Guest JayVee Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I'm just starting to tie my very first dries. What material are you guys using for your EHC bodies to match the local bugs? Same question for Adams I guess. Thanks guys Quote
Flytyer Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I don't tie them much any more but I used to use antron and Fine & Dry dubbing Quote
headscan Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I bought a Hareline Super Fine dubbing dispenser a couple years ago that has most of the colours you'll need for dries. My EHCs usually get mahogany or olive dubbing and there's an Adams gray as well. Third entry from the bottom of the page: http://www.hareline.com/dubbing.html Quote
FraserN Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 For up here in the Northwest, I use primarily antron dubbing. Other good choices are peacock herl or olive hares ear. Quote
Gaffer Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I recently bought a Wapsi Super Fine Dubbing Assortment from WSS like this: The colours that I tie my EHC in are light cahill, olive & mahogany. I prefer tieing dries to nymphs personally. Andrew Quote
SilverDoctor Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Hare's ear, Herl and Antron depending on what kind of caddis and time of year. Quote
CTownTBoyz Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I once tied one in hot pink.....just to prove to myself that color makes little to no difference with dry flies (in rivers). I would also use synthetic dubbing (or carpet), and no hackle......but I guess, that's not really an EHC. Quote
toolman Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I once tied one in hot pink.....just to prove to myself that color makes little to no difference with dry flies (in rivers). I would have to agree somewhat, that body color seems to be of less importance with Caddis dry's than most anglers realize. Size, profile and presentation are much more important factors. Quote
monger Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I only use Mule deer fur and fish don't even know Quote
bhurt Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 For me I use real Peacock hurl, my grandfather for years raised pheasents and had peacocks that he also raised, so in otherwords I have a ton of peacock feathers (NOT FOR SALE) I do use the sythedic peacock hurl for my leeches and it is diffently one of my tops patterns that I use all year round. I find peacock is a great attractor for the trout, but the super fine dubbing works great also. Lets us know how they work out for you. Quote
