jasonvilly
Was at F3T yesterday and learnt that, TUC was accepted as 1 of 6 projects who are in the running for a $100,000 grant from the Shell Fuelling change project. Their aim is to increase flows of the Mallard side channel to stable rate by reducing sediment that has built up in the floods of 2005 and the last two high water events, hopefully increasing uitable spawning habitat. (you can read more about the goals on the website. The overall project will cost $200,000 so this would go a long way. They are currently in 5th. Here are the steps. 1. Go to http://fuellingchange.com/ 2. Register at the top right, this will instantly give you 10 votes. 3. Once you are registered select the blue water tab 4. Select the $100,000 prize amount. 5. Now you should see the Mallard point project. Additionally anytime you purchase anything from a shell store: gas, chocolate bar, pop, smokes whatever, you can go back to the website, enter your receipt number and you will get another 10 votes. Cheers!
jasonvilly
Darn it, can one of you mods move this to the fishing related topic, put it in the wrong one. I blame it on my iPhone and huge fingers.

Castuserraticus
Geologic processes will choke off the channel again faster than they imagine - the river will go where it wants. The floods create and abandon channels within a few days. Just downstream of the #24 bridge the river abandoned the main channel and cut off a shorter route in the 2005 flood. The old main channel is almost entirely abandoned in normal summer flow levels as of last year.

FraserN
Just voted. I have frequented Mallard point in my time. I even caught a small rainbow at the lower end of the channel, once. I hope they get their grant.

ironfly
Thanks for the link, but frankly I felt that some of the other causes were far more worthy. Sorry. No, I didn't vote 1700 times.
