streamers. Quote
